Skyward | Ch 48 - 55
* spoilers *
This last part of the book was absolutely insane. I don't think I could have guessed this ending even if I'd used my full brain capacity. First of all, this battle had me high key stressed! I kept expecting someone to die and I would have thrown this book across the room if that happened. I can only take so much! Now that it's over I have to say I'm so proud of Skyward Flight, they survived y'all! And they saved the day!
Now onto important things. M-Bot is back and he came to Spensa's rescue! When he appeared I had the goofiest grin on my face. And he stole the show! I honestly expected worse from Ironsides when they learned of his existence. Shocked and surprised that she isn't a complete evil bitch. And the teleporting?!? I knew it was gonna be a thing that Spensa could do, but the way it was executed was *chef's kiss*.
The Krell... They're prison guards?! Are you shitting me?? Never in a million years would that have been the guess and I'm honestly amazed at Brandon Sanderson's big brain. The humans being imprisoned for starting an intergalactic war and never even knowing? It's genius! (I know the Defiant weren't part of the actual war but still)
So, I still don't fully understand what the eyes are?? Like are they the alien coalition spies or what?? And I get that Spensa is special with her tuning in to the telepathic channel or whatever, but I'm pretty sure I don't fully understand that either.
Needless to say, I cannot wait to get on with the rest of the series. This book exceeded my expectations in the best way.

Skyward | Ch 30 - 47
* spoilers *
- Rig having a crush on FM is so cute! Thank God someone is living a normal life in this book.
- What does M-Bot mean by "as to not attract the attention of the eyes"? He says some pretty weird stuff in general but this is ominous. Like does he mean someone out there in space is spying on the Defiant?? At first I thought about the Krell but they already know of them.
- Hurl is gone. At this point I've been telling myself they aren't permanent fixtures and I shouldn't get attached, but damn. There are only 5 left in Skyward Flight, technically 4 since Kimmalyn is dropping out which also hurts like hell.
- Jorgen going with Spensa to find Hurl and give her a proper burial is everything I needed from him. Finally got a little glimpse of how he actually feels and all the expectations put upon him. It's heartbreaking that he won't get to live his life the way he wants and is just expected to fall into the life his parents set out for him. Him being so uptight makes so much sense now.
- About the recording Spensa got of The Battle of Alta. Something must have happened in the minutes her dad was up there. Brainwashing or something, I don't know. I just can't believe he came back and shot down his own flightmates and others. I need to know what happened to him up there!
- Now Cobb is asking about the eyes?! WHAT THE HELL ARE THE EYES??
- Rig's note to Spensa 🥹 I'm so happy he actually discovered a passion and figured out what he wanted to do. I just know he's going to design the best starship the DDF has ever seen.
- M-Bot and Spensa going on a real flight! He really does seem advanced for a starship that's like 180 years old. Also, what's up with Chaser being able to basically guess the Krell's moves? That's not just him being a good pilot. But I cannot think of a plausible explanation. Like is he Krell? Is he some super pilot? What the hell is up with this guy? And then Spensa saw the eyes?! Is that what her dad saw at that moment of the recording or was that all Spensa??
- M-Bot deciding to power down felt like a stab to the heart. I can't believe this ship has got me this fucked up emotionally.
- A little Spensa and Jorgen moment?? I wasn't even thinking about romance, but they are cute. Nothing better happen to these two or I will riot.
- Gran-Gran's story of Spensa's heritage is wild. So they have like space communication powers or what? That's how I'm understanding it at this point.
- I knew that there was going to be a scenario where Spensa would have to eject and then get dismissed from flight school. I have been preparing myself this whole time. It's still disheartening. Like she just seemed so defeated and now she doesn't even have M-Bot to still at least fly a bit 😭

Reading Brandon Sanderson’s Skyward and I love M-bot because he’s like: “I don’t have real emotions, 😶just the vague approximation of emotions 😐but what you just said was very mean 😑and if I did have feelings 🙁they would be very hurt right now ☹️and you should apologize.😭”

Skyward | Ch 16 - 29
* spoilers *
- The ship can talk?! Y'all I fear a spaceship might be my favorite character so far.
- Rig is back! And he has a purpose now, yay! Is M-Bot going to be Spensa's ship?? I freaking hope so.
- I just want to again state that it is actually crazy to me that the DDF is willing to send barely capable students into active battle. Also Morningtide died?!? What?? Girl, I was just getting warm and fuzzy feelings about the budding friendship with Spensa. And then Bim!! He didn't even pick a callsign yet! 173 pages in and there's already 2 character deaths?!? I was not prepared for this!
- These sensor things in Spensa's helmet that supposedly scans her brain or whatever, what the hell is up with that?! And Ironsides saying she has the same defect as her dad??
- I feel like in this part I've gotten to know some of the characters more, which is dangerous cause if one of them dies now I'll be devastated. FM being this anti-government type is nice, it gives a different perspective to the Defiant. Jorgen, despite not liking Spensa atm, choosing to protect his flight and not getting Spensa kicked out and later trying to figure out if there was anything he could have done to save Morningtide and Bim in the battle. FM and Kimmalyn sneaking Spensa into their room to share food and have a girls night is so wholesome! Even Hurl had a bonding moment with Spensa. I can't handle loving these characters, I don't feel safe.
- Nedd left. It's so heartbreaking that he isn't even granted the opportunity to grieve both his brother's deaths. The DDF is kinda pissing me off.
- I really hope Spensa gets the truth about what happened with her dad and I hope it is liberating. This poor girl has to deal with the prejudice of another person's actions that really has nothing to do with her and what she is capable of.
(Fun tidbit - I was reading at work yesterday and a client asked me how I was finding the book so far cause he read till Cytonic and really enjoyed it. I was so shocked to have found a person irl who read the series that I started yapping for like 15 minutes about it. He luckily didn't spoil anything and even gave me a list of books to check out after I'm done with Skyward.)

Skyward fact
The name Detritus comes from the latin word Deterere, meaning to "wear away" or "rub off". It then became the word Detritus, which is usually used in reference to junk, debris, or decaying particles. I can only assume the original crew of the Defiant chose this name because of the broken and decaying outer-shell of the planet.

love how enamored Brandon Sanderson is with the stars. if i had a nickel for every time Sanderson made a world in which the night sky is always obscured so the protagonists could have a spiritual moment of glimpsing the stars and seeing the majesty of the sky I'd have two nickels
Mistborn and Skyward are also tapping into the same themes, the first view of the sky symbolizing the protagonist's world of possibility opening up
maybe this is what growing up in Utah does to a mf

Skyward | Ch 1 - 15
* spoilers *
- So about that prologue, there has to be more to the story than just Spensa's dad "fleeing". Like I've only known this guy for 10 pages, but that seems out of character for him.
- Spensa is so freaking chaotic and I am here for it. Definitely not what I expected but honestly enjoying it.
- The school sabotaging her becoming a pilot is so screwed up. Even if her dad was a coward and whatever, which I'm still highly suspicious of, taking it out on a child is crazy. Especially one that seems competent at what she's applying for. I have beef with Ironsides and will now be her #1 hater.
- School just started and Spensa already picking a fight with what seemed to be the class captain seems about right. The classmates/teammates all seem pretty cool, but I'm mostly glad Rig also made it.
- The first day of school and these kids already get sent out during an attack?! That seems irresponsible and stupid tbh. I'm just glad there were no casualties. I'm not overly attached to any characters at this point, but I definitely don't want any of them to die.
- Rig dropped out?!? He's the best friend! I actually get his reasoning, I'm just shocked. I thought he was gonna be a main character.
- Spensa befriending the slug is actually so cute! It also makes complete sense.
- Spensa being so pissed off at Jorgen for outing her secret that SHE STEALS HIS CARS POWER MATRIX actually made me laugh. I don't know why, but that is feral behaviour and I love her.

People who don't re-read books are so funny to me. "I know what happens"..?? Gurl I know what pizza tastes like, still gonna eat another one. I know what a rainbow looks like, you think that'll stop me running outside, camera in hand, to see the next one?

The Skyward books have finally arrived! I'm so excited to start another Sanderson series, but I'll only be able to pick it up closer to the weekend.
I finished The Hunger Games trilogy yesterday and it surpassed any expectation I had. I was clearly too young the first time I read it, because there is so much that happened that completely went over my head. I'll try and get through the prequels before starting Skyward, but the second I have those books in my hand I'm dropping everything to read it 😅

Even though I've been inactive on here, I promise I've been reading. I finished the first and second Dungeon Crawler Carl books and then for some reason really wanted to read The Hunger Games. I read it last when I was like 13/14 so it's been a while and I'm excited to read the prequels as well. I'm 2/3 into Catching Fire and these books are still so good! There is so much I'm noticing now that I never picked up on the last read.
