So you learn a little something new everyday

I was browsing the history of Saludos Amigos on google, and I did not know that there would be a third installment to the Good Neighbor Program that  Disney filmed in the 40’s. Since the first two mainly focused on Brazil and Mexico, Disney wanted to make the third film center around the Caribbean, most notably, Cuba. But since The Three Caballeros didn’t pull in money and WWII was coming to close, the film was canned, and all we are left with is concept art of a scrappy rooster done by Fred Moore. 

this little guy is named Miguelito Maracas, a “kikirigui”, or a guajiro rooster- a fighting cock from the countryside, “ known for having a lot of attitude and not much of anything else.” ( He would definitely clash a lot with el pato Donald, don’t you think?). And right now I’m tearing up because this would've been such an adorable movie that delve into my Hispanic heritage, but also because I feel this is what the latin films needed; the Cuban culture is a wonderful and distinct Latino treasure.
