WHY DO YOU HURT ?

RESULTS  :  you  swallow  pain  &  fold  around  it.

you  have  always  hurt.  you  hold  it  carefully,  and  twisted  in  such  a  way  that  other  people  don’t  have  to  see  it.  you  don’t  choke  on  it.  you  don’t  drown.  you  just  have  it,  the  way  some  people  have  freckles,  this  is  a  thing  that  lives  in  your  bones.  you  fold  instead  of  fighting  because  you  know  how  to  make  yourself  small,  tuck  away  the  places  where  they  have  clawed  at,  swallow  the  bruises  so  you  seem  clean.  nobody  needs  to  see  it.  you  will  live  through  this  on  your  own.  you  know  what  you  need,  and  relief  isn't  it.  this  doesn't  mean  you  cannot  reach  out  -  it  means  it  is  not  in  your  nature  to  do  so.  you  should.  hiding  does  not  mean  you  won’t  be  seen.

there’s  a  fight  to  contain  his  eye  roll  as  he  walks  alongside  melissa,  his  grip  on  the  crutches  causing  knuckles  to  whiten.  of  course  casey  and  lindsay  are  excited  to  see  that  she’s  home,  they  practically  worship  the  ground  she  wants  on,  rightfully  so,  he  thinks.  still,  having  to  think  about  his  sisters  causes  eyes  to  turn  forward,  focus  shifting to  his  steps  instead.  ❛❛  i  never  said  i  wasn’t  happy.  ❜❜

❛❛  i  am  relaxed.  ❜❜  her  posture  suggests  otherwise.  teasing  is  hard  for  casey  to  gauge,  she  can  never  tell  if  it’s  meant  in  a  bad  way  or  not,  and  benjamin  isn’t  exactly  around  for  her  to  translate  these  days.  attempting  to  uncurl  her  body,  she  rests  palms  atop  of  thighs  and  exhales  slowly.  ❛❛  i’m  not  really  good  at  the  whole,  you  know...  ❜❜  lifting  one  of  her  hands,  she  waves  it  through  the  air  in  a  vague  fashion.  if  she  wasn’t  feeling  out  of  place  early  she  certainly  is  now.  brows  furrow  as  lips  press  together.  ❛❛  sorry...  ❜❜
