It’s funny because I just remembered that in the books Jeremiah flirts with Taylor when she makes advances at him without shame in front of Belly. Meanwhile, Taylor hates Conrad because he rejected her advances and wouldn’t even give her a second look. And the way Belly even narrates that Taylor had not chance with Conrad but with Jeremiah she would because he’s into everyone.

She also says that she loves how Conrad doesn’t care about the social life of high school. He was popular because he was the quarterback in the football team (because Adam made him play) but if he wasn’t he’ll be just a quiet normal guy that plays guitar and would even join the mug team.

it just irritates me so fucking much bc im all for team stuff when its in good fun (im usually on the side of the first guy always bc hes what's best for the character according to how narrative arcs work + the author + also personal preference to top it off), but when it just becomes team 2nd guy gaslighting themselves + everyone else around them...yall so annoying fr 🙁🙄🙄 open ur eyes im so sick

To say it better:

The story isn’t a democracy. It’s not a choose-your-own-ending. It’s not about shipping whoever vibes with you personally in a vacuum.

The second guy isn’t there to be a viable long-term option — he’s a structural device. He’s part of the emotional gauntlet the main character has to walk through to reach their final self. He’s not the ending.

I'm literally describing textbook narrative structure. The second love interest almost always enters at a moment of transition or doubt — when the hero is questioning who they are and who they want to become. He isn’t just “a better boyfriend” — he’s the temptation of an easier life, a different path, or a version of themselves that feels safer... but isn’t true to their core.

The “teams” are fan-made (or sometimes advertisor-made) distractions from the deeper currents of meaning. And sure, yeah — you can personally prefer the second guy (Jeremiah, Jacob, etc.), but you can’t rewrite the spine of the story just because you liked a smile better.

And when people say things like “she should’ve ended up with [second guy] instead!” what they’re really saying is:

“I would’ve made a different emotional decision in her place.”

Cool. But you’re not her.

And you’re not the author.

And that’s not the story being told.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not about liking who you would date, but rather it’s about watching a character fulfill their arc in the world the author built for them. And it's lowkey a fucking disgrace to die on a hill otherwise with no understanding or appreciation for the craft at all.

Maybe it's a tough pill to swallow, but maybe you should try being someone who actually understands how narrative arcs, authorial intention, and emotional resonance work. Good fucking riddance.

smth i just genuinely dont get tho is ppl not understanding stories + authors purpose + arcs. like team conrad team jeremiah team jacob team edward team damon team BLAH BLAH BLAH. ur all delusional + it doesn't even make sense cuz like. yeah mayb sometimes the second guy is objectively better as outsiders looking in but it still doesn't matter the story's not abt that!! 2nd guy is always an obstacle to the main couple, part of the arc, they mirror the hero's internal conflict, they heighten the emotional stakes, they are a PLOT device to the story being told along.

yeah mayb sometimes shes not choosing what's easier or what rational people what do, but that's the fucking point, its the purpose of the story, its their character and their development and the whole use behind the story in the first place, not to throw away everything from the beginning and all established lore just to start doing anything new. its abt circle endings always, that is how the best stories work, not just romances

so no it doesn't REALLY matter who you like more bc its always going to be belly and conrad's story, bella and edward's, laura jean and peter, ilsa and laszlo, allie and noah, elena and damon, kate and anthony, thats how it fucking works man. the whole team think is just marketing bullshit every single time, and yeah its fun and makes for great internet culture and memes and comeraderie and whatever, BUT it's not the point. and it's one thing to have a personal preference or whatever for yourself + to just straight up not understand how the craft works and to be annoying as all fuck abt it. thats just not how story writing goes!!
