What people fail to understand (or they do but choose to ignore for the sake of their narrative) is that Jenny didn’t make Conrad “a good one” and Jeremiah “the bad one” suddenly on S3 — they just unfold into what they’ve always been!

From the get go the narrative tells you Conrad isn’t the person he is during Season 1 and 2, that his personality has changed to this somber and emotionally stoic person due to the circumstances that only he knew were unfolding in their lives and then gradually turned into a severe depression, later grief. But Season 3 Conrad is exactly the guy Conrad is. The one Belly feel in love with, the one Laurel speaks highly about, the mature one Steven always knew. Season 3 Conrad comes from him doing the work needed to heal himself and it’s the normal version of himself given everything.

Jeremiah was always the irresponsible brother, he’s always been the one that takes things less seriously. This is a fact. And this wouldn’t be a problem since he’s young – the main problem with him is that he allows his insecurities over Conrad be a definitive factor on his behavior, especially about Belly. The cracks on how him feeling less favorable than Conrad had made its appearance little by little — It’s always there in his relationship with Belly, how careless he was once he finally “got the girl” (over Conrad) only to realize he never truly did. For over 2 years, Jeremiah doesn’t do the healing that he needed to do over his parents, Susannah or Conrad. Jeremiah’s actions are motivated by insecurity and is the biggest reason for his downfall. And it’s a consequence of him not seeking the help he needed and just pilling everything on Belly or hoping that him “getting the girl” was enough to validate him as a person over his brother.

Conrad did the work and acknowledged his wrongdoings, he never made himself a victim. He accepted that he ruined things with Belly. Jeremiah does not. He blamed everyone else except for himself for how things went down.

i think conrad is a MAJOR observer like he's going to watch silently for your habits so he can silently and coolly replace your favorites and just make your life easy

"why won't this bottle of perfume die?" "i bought the refillable bottle, i refill it all the time" and then he just goes to get chips

"fuck, i forgot to buy (item for your hobby)" "oh, i got it, should be in the drawer" "what?"

conrad is not a yapper but he loves to listen to you talk, especially when you're venting and he gets to watch you unravel

"are you listening, connie?" "yeah, you just look pretty right now"

demands phone-free dates; surfing, walking, hiking, eating, and talking

the most supportive of anything you do, he doesn't miss an event, gallery, performance

"i thought your final was today?" "art show." "connie"

he doesn't go to parties that you aren't at and if you're there, it's more like a date

he brings you drinks, opens your beers, holds your cups/bottles at every party

if you're there, conrad's watching you to keep you safe regardless of if you're with him or not

he loves to cuddle and you definitely have sherpys that you hang around in during the winter

cooks dinners with you instead of going out to eat because he thinks its more fun but really it's because he likes to be fully alone with you

watches you get ready to go out every day, comes early in the morning when you're going out without him to see you get ready

listens to music with you at full volume and dances around in your rooms or sing a longs in the car

Steven : Conrad is Belly's soulmate. He challenges her positively and is able to see all the complex things she has to offer. Not Jeremiah. Who is just too easygoing for someone as complex as Belly. So again, he can't bring all that to her.

Conrad : Ruined the first date of Belly with a mixture of boredom and jealousy. Tried to seduce Belly while being with Nicole in the same time. Gaslighted her (tried to make her momentarily believe their almost-kiss didn't actually happen). Put her down. Never comforted her like she once did him. Constantly played hot and cold about his feelings for her. Lied to her about Jeremiah so he could be with her faster when she was clear she didn't want it that way. Never told her I love you. Makes fun of Finch, the school she was so enthusiastic about. Isn't able to read / understand her thoughts most of the time. Knocked her down like a piece of shit during their fight on the beach. Takes care to embarrass her and Jeremiah in the car after seeing them kissing.

And I could go on and on.

What, Steven ?

Is Conrad Belly's soulmate because she fell in love with him at 12 ? Isn't she allowed to change over time ? Or is he also her soulmate because you think Conrad is the coolest guy ever ?

We're not in the old days anymore, where the real one is his sister's guardian in her romantic relationships, damn it.

Or maybe because Conrad knows Belly's favorite candy while we're at it ? 🙄

This dialogue from Steven is stupid and woefully hypocritical, especially regarding his so-called friendship with Jeremiah...

Jeremiah is complex.

The irony is that people think he isn't simply because he's actually emotionally mature. I didn't know that complexity rhymes with emotional immaturity.

Jeremiah understands all of Belly's facets. She's her best friend, damn it. He's able to read her mind for the most part. He also challenges her positively. He remembers the things she likes that others forget, and encourages her to do them. Not to mention always encouraging her to think carefully about the choices she's considering. When did Conrad challenge Belly positively or fully understand her ?!

Do people realize that Conrad and Belly failed as a couple precisely because Conrad isn't everything Steven described Belly as ?! Or am I the only one who realizes how stupid this guy is ?!

That's why I say you always have to be careful with the dialogue in shows.

Not only is it important, but also what's happening on screen to understand whether what a character is saying is true or false.

What Steven says is objectively false. There's not even a debate to be had.

It kills me when Steven opens his mouth, Bonrad fans find it more important than what Belly herself thinks !?

Namely, that Jeremiah is her reality and Conrad her dream. Jeremiah is her present, her future / forever, and Conrad is the past, but a part of her will always love him.

The characters' actions and the unfolding of the show support all of this through its narrative.

Steven's words themselves are not supported by anything except probably the most superficial things, namely that Conrad is Belly's first love and that Steven likes him (and that's only from Steven's point of view, but apparently Bonrad fans think that candy is also irrefutable proof)...

And all these things are not real arguments.

Period.

It was after this moment when Belly fell and Conrad carried her that she realized her feelings for him were coming back.

“Looking up at him. I had this sudden thought, oh my god. I still love you. I thought my feelings for Conrad were safely tucked away…But just because you bury something. That doesn’t mean it stops existing. Those feelings. They’d been there all along all that time. I had to just face it. He was a part of my DNA…and I would always have Conrad in my heart. He would inhabit just that tiny piece of it. For the rest of my life. I would think of him fondly…firsts were important. But I was pretty sure lasts were even more important and Jeremiah, he was going to be my last, my every and my always.”

Even though she says Jeremiah is her last, it truly feels like she’s trying to convince herself. She isn’t truly sure.

Jeremiah and Belly’s relationship doesn’t end because of #that incident. It ends because it was a bomb waiting to explode. Belly spends their whole relationship in denial about her feelings. She has to convince herself she wants to be in a relationship with him and that she didn’t settle for it. Meanwhile, Jeremiah is just waiting for the other shoe to drop because he knows deep down that he wasn’t her choice. This is why Conrad becomes the Voldemort of their relationship and neither of them mentions him because they know it will lead to the conversation neither of them wants to have. It will burst their bubble of delusion. And the trailer if anything, confirms the fact Belly keeps trying to find a spark she doesn’t feel with him because Conrad is always there in her mind.

I think that the most obvious hint against belly ended up with jere IS the fact that she ended season 2 with him. Because they’ve got an entire season and if it ends with them together then it was just a waste of time. However if it ends with belly and Conrad (as it SHOULD) then there is an actual point to season 3 🙂‍↕️
