Egremont House (the old 'In' and 'Out' Club) Piccadilly was begun in 1759 by Matthew Brettingham. We were instructed to produce a proposal to undertake a comprehensive analysis of the building. Sadly, nothing came of this as the then owner ran into difficulties. #papersandpaints #patrickbaty #paint #paintcolours #paintcolors #decoration #colour #color #interiors #paintanalysis #egremonthouse #inandoutclub #piccadilly #lordpalmerston #matthewbrettingham (at Piccadilly)

Woodrow High House (formerly Woodside House) near Amersham, was built in the 17th century. During the Civil War, Oliver Cromwell housed his family here. The house is believed to be haunted by The Green Lady of Woodrow. The Grotto is thought to relate to this story #papersandpaints #patrickbaty #paint #paintcolours #paintcolors #decoration #colour #color #interiors #paintanalysis #anatomyofcolor #woodsidehouse #woodrowhighhouse #greenladyofwoodrow #olivercromwell #civilwar #amersham (at Woodrow High House - London Youth)

Forensic work exemplified. Tor Royal built 1785-93 on Dartmoor. The paint on a pair of doors told me that they had once hung in the Prince Regent's Carlton House, which was demolished in 1827. Furthermore, I could prove that they had connected the Blue Velvet Closet with the Prince's Bedchamber (marked with a cross). #papersandpaints #patrickbaty #paint #paintcolours #paintcolors #decoration #colour #color #interiors #paintanalysis #forensics #carltonhouse #torroyal #princeregent #dartmior #sirthomastyrwhitt (at Tor Royal Bed & Breakfast)

Lindsey House, Cheyne Walk. Built in 1674 and extensively remodelled for Count Nicholas von Zinzendorf in 1750. Split into seven dwellings in 1760. James Whistler lived in two of the houses from 1863-1878. We worked on Whistler's house and, by an analysis of the paint, discovered which room had been the setting of two of his most famous portraits. #papersandpaints #patrickbaty #paint #paintcolours #paintcolors #decoration #colour #color #interiors #paintanalysis #countvonzinzendorf #jameswhistler #johnmartin #marcbrunel #dogjennings #lindseyhouse #cheynewalk #chelsea #riverthames #whistlersmother #thomascarlyle (at Cheyne Walk)

The Admiralty Lookout and Port War Signal Station is located at the southern limit of the grounds of Dover Castle. It stands hundreds of feet above sea-level on the White Cliffs of Dover. In 1905 a central Fire Command Post was built on the site. In 1914 the Admiralty sited its Port War Signal Station on top of it. It was further enhanced during WWII. We were employed to advise on appropriate paint colours for its later role. #papersandpaints #patrickbaty #paint #paintcolours #paintcolors #decoration #colour #color #interiors #paintanalysis #exterior #admiraltylookout #dovercastle #wwi #wwii (at Dover Castle)

The rare surviving 1750s shopfront at No. 56 Artillery Lane. It displays the pale stone colour that had been used here until the late 19th century. We also examined the slightly later shopfront at No. 58 and the interiors of both buildings (via @georgianlondon) It is now an art gallery #papersandpaints #patrickbaty #paint #paintcolours #paintcolors #decoration #colour #color #interiors #paintanalysis #exteriors #shopfront #artillerylane (at Raven Row)

1960s paint colours - Following his paint analysis of the Golden Lane Housing Estate Patrick Baty of Papers and Paints devised a range of 1960s paint colours to sell in the shop.
Subsequently he has been employed to produce similar ranges for the European market.

Unsettlingly shiny !
A beautifully painted and maintained front door off the King’s Road, in Chelsea.
A shiny front door is a joy to behold, but this may be a step too far.
Ask Papers and Paints for advice on the best colour for your front door.

Why apply black paint to brick?
There seems to be a recent tradition in Mayfair. It certainly has no historical precedent.
It can lead to tears - especially the paint is applied at the wrong time of year!
Why not ask Papers and Paints before taking this step?
