Elizabeth Taylor, 1954, photo by Cecil Beaton
Beaton took several beautiful photos of Taylor over the years but he didn’t like her, thinking she was vulgar and unladylike. I’m sure Taylor would have agreed with him. She never desired to be ladylike.

Marilyn Monroe, New York, 1955, photo by Ed Feingersh
This is possibly my favorite photo of Monroe. She’s no longer a movie star but an attractive young woman like many others who’ve come to New York to learn and to grow into their vocation, whatever that might be. Monroe was in the city waiting out a contract dispute with her studio in Hollywood. She spent the time studying her craft at the Actors Studio, meeting and talking with interesting people and just basically discovering who in the world she might be.
