You snort quietly, fingers intertwining with the hand resting comfortably on your thigh. “It’s not a good thing, either. Drink up.”

Dave grins, momentarily pressing against your back to reach for his own beer before reclining comfortably back in the chair, pulling you tighter against him as he goes. “You say that like she’s a threat—she’s as hopeless as you.”

“You have five years and one day,” a woman in black says. She blinks, and her sparkling blue eyes turn dark; inky black nothing where the whites of her eyes should be.
He says nothing, glaring hard at her.
“Don’t be so grumpy, David. Eternal life isn’t so bad,” she smirks. “You’ll enjoy it after a while.”
She disappears, and he exhales, finally, with his wife and his girls’ safety guaranteed. The only thing he has to give up is his soul.
