Cherix and TechNicole, finally together. I still haven’t settled on the exact nature of their relationship, although I’m getting more of a cousins or BFF vibe than sisters or girlfriends. Maybe they are like me and my cousin— BFFs growing up, as adults have a loving, “would help one another bury a body & take the secret to our grave”, “we’re family so we have to put up up with the other’s crap”, mutually alternating feelings of pity and jealousy, vaguely antagonistic rival relationship. The Licca-chan television and the rest of my order got lost in Japan for over a year. (It’s actually a really funny story. But also a long story, and I’m on the phone.)

It came up in conversation how I'm often finding good BJD listings on eBay and how do I search in order to find things.

My main searches are:

bjd -ucanaan -toy -toys -popovy -recast -eva -doris -barbie -gift -changeable -removable -gifts -oueneifs -faiiry -ken

and

volks -azone -blythe -pullip

However, I've also excluded a lot of sellers that sell recasts.

To do that you have to go to Advanced search and scroll down to here:

and put in whatever sellers you don't want to see in your search results.

I just added one, so mine's:

I also set the first search to North America only because there's no "everywhere but China" option. China is where most of the fakes are coming from as of now. That does mean I miss out on a TON of listings, though.

That helps filter out recasters that don't disclose they're selling recasts and AliExpress junk.

The Volks search's results are much fewer so sorting through them isn't as daunting and I have that one set to worldwide.

Either way, afaik Facebook Groups is the most active place to buy and sell BJD right now? I'm not in any groups, though.

I think I'm actually happy with the wings? They're getting a bit washed out by the lighting here.

Definitely happy with the body and antennae (the head will be blushed).

I might dip the front of the neck piece into some dark brown? 🤔

Imomo neck joint mod because the default connector is... very floppy to say the least. Upper rod part of imomo neck joint was cut prior to these pictures, used hot water to soften the neck in order to remove the lower piece.

White piece is from Taobao - third-party piece for converting Dollfie Dream neck joints to be compatible with BJD slot-style head attachment.

Gorilla glue and Apoxie used to connect, but someone with CAD and a 3d printer could definitely make a version of the white piece that's already compatible with the imomo neck piece.

Can I ask how you attached the head to wisteria?

Here is a quick & dirty overview i wrote up a bit ago:

For clarity the CFdoll Dai body comes with a GSC-compatible neck connector peg, the kind that's just a ball-shaped hinge with a peg on either end

- Removed the front panel (FYI this will void the warranty) - it's not glued but I needed an exacto knife to get in the gap to pop it off

- the screen does come off from where it's attached to the bottom 4 prongs so you can pop it off to prevent scratching while handling. Everything else seems to be glued in place, I didn't want to mess with the electronics too much.

- veeery carefully drilled into the base with a drill bit that was big enough for the neck peg to fit throigh the hole

- Cut the friction-fit hole bit from a YMY neck piece and shaved the GSC neck joint down a little as it was slightly wider until it fit snugly

- (optional - bulked it up a bit with some apoxie because i want to hollow it out some to hide the ball from the neck connector)

- Glued the neck piece inside the base of the ortomi - there's some space at the bottom but not much so I used needle-nose pliers to position it, looking from the bottom to make sure the piece lines up with the drilled hole. I used reverse-action tweezers as a makeshift clamp to prevent any shifting while the glue cured because there was no way anything else was fitting in there

- Once the glue is cured, test the fit and if all went well put the screen back on the bottom four prongs and pop the front of the case back on

- Huzzah! Ortomi now has a body!

At some point I would like to write up a full tutorial !
