So I wear scarves at work. Sometimes it's cold. Sometimes it's rainy. Sometimes I'm giving the nonverbal cue that I don't want to be talked to unless absolutely necessary. So of course I've had people ask if it's for religious reasons, because I live in Indiana and let's be real; for the most part it's respectful because I look very white. For the record though: No self respecting religious practitioner would show this much hair floof if they did prefer to wear a "scarf." [[No one expects you to know everything, just educate yourselves + continue asking respectful questions, habibis. ❤ ]] TODAY, HOWEVER. Today, one of my coworkers simply stated, "You look Muslim," when he came to drop off paperwork. And before I could even begin to sigh heavily, he said, "Very chic." He's gone now and I need all of you to know how uncouth that former statement is and ask you to please not use it with anyone in the future, but I'm still giggling to myself because I. AM SO. MAD. Good morning, babies. I hope you all find yourselves capable of meditating throughout the day; if not, right now, I hope you learn to make time for you. FITNESS TIP I: Everyone you encounter in this world will teach you something, so pay attention. Sometimes the lessons are clear, other times not, but the gist can be as simple as this: Learning how you don't want to be is just as important as deciding who you do want to be, and the people you surround yourself with provide great examples of the frequency in which you are comfortable existing. On the same token, some people teach you how you want to be treated, versus how you don't. Be careful + aware of the energy you invite into your life. The great thing about people is that if you're ever uncertain as to the kind of person someone truly is, they will always show you. Let them. Listen. I have had the bad habit in the past of empathizing first, protecting myself later, thereby providing too many excuses as explanations for the behaviour exhibited + never stopping to think, "Just because I resonate at a deeper level doesn't mean everyone else does; maybe this person is just precisely what they're showing me." Some of you have been so helpful in pulling me out of my depths for a second to finally see someone at face value. See them at their own frequency. It hurts, sometimes, but I can't thank you enough for that. FITNESS TIP II: I. just. adore. how many of you feel you can come to me. About anything. Be it on behalf of yourself or people you want to help + know you can't. I've been through a bit, which gives me a very unique perspective on life. If you recognize that + wish to ask me for either advice or objectivity, please do not hesitate. I've been told, often, that I am "the strongest person" some of you know. Though that's flattering, I don't think that's true. But I think I see why, so have a secret to share: When you've gone through the fire, you can either harden your heart so it never feels it again or raise your tolerance for future pain. Having a penchant for choosing the latter isn't a pleasant experience, but it's the one I will always choose to be able to love in the way that I do. ❤
