i mean i can recall when i was younger and did not know the way of the tied shoelace i hated the way tied shoes felt so its very possible it could be a thing for patrick too. esp if its like a texture thing. since he deliberately wears velcro/slip on shoes and even tucks the laces into his shoes & has been described as "not liking" shoelaces on shoes i can definitely see it being more of a dislike of tying shoelaces rather than just not knowing how to tie them
