Had a very relaxing day with these two recently. Two of the kindest, most real, genuine humans you will encounter. I’m lucky enough to be related to one and because of her I know the other and now call her friend…so lucky! It was a day to catch up, lay in the sunshine, float in the water, laugh, gossip, listen to music and just be…it does not happen often enough, but for that day I am thankful. Girl time is essential. Spending days with these girls brings me such peace. The weekend included mini golf, swim lessons, shopping and Disney movies! We just fall into an old rhythm, laugh a lot, talk about mama and love on each other. I’m so grateful their mom gave me that time with them when we all grew so close. I’m even more grateful now for their dad who allows me, welcomes me and encourages me to remain so ingrained in their lives. I never want to stop laughing, playing and remembering with them. Ever. I was waiting for one more pic so I could post pics from a couple amazing days back in the bay…it was nice to finally see some family who we had not been able to even see, let alone hug or spend time with…it was well overdue and much needed for the soul. So today it starts, the official countdown to my baby turning 21!!! 21 days until she is 21!!! Crazy! The time has flown by. I can honestly say I’m more proud than I ever imagined. I’m grateful she’s my friend. I’m elated watching her turn into this determined, creative, outspoken, beautiful creature. This will continue to be fun and I will continue to count my blessings. Spent the last couple days celebrating someone specials birthday with these amazing creatures! It’s been a long time time since we were all together around one table. I was over the moon, so excited and just filled with joy to be in their presence. I hope they all know how special they all are to me! Friendship…it was great to reconnect with this other dynamic mom daughter vegan duo! It is always amazing to spend an afternoon with amazing women who make you laugh, think, remember and be grateful…this was today. An afternoon spent catching up over coffee, a cocktail, compassionate vegan food, conversation and friendship! The last time the four of us were together, Alex and I were just starting our vegan journey, they were ahead of us. And here now 5 years later we are all thriving and grateful to spend time again with each other. We promised we would not let it be another 5 years! About this weekend…it was spent having a wonderful meal with my cousin on the deck of our local Grill while visited by our two local albino deer. Then a meal at our new local brewery with friends and family…then a girls day on the beach, tanning, laughing, crying, sharing, remembering, white-clawing(it’s a thing) …life is about these kinds of moments. When we can stop. When we can share. When we can just be. No accidents. On Memorial Day no less. Yep, two years ago I posted this. These two souls, then still on earth, one like a mom, one like a sister, we’re both here to “see me, hear me, love me.”They bore witness to my loss, my pain, my hope. See, my nephew had only been gone less than 4 months but we had received good news about Nic. But we were all still, well struggling would be an understatement. These two souls that were the epitome of living life, out loud, with no apologies took their time to embrace me with their words. These two strong woman who I learned so much from but especially how to love. With your whole heart, always, all ways…stopped scrolling that day, to let me know they saw me, loved me…all while the two of them were going thru their own living hells still trying to remain hopeful themselves. Just so that today that this pops up as my memory is no accident. It is them. It is all of them. Reminding us to remember them but to keep going, keep living and especially keep loving. You never know how just a few words, an emoji, a call, a text, a note, a visit, will change someone’s world, life, day, or even just a moment. Take the time. It was a hard few days…the memories were everywhere. The loss so heavy. The realization of a full year gone, lived without her, crushing. BUT we are growing thru it. Her love, her memory, her laugh surrounds us, blankets us with strength, fills us with joy so we can continue to be thankful for her. We all wish we had more time, one more laughing session, more memories. It was not to be, we are still trying to reconcile that. What helps? What eases it a bit? Spending time with other people who loved her just as much. People who she loved with all her heart. She asked me to stay close to these people, her people. Watch over them. Be there for them. She thought by asking these things of me I would be doing something for her. Little did she know, those requests would be what sustains me, gives me such joy, comfort, strength. Spending time with her humans and pups, it’s a gift she gave me. Thank you friend. You are missed more than you ever could have imagined. You are loved more than you ever realized. You are a gift none of us deserved! We are better for knowing you, being loved by you, and just being in your presence. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you…rest, until we see each other again girl. Just a gentle reminder that this weekend is not easy for everyone. There are motherless children and children-less mothers out there struggling to get thru the commercials, posts and reminders everywhere that someone is missing. Being missed. Missed out on so much. And for some it is bitter sweet, still trying to be here smiling, enjoying the honor while trying not to let the shattering of their broken heart be heard by those around them. Balance. Breathe. Begin again. It’s been a busy week. It’s always nice to take some time, in the sunshine, hands in the dirt, fingers touching gentle petals, replanting something into new earth hoping it takes to its new home. Spring is like that. Renewal. Growth. Change. Expanding. Reaching. Rooting. This earth, the things she makes, it is quite incredible. Take some time. Everyday should be Earth Day. After all, without her we all cease to exist, thrive, breathe, eat, live. She gives and gives all of herself until she is depleted, to her detriment, just like most mothers. We don’t know how to not care for our children, she is the same. We need to honor her, care for her, listen to her, save her. She is counting on us to be there for her as she has always been there for us. She may not survive for future generations if we don’t stop hurting her, using her, abusing her, taking and taking and taking from her. Like most mothers she will continue to give, let us take, until she can no longer. On this Earth Day, let’s truly take stock of what we use, how we live, what we eat, what we actually need and let’s RE-adjust. RE-adjust our thoughts, words, actions and start to truly honor her like the mother she has been to us our whole lives...please, She’s depending on us. Peace. This sweet girl turns 17 today! It’s amazing that the time is flying by. She has had a year no one deserves. A loss so profound. She has persevered. Stood up. Loved us all thru it. Showed us strength. She has had to grow up quick, but what an outstanding job she has done. Taking care of her lil sis, helping her dad. She’s remarkable. We always knew she was special, especially her mom, but she’s blossomed even more into the most wonderful young lady imaginable.
