heaven help me - i couldn't not join with a blog just for twilight shitposting (and more) and of course it needed a name so... here I am with paul lahottie. send help. i need it. Link in my navigation to help the Quileute people (since for some reason I can't make it work here.) A little bit about me - I'm 29 (almost 30, a write off in smeyer world), and I actually didn't read twilight for the first time until I was 28. I'm kind of an anomaly, I suppose. I don't have nostalgic memories of enjoying it as a teen bc my teen self was like "this writing is shit" and wouldn't read it. For me I think it meant that when I did finally read it, my eyes were open to the glaring issues with the Twilight Saga. I didn't read it and enjoy Bella and Edward's love story, I read it and saw glimmers of potential in all these other characters that were introduced but not entirely explored, and often given harsh treatment due to their creators biases. I got hooked on the idea of playing with these characters, and with the fabric of the universe smeyer created in order to give those characters - and the real people she hurt in her creation, justice.

I turn 30 in February, and I still get asked if I’m 18-21, depending on whether I have makeup on or not.
Me trying to be a parent at 23, they still would have been asking me if I was the high schooler lmao.
I still can’t get over the fact that Carlisle is supposed to be stuck in a 23-year old body. Like he was turned at 23. Twenty. Three.
No 23-year old looks old enough to parent five teenagers let alone be a seasoned doctor. Let alone act like their parent if vampires are mentally stuck at the age they turn like SMeyer says.
«Carlisle is supposed to be ten years older than he looks and people are starting to notice» 33?? You mean 33??? OF COURSE PEOPLE NOTICE-

Anon who asked about me going into more detail about the incident in my youth - I don’t actually mind, and I will – but I’ve sorta been preparing myself. It is still a lot to talk about and life has been wild while I’ve been moving and taking care of cleaning/dealing with the old flat.
Suffice to say, I really could have used at Jacob in my life at that point. (Or maybe even a Seth Clearwater, I was young enough.)

i like making aus because i can come up with the stupidest shit you have ever heard
like, who’s to say vampires can’t get “chips” taken out of their skin? canon? canon has no power here. canon’s a tyrant king of a land across the sea, and i’m a fucking god. now kneel

30 days of twilight | day 29 | favorite moment from breaking dawn
I always wondered where the crown jewels disappeared to after John of England pawned them in the thirteenth century. I suppose it doesn't surprise me that the Volturi have their share.

You suddenly switch bodies with your icon. On a scale of 1 to 10, (10 being the highest value) how well are you coping with that change?

why does no one talk about why renee didn’t go to bella’s graduation
I mean I personally am just…not that interested in renee? she is the way she is for Plot Reasons and that’s lazy writing, but not so much that I, like. care about it.
welcome to a tried and true trope in YA and other writing: the Guilt-Free Disposable Parent
it was obvious from minute 1 that smeyer was trying to portray bella as having a distant relationship with her parents (the calling them by their first names unironically?? so weird) so that when she inevitably chose to become a vampire and leave them behind, she wouldn’t seem like an asshole to the audience.
but like. in order to take what is supposed to be THE closest familial relationship a person can have and make it distant and not a big deal, someone’s gonna have to look like an asshole. it couldn’t be bella, the POV character and protagonist we need to like. so it’s renee. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
what’s more remarkable to me is charlie. he was clearly also set up to be a Guilt-Free Disposable Parent: so comically out of touch with bella that he doesn’t realize she’s cut her hair, generally unaware of what’s going on in her life, only ever mentioned in passing unless the plot demands an Obstacle (like when she has to break his heart to run away in book 1) or some Stakes (whenever the supernatural world threatens to bust out and harm charlie. see: most of eclipse.)
but through these Obstacle and Stakes interactions, he kind of evolved into a much bigger, more three-dimensional, and more likable character than (I suspect) smeyer ever intended. and thanks in large part to Billy Burke and all the fun charlie moments in the movies, he’s now a fan favorite (and rightfully so!)
and when it comes to twilight, I’d rather celebrate the (however accidental) successes like charlie than dwell on the clumsy writing failures like renee. I see what you did there, stephenie, and I think it was stupid, and that’s about as deep as my thought process goes here.
so, yeah. it’s dumb that renee didn’t go to bella’s graduation. if they were real people with agency, that would be really shitty. but they’re not, and it’s clear stephenie just didn’t want to have renee around in eclipse (or for 95% of the books, lol.)
like next time just give your protagonist a dead mom like in every disney movie @ stephenie

Okay so this is kinda off topic and related to an older ask. Re:Alice’s gift
You mentioned how Alice’s visions are based on choices, but that she wasn’t on any path when she saw the Cullens/Jasper.
My thought process (and tbf I have not checked canon or the guide in forever) is that she “decides” to find other vampires and her visions show her the Cullens. She “decides” to follow her vision and join the Cullens and sees herself as a vegetarian. She “decides” to be a vegetarian, and sees herself led to Jasper, who needs vegetarianism to save his mental health (this one is the most shaky. Smeter probably just wanted it to be a “preordained love story” and didn’t think it through but whatever).
I put “decision” in quotes because, if I had no memory and woke up a thirsty vampire and my brain was showing me things, I’d damn well think “whelp. Guess I’ll do that then” without much thought because…what’s the alternative? So they’re decisions/choices *technically* but they’re really more like instinct.
I think her gift is kinda used sporadically and the rules are inconsistent, but then again, everyone’s gifts are.
I think it makes a lot of sense that at first she's not understand how/why she's having the vision! I could see a scenario where she feels lonely/scared and longs for companionship and POOF her vision generates Jasper and the Cullens.
What I really wonder is if Jasper was predestined or like, her vision just randomly generated an unmated vampire like "uh, here!" and Alice was like "welp guess that's my one true love" and once she decided he was her true love THAT shaped the future, or if it was really Mystic Fate. I mean if she had seen Edward first would she have decided "that's my soulmate" or whatever? I'm sure SM would say she wouldn't have seen Edward and Jasper IS her fated, destined soulmate but I'm always fascinated by those self-fulfilling prophecy things. Or those Greek tragedies where someone goes out of their way trying to avoid a certain future, only to have their actions be the thing that makes that future come about anyway.
I think in canon she sees Jasper first, and then Carlisle/the Cullens, but otherwise I think your theory makes as much sense as can be made out of it.
I'm just amused by the idea of Jasper being a random vampire and Alice just latching on to it like "FATE HAS SPOKEN" and her visions were like "wait actually we were warning you that he could be dangerous and--" "Nope, true love!" and because she decided to love him, that changed the whole outcome.
But yeah it ultimately comes down to Alice's power being inconsistent and doing whatever SM needs it to do (or failing to do what SM needs it NOT to do) to fit the story she wants to tell, rather than Alice's gift and the other rules of the world shaping the story.

so i've seen a lot of discussions about how impr*nting can be problematic (though that's not to say people can't enjoy it and put their own spin on it in ways they want), and i thought i'd share an alternative idea i've come up with while working on my AU fic!
Tethering.
tethering would be something that has to be consensual on both sides (and can be broken at any point by either party involved), and can be platonic rather than romantic. to expand on that using its role in my fic as an example, the pack is tethered together, only once they have had time to get used to being with the others and as such can make the choice on whether or not that's something they want to do, and it is not a requirement to be part of the pack.
the tethering is what allows them to sense each other's thoughts more clearly (as it's more jumbled without a tether, but clear enough they can tell when someone else is in danger / adapt quickly during fights), and those who have been phased for longer / spent more time in wolf form find it easier to 'tune out' the others thoughts. the tether would also replace the 'alpha's will', as it is created from an already deep bond, in essence, it is swearing to protect and care for each other for as long as you choose to do so.
in a romantic sense, a tether would deepen an already romantic bond, and should one party not be a wolf, would allow the one that is to be able to tell when the person they are tethered to is in danger (not reading minds, but able to sense strong panic / fear).
this is just a fun little thing I've been working on, and if anyone wants to borrow the idea for their own fics, that's completely fine with me! no credit needed but it would be appreciated (as it's my original idea as far as i know, but if someone else has thought of / done something similar just ignore that!), however, i'd ask you let me know so i can enjoy what you've written for myself, i'm always after new fics!
have a great day, and remember to rest!

90% of emmett scenes in the movies just feel like kellan genuinely reacting to what’s happening. like they didn’t even give him lines they just dressed him up and set him loose on the set

all debates abt the artistic merits of fanfiction fail to recognize the purpose of fic. you don’t write fic to be published or to learn how to construct a narrative although you can use it to develop style. you write it so that your friends will message you “bestie you’re utterly deranged for this one im eating dirt”

I just had the dumbest thought. What if Jane doesn't say pain every time she uses her power just because she's dramatic permanently 12-year-old, but because it's a safety thing for the other members of the volturi. Like you know how if you work in a kitchen you'll hear them say stuff like "hot- around the corner" or "behind you with a knife" maybe vampire osha Said she had to announce it so that none of the other members would just walk in front of her and get pain-ed
