Happy birthday to Jim McCartney's beloved red piece of meat, Donovan's beautiful two-headed monster, Martha the dog's adored owner, Yoko Ono's great threat. Happy Birthday to Mike McCartney's tender older brother, George Harrison's older brother by nine whole months and the baby brother Ringo's Starr always wanted. Happy birthday to one of the only men Bob Dylan considered a threat, Stevie Wonder's friend, Brian Wilson's admirer, the man who Derek Taylor briefly hated more than anybody else and the person who sent Dusty Springfield flowers in her time of need. Happy birthday to the guiding light in Stella McCartney's life, the man who fought a ram to defend his children and the man who let kids play with knives to teach them life skills. Happy birthday to the man who feels love so much that it comes out in all body tingles, who sees stonehenge as the heart chakra of the earth and who just really really likes buses. Happy birthday to the 1960s pin-up, the indie rock forerunner, the flop movie maker, the writer, the 1980s chew toy, the vegetarian advocate, the protester and the council lad from Liverpool who changed music forever.
Happy birthday to Linda McCartney's prince charming, John Lennon's extraordinary dear one. Happy birthday to today's Mozart, Yesterday's creator and everyones grandude.
Happy birthday to the Gemini who isn't just a Gemini, but a whole constellation.
Happy birthday Paul McCartney.

Derek Taylor, the Beatles' publicist, once told me he was sure that no matter how Paul was standing or moving, he always knew just how the crease at the back of his trousers was falling or how his jacket was hanging at the waist. This was not a narcissistic thing as Paul wasn't a dandy; it was just an incredible level of show-business professionalism.

RadarOnline.com has learned the Beatles legend has been frequenting Club Cumming in the Big Apple recently!
“Sir Paul seems to be becoming a regular," the club's co-owner Daniel Nardicio revealed to Straight Shuter.
And the singer has made himself quite comfortable at the establishment! "He came in without bodyguards," dished Nardicio.
"He and his friends drank quietly during our party, Haus of Cumming."
The bar owner was pleased with McCartney's presence. "He’s really lovely, polite and unassuming,” the businessman said.

paul cooking just for him and john like 😭😭 fuck those other two i guess
(quote creds)
Transcript: “At the Sheraton, Malcolm Searle was given privileged access for his daily 3AK bulletins. Reporting from the kitchenette of the penthouse suite, he chatted to Paul, John, and George, as Paul cooked steak and spuds for his and John’s dinner. The conversation turned playfully camp when Searle called Paul ‘a regular little housewife’ and described the gingham apron he was wearing. ‘Does he cook for you very much?’ John (indignantly): ‘Don’t say it like that, it sounds funny.’”

A conversation Hunter Davies had with McCartney in 1981, months after Lennon's murder. McCartney complained about the media's portrayal of him as inferior to Lennon and shared his hurt at comments made by friends that appeared to underline others' impression of him as insincere. McCartney was later disappointed that Davies chose to write about the conversation, which he thought was a private discussion.
[From the 1982 revised edition of The Beatles: The Authorised Biography, Hunter Davies]
It’s slightly lengthy, 3.4k words. It reminds me a bit of the Lennon Remembers interview - very insightful. It does feel like a sensitive moment in Paul’s life, he mentions hurting and feeling hurt by many people. Here’s ~200 words from it if you’re not yet sure you want to read the whole thing (or skip ahead if you are):
“No one ever goes on about the times John hurt ME… People keep on saying I hurt him, but where’s the examples, when did I do it?… It’s just always the same, blaming me…
“We were always in competition… But that was in compositions. I can’t understand why Yoko is saying [I hurt John the most]…
“Perhaps I hurt people by default…
“I was never out to screw him, never. He could be a maneuvering swine, which no one ever realized. Now since the death he’s became Martin Luther Lennon…
“We grew to be equals. It made him insecure. He always was, really…
“If we had to start listing all the times when HE hurt me….
“John and I were really Army Buddies. That’s what it was like really. I realize now we never got to the bottom of each others souls…
"I still get slagged off for it. In the history books, I’m still the one who broke up the Beatles…
“I didn’t hate John. People said to me when he said those things on his record about me, you must hate him, but I didn’t. I don’t…
“[John] could be wicked. But I’m always sensible. That’s me. I would never say the things he said…
And the entire excerpt I found:

“CAMPBELL: Do you have any spur to motivation to paint? PAUL: People who paint, including myself, get to a point where a bit of angst comes in. If you’re doing it for a living, it’s worth it to suffer those slings and arrows. If I was going to paint for my own fun, that was one thing I had to avoid. I invented these characters. One of them is Luigi. If I get to a point in a painting where I’m getting stuck, I imagine Luigi has a restaurant with a little alcove. He’s a good friend of mine. He’s always saying, ‘Paint a picture for the alcove.’ When things get tough, I say, ‘This is for Luigi. He’ll like this.’ I don’t fret it. Lo and behold, five minutes later, I’m at a new point in the painting and I got through the bad patch. Or, if I’m getting a bit stuck, I become Mr. Blendini. He enjoys blending colors. He can spend hours doing that. I’ve got Luigi and Blendini. Everyone needs friends like that. Luigi accepts everything I do. He loves it.”
— Paul McCartney, interview w/ Mary Campbell for Associated Press. (November 15th, 2000)

“Perhaps I hurt people by default. I never realized at the time John would mind [that I recorded Why Don’t We Do It in the Road without him]. At Ringo’s wedding (the previous week) Neil happened to say to me that Mimi was upset I’d never contacted her after John’s death. I’d never even thought of it. I don’t know Mimi. I probably hadn’t seen her for about twenty years, since Menlove Avenue. I was just the little kid that hung around with John. We didn’t get in her house.
“I apparently hurt George Martin by default as well. I didn’t know that till I read his book. I didn’t let him do She’s Leaving Home. I rang him up, but he was busy, couldn’t make it for two days, or two weeks or something, so i thought what the hell, if he can’t fit me in, I’ll get someone else. I was hurt at the time, which was why I got someone else. Now he says I deliberately hurt him. Well, if that’s the only hurt I’ve done him…
“At Ringo’s wedding, I happened to go to the toilet, and I met Ringo there, at the same time, just the two of us. He said there were two times in his life in which I had done him in. Then he said that he’d done himself in three times. I happened to be spitting something out, and by chance the spit fell on his jacket. I said there you go, now I’ve done you three times. We’re equal. I laughed it off. It was all affectionate. It wasn’t a row. It was slagging off. He just suddenly said it, and we moved on. But NOW, I keep thinking all the time, what are the two times that Ringo thinks I put him down…”
