Happy Gotcha Day to Jack! š§”š
One year ago today, I brought home 2-month-old baby Jack.
Jack immediately made himself at home. He was exhausted his first night and had a big appetite, which has continued to grow, just as much as he has.

Jack has been a wonderful addition to our family; he brings us so much joy and love. I could not imagine us without him.

Happy Gotcha Day, 'Little Boy' here's to many more years! š§”

On April 19th we celebrated one whole year of Jack!šš§”š
From tiny floof to full-grown heart-stealer, Jack has officially hit a milestoneāhis first birthday. He spent the day doing what he loves most: playing, napping, and soaking up all the love.

He kicked off his birthday with a surprise: a brand new cactus-themed cat tree with three tiers of climbing, lounging, and surveying his kingdom. Heās already claimed the top perch as his birthday throne.

There were new toys, tasty treats, and plenty of birthday cuddles (his favorite gift of all). Between zoomies and feather wand victories, Jack made time for a few celebratory naps, curled up in his fluffiest form.

It was the purrfect day for my boyāand I canāt wait to see what year two brings. šš§”š¾

Lounging Less, Blooming More
Soaked in Sunlight, Covered in Cat Hair
The holidays were a whirlwind of coziness, naps, and way too many treats (Jack insists thereās no such thing). We fully embraced the lounging lifestyleācurled up in blankets, basking in sunbeams, and soaking in every last bit of festive magic. Jack loved his Christmas presents (yes, the rainbow wand and mangled pieces that are left of original bunny are still in heavy rotation). He loves his new red and white Christmas bunny, although the original still stays around. I think itās safe to say he enjoyed his first holiday season.

Heās been proudly dragging one of his new favorites around, itĀ hadĀ a feather and a bell⦠you get the rest! Even when his toys are on their last legs, he still parades them around like trophies, even during spring cleaning.
And thenāit snowed. In Texas.
Just for a moment, the world outside turned white, and Jack got to experience his very first snow. He perched by the window, wide-eyed and silent, completely mesmerized by the falling flakes. He watched every flurry with twitching whiskers and a flicking tail, like the whole world had transformed just for him. It was a rare little winter wonderāgone as quickly as it came, but unforgettable all the same.

Spring Has Entered the Chat
Thatās rightāSpring Cleaning has officially commenced here at our house. Window blinds are open to welcome in the sunshine, my plants love it, but maybe not as much as Jack. He loves to laze in the windowsill and watch birds and squirrels in the backyard. Soon the windows will be open to welcome in the fresh breeze⦠Which means brushing season is in full swing. Jack is growing fluffier by the second and loving every minute of it.
Can you believe it? Jack turns ONE in just one week! My little orange boy is practically all grown upāstill full of kitten energy, but now with the floof and presence of a true royal. He is the undisputed Prince⦠though Queen Sissy still reigns supreme. Now that Jack is bigger than his big sister, their dynamic has shifted in the cutest wayātheyāre lounging near each other, playing around more and generally getting along like a true sibling duo.Ā

Hereās to springtime snoozes, sunbeams, and the countdown to Jackās first birthday! Stay tuned for celebration pics, and moreā¦Ā ššøš

Jackās First Holiday Season: From Autumn Leaves to Christmas Trees
As autumn settled in and the college football season came and went, Jack experienced his first Thanksgiving and is now eagerly awaiting his first Christmas. This season has been full of warmth, change, and lots of cozy moments with Jack at the center of it all.
Autumn Adventures
Thanksgiving brought an array of new sights, smells, and sounds. Jack curiously observed the hustle and bustle of meal preparations, his little nose twitching at the scents wafting through the air. During Michigan games, Jack would often sit by my side, perking up when we cheered, and occasionally watching the screen when something caught his eye. Every Thanksgiving night our familyās tradition is to watch the movie Christmas Vacation; Jack curled up alongside Aureous, his golden buddy. I love having our animals together with us for family time and traditions, especially it being Jackās first year. He will be 8 months old this Christmas. Heās getting fluffier by the second.

A Texas Winter Approaches
As we try to beat the heat and look forward to winter's arrival, Jack is experiencing the magic of the holiday season. I wasnāt sure how heād handle the Christmas trees. After all, Jackās playful and tactile nature (not to mention his love of climbing) seemed like a recipe for chaos. To my surprise, heās been more well-behaved. He watches the twinkling lights with wide, curious eyes, occasionally pawing at an ornament but never causing trouble.
Iām so proud of him for not attempting to climb the tree or knock it overāa real Christmas miracle! Itās clear that he finds it fascinating, but heās showing remarkable restraint for such an adventurous little guy.

A Special Gift for Jack
Jackās favorite toy since his first day home has been a small stuffed bunny that we call his 'baby'. Over time, itās been loved to piecesāquite literally. His original bunny is now just a few scraps, but it still holds a special place in his heart (and in his mouth as he trots around the house with pride).
For Christmas, I am surprising him with a brand-new bunny toy, red and white, specially themed for the holidays. I canāt wait to see his reaction. Knowing Jack, heāll grab it right away and make it his new constant companion (aka prey).

Excitement for His First Christmas
I canāt wait for Jack to enjoy his first Christmas. In addition to his new bunny, we are spoiling him with plenty of other giftsāa stocking full of treats and toys that I know heāll adore.
This season has been extra special with Jack by my side. His curiosity and joy for the little things remind me to slow down and appreciate this magical time of year. Whether heās playing with his bunny, curling up with me in a cozy blanket, or gazing at the glowing Christmas tree, Jack is making this holiday season one to remember.
Hereās to Jackās first Christmasāand many more to come. This little orange boy has brought so much joy into my life, and I canāt wait to spend our first Christmas together.
Happy Holidays!
~Jack & May

Unlikely Best Friends: The Adventures of Jack & Aureous
If someone had told me that a fluffy orange kitten and a big golden retriever would become inseparable, I might not have believed them. Yet, here we are, with Aureous and Jack proving that friendship knows no boundariesāwhether itās size, species, or expectations.
From the moment Jack entered our lives, it was clear he wasnāt going to be an ordinary kitten. Full of energy and curiosity, Jack quickly made himself at home. Aureous, being the gentle giant that he is, was immediately intrigued by this tiny ball of fluff. After some cautious sniffing and a few playful taps, their friendship blossomed.
Itās a sight to behold when they play together. Aureousās size compared to Jackās makes their play sessions even more endearing. Jack is quick, darting around, and Aureous is always careful not to be too rough. Itās as if he instinctively knows that Jack is small but mighty, and he needs to keep up with the kitten's boundless energy.
Their bond goes beyond just play. Jack has taken it upon himself to be Aureous' personal groomer! Yes, you read that rightāthis little kitten grooms his big brother like itās his job. Aureous, in all his calmness, seems to love the attention and sits patiently, enjoying the special care. Itās these quiet moments that truly show the depth of their friendship.
Cuddling is another area where their connection shines. Watching them snuggle up together is heart-melting. Jack, in typical cat fashion, loves to drape himself over Aureous, and Aureous doesn't mind one bit. Whether it's curling up together for naps or Aureous acting as Jackās personal pillow, their bond is undeniable.
Iāve captured some of these sweet moments in photos that I canāt wait to share. Whether they're playing, grooming, or just being their goofy selves, these two have a connection that brightens up every day. Stay tuned for more adventures of my dynamic duo!

Meet Jack
Part Two: The Journey to Jack
When I introduced Jack to the world in my last post, I didnāt mention how long I had been waiting for himāa little over five years, to be exact. But I think what makes this story even more special is the journey that brought Jack into my life, and how it feels like he was meant to be here all along.

For years, I imagined my home with a fluffy orange boy cat named Jack.Ā I could picture him in my mindācurled up next to me on my pillow, chasing toys around the living room, and soaking up the sunlight in a cozy corner.Ā I imagined him so vividly that sometimes it felt as if he had already entered my life.Ā Every orange cat I saw I thought may be My Jack. An adult male orange cat was laying in the tree in my backyard for a few days, months before we found out about Jack. I often wondered when I would find him. However, it took time before the right moment arrived.
Enter Ellie, a stray Mackerel Tabby rescued by my aunts.Ā Although they weren't aware of her pregnancy, my aunts took her in and provided her with a safe place where she gave birth to her kittens. I told my aunts to keep me posted, and let me know if they end up with an orange boy. I still remember the day they told me they had two!Ā Ellie gave birth to four adorable kittens, and my aunts did an amazing job as foster parents caringĀ for them fromĀ the very beginning.
They chose the cutest matching foster names: Sonny, Cher, Edward, and Bella. As you might have guessed, Jack, my little ball of sunshine, was originally known as Sonny. I remember seeing photos and videos of these tiny kittens as they grew, and something about Sonny just clicked with me. Maybe it was his cuteness, his curious expression, or perhaps that hint of orange and fluffiness that reminded me of the Jack I had been wishing for all these years.

When the time came to consider adopting one of the kittens, I knew that Sonny was meant to be my Jack. I walked into the room they were in for the first time and opened the door. Jack was the only one to pop his head up from the slumbering cuddle pile, open his sleepy eyes and let out the loudest yet tiniest, sweetest, little meow. I knew he was my Jack right then. It felt like all the years of waiting had led to this moment. I couldnāt be more grateful to my aunts for the love and care they provided to Jack and his siblings, setting the foundation for the wonderful kitten he is today.

Now that Jack is here, every day feels like a dream come true. He's everything I imagined and moreāplayful, affectionate, and full of personality. And knowing that he came from such a loving start in life makes our bond even stronger.
In the next part of our journey together, I'll share more about Jack's quirks, the story behind his name, his favorite toys, and how he's settling into his forever home.
Stay tuned and stay Pawsitveš§”šš¾
