Profiles in Villainy
The Ice King
Prior to the great Mushroom War that decimated the planet, Simon Petricov had been a young man studying to become an expert antiquarian. In his travels to hone his craft, Petricov came across an ancient and powerful artifact resembling a kingly crown. Placing the crown atop his head bestowed the young man incredible powers, making him immortal and granting vast, ice-based abilities. The power of this crown also drove Petricov insane, gradually causing him to lose his memories and replacing his kindly personality with that of a cruel and twisted despot.
Petricov managed to survive the Mushroom War and he came to look after a young girl named Marceline. He treated the girl as a daughter and together the two were able to eke out a meager life in the post-apocalyptic wasteland left by the war. As time went on however, the effect of the crown further drove Petricov mad. He forgot about Marceline and became a hermit in the icy mountains.
He renamed himself The Ice King and became a renown villain of the new civilization that rose up in the wake of the war. Missing his wife and his precious Marceline (yet not knowing why), The Ice King hatched multiple plots to abduct Princess Bubblegum. His schemes were thwarted by the heroic Finn the Human and his companion Jake the Dog.
Marceline also survived, becoming a type of vampire. Long term use of the crown had altered Petricov’s appearance as well as his mind and she did not known the terrible Ice King had once been the kindly professor who had cared for her in the past.

These truths eventually came to light and Marceline and Finn worked together to get the crown away from The Ice King and help him revert to his former self. They ultimately succeeded and a remorseful Petricov was disabused of the crown’s corruptive powers. Yet the crown ended up in the clutches of The Ice King’s former minion, Gunter the Penguin, who appears destined to become the new dreaded Ice King.
Actor Tom Kenny provides the voice for The Ice King with the villain first appearing in the pilot episode of Adventure Time, airing on April 5th, 2010.

Death's End
Just finished reading this awesome sci-fi series. Personally, I found the characters often rather flat and replaceable, but the overall story is absolutely amazing and the main driving force of these books. Incredible sci-fi.
