(1991) Salamander
it's a konami shmup. it kinda can't help but rule.
apparently it's a spinoff of gradius and it sounds like it. See stage 5.
good.

(1992) Samurai-Ghost
consistently tense! like a "boss-incoming" kind of vibe!
i guess it checks out tho. ghosts.
"Ingame 3" hits hardest imo. great use of the psg in that intro!

(1991) Sangokushi: Eiketsu Tenka ni Nozomu
oops all jingles
the first track is actually song-length. the title theme i presume?
it's fine. oriental without feeling like an oriental cliche

(1993) Sangokushi III
psg orchestral and redbook... how do i describe this. it's orchestral in style but the timbres are wacky.
its p good for orchestral stuff.
prolly not directly related to the soundtrack but this is a rare VGZ rip instead of HES. and coincidentially, it's the first time ive noticed EXTREME aliasing in these chiptunes. is that a format issue or what? anyway.
i am pretty sure "Karyuu Remains in Obscurity (National Power 3)" is a recurring theme but i love it here.
"Numerical Inferiority" rocks as a battle tune. frankly "Lurking Jiaolong" is just a late 80s pop jam.
overall feeling of "this is pretty good" despite me not really keeping many tunes.

(1991) Seirei Senshi Spriggan
a lot of battle tunes that dont do much for me. "Act 3 (Tokyo)" stands out for being kinda wacky in a boss mode way, albeit in a way that overstays its welcome somewhat.
"Act 2-1 (Sendai 1)" stands out for being more... poppy?
overall it's a nonstop big loud hi-energy thing that i dont particularly enjoy

(1991) Seiryuu Densetsu Monbit
its an alrite rpg-ey sountracky.
starting out great with some grooves in BGM 02
fun hometown vibes with BGM 08
love the rhythms in BGM 20!
closing out with a beautifully happy credits endroll sounding BGM 33 is a delight

(1994) Seisenshi Denshou: Jantaku no Kishi
i kinda love the battle tunes here. stuff like "NBCD4005_11". it's a rockin beat but it still feels... SC55 lol
"NBCD4005_16" brings the funk! or at least the cowbell!
overall it's a tick above alright

(1995) Seiya Monogatari: Anearth Fantasy Stories
alrite psg orchestral. and redbook orchestral. even if im not really into it, i have to admit it's p good at what it aims to be. see: "Heresy".
but there's also some stuff that speaks to me a bit more, like whatever tf is going on in "Abyss".
the best intersection of "representative of the style" and "i like it" is prolly "Forest"

(1990) Sekigahara
i think this falls under psg orchestral? it's a pretty good swing at the style
"Music 05" is simply beautiful!

(1988) Sengoku Mahjong
"Mode Select" is one of the more interesting psg koto tracks ive heard. not... to my taste tho.
"Melody 2" is more like what you're expecting to hear.
overall it's. fine.

NBCD4006_20 as well!
i cant resist.... cowbell (NBCD4006_11)
admiration for the lush NBCD4006_24.
one last shoutout to the beutiful vibe of NBCD4006_27

"NBCD4007_10" discooooooo...... well, mostly? it's got some great funk ok
"NBCD4007_11" is basically new jack swing. rules
there's a few more tracks in that vein, plus some bossa type stuff.
odd standout besides the above: "NBCD4007_23". happy hometown type tune

(1993) Sexy Idol Mahjong
how so smoov lounge???
"NBCD3004_07" dem chords...
there's also a lot of swingy funky stuff, like "NBCD3004_11", each hit of the cowbell tilting my opinion further upward.
actually the further i get in here the more delicious it is. actual fusuon tunes. yeah im giving this a rec

(1992) Shadow of the Beast
this is based on the amiga version which i am only vaguely familiar with.
"Eerie Forests" is funny to me because it's like... synthwave but without flanderization?? of the era. and it's lovely.
overall, it's filled with a driving beat that keeps things moving and banging in a lovely way.
personal highlight is "The Plains 1". every element slides together beautifully.

(1996) Shanghai: Banri no Choujou
ok so apparently at least a few of these have titles that are shared with the 3DO version, but i can only ascertain two of them based on youtube uploads...
anyway
this is... yeah you guessed it. oriental etc etc.
it is also shockingly plinky despite being redbook.
it's fine.

(1987) Shanghai
ready for another round of oriental riffs? wait wtf. "Melody 2" is just a megaman song. this rules???
"Melody 3" sounds like a C64 song that's too white boy to be funky but still slaps, and is a fun take on the oriental "flavor" without being just cliches. this rules
ok i might have been worn down by listening to Shanghai 2 first but. still! this is good tbh!!
