halting her response, she exhales shakily at the reality in melonie's words. " listen... i just need you to trust me. it won't be long i promise. i just don't know who else to turn to. " with vulnerability lacing her tone, she lets silent tears well up her bloodshot eyes.
‟ which one is it janae ? one or two ? cause last time you asked to stay for a day or two , you stayed for three months and i had to bail you out of jail. ”

at the mention of things not working out, jabari's eyes grew wider in response. he was willing to prove genevieve wrong once and for all. "i'm hearing you, but i need you to give us a chance. i'm ready to settle down and i know i can be the husband material type for you. the last thing i'm trying to do is leave you broken-hearted." with intention lacing his tone, he smiles softly at the woman he's had a crush on for years. jabari was the type to leave women wanting more, never quite opening up completely—nobody was to see him vulernable. giving her little time to respond, he quickly gathers his thoughts to add to his promise. "i tell you what... have dinner with me and if you feel like this thing between us isn't going to work, i'll eat my words and take back my proposal. i'll happily die the lonley bachelor who always talks about the one who got away if that's what you really want. "
both of them having unsuccessful relationships could really mean one thing from the universe: they were meant to be together. it made genevieve want to laugh, and maybe question it some more. but jabari was right. the pair were in two different places in their lives. after he spoke his words, the law professor didn't know what to say. risks weren't something the femme took, but she also wasn't super stern or serious to begin with. relationships, however, were a different story. and like jabari said, they weren't getting any younger and gen wasn't sure either that she was ready to take another leap of faith. the woman sighed softly. " i don't know, j. i mean, you know how much i love you and care for you. i don't know if im ready to put my all in it with you and then have it not work. like you said, we're not getting any younger but im also not ready for another heartbreak. i can't go through that again."

while rolling her eyes at the comment made by nora, asha sighs in defeat. "i could have kept this to myself and buried this whole thing, but i wanted to tell you. i needed to tell you. you deserve to know the truth." not that her sentiment made anything better, but at this point, the only thing she could do was be honest.
"i'm running out of chances to give you here." nora adverted her gaze, speaking in a quiet voice. "what's that phrase? 'fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me. fool me three times, i'm out of fucking chances.'"

watching his actions closely, she makes it a point to study his body language. as the bartender tops off his drink, she shifts her posture to lean into the awkward space being created between them. "no, actually...i just needed a stiff drink." with a trailing response, she bears a half smile. "are you good ? i feel like i haven't seen you in forever—what's got you 'drowning in your sorrows?'"
continued from here for @pcthole
the woman wasn't wrong in that he needed some company, but malachi never found it easy to ask such a feat. heaving a sigh, the man motioned for the bartender to top off his glass once more. glancing towards his company, he avoided eye contact as he spoke to her again, "you come to drown your sorrows, too?" the man inquired considering it'd been some time since he spoke to her last.

asha can never seem to get it right. in all honesty, this was the first relationship in years that tested her character. everyday with maeve, she strived to be better—a better version of herself for the sake of their bond. maeve challenged her in ways that pushed her out of her element and that was one of the many reasons she fell in love with the other. she refused to throw it away now. "YES. i mean NO. fuck, maeve. i don't know." with a huff leaving her lips, she rises from her place on the seat next them. "look. i just need you to trust me. you have to trust me. i haven't fucked anyone else since we've been together and i didn't plan on it this time—but i need you to understand that i'd lose my fucking mind if you left me over this shit. we've built too much, we've got this crazy thing that just works. baby, we just work. i won't let this ruin that. " rambling about, she paces in front of maeve. running her fingers over her slicked back ponytail. asha was aware that this wasn't easy for her partner, but her ego wouldn't let her current feelings be downplayed.. no matter how in the wrong she was.
maeve can feel the guilt emanating from the other but it’s hard to sympathize when they’re filled with rage to the brim and feeling betrayed. it’s not something they’d ever think would happen between them, especially since their relationship seemed to be headed somewhere nice, somewhere stable. “and fuckin’ her helped you get closure?” a humorless laugh follows. “do you even realize how you sound right now? you wanna talk this out? well, fuck, then stop blamin’ this on outer forces when we both know you’re an adult that can make your own decisions.” she takes a deep breath. “look, i do love you but you’ve broken my heart. how can i ever be sure that this won’t happen again? this isn’t something we can just bounce from that easy.”

with asha's eyes now diverting from maeve's and onto the ground , she swallows harshly at the realization that she might not be able to fix her mess this time. "no you don't look stupid—" she whispers, sliding her words under theirs like an afterthought. "listen. i get it. i get it, but let me at least explain. me and her never got closure and seeing her again was like opening a fucking wound, maeve. i don't even know how to explain it, it happened so fast and i literally felt like i wasn't even in control. you know i love you and that night meant absolutely nothing to me. she means nothing to me."
it’s a hard decision to make — forgiveness or punishment. would maeve be able to take someone back in after being cheated on or would they leave without the constant thought that it could happen again? “no, you look at me. do i look stupid to you? because that’s how you’re making me feel right now.” their words are spat out in disgust. “fuck you, asha. i fucking love you and you betray me like this, only to feel regret later? please, you didn’t forget to take out the trash, you slept with someone else. that isn’t a simple mistake.”
