Jennifer badly needs to sit down and discuss feminism, and the effect of movies revolving so strongly around the male gaze.  Maybe someone should recommend reading the First Book in The Hunger Games, especially the section where Katniss is taken back to Base 1 by the stylists, stripped naked, buffed and polished, dressed in whatever the stylist wants, for the amusement of the capitol, with absolutely no reference to her wishes at all!
Jennifer also seems to have no idea at all about the effect and idea of ME TOO.  and solidarity with other women.  Whatever her own personal opinion of this photo, of her in a skimpy gown in freezing cold conditions, while her male co stars are wrapped up warmly, she is rich and supposedly powerful enough, to be in a position of choice.  What about hundreds of other young girls trying to make a break in the business?  If Jennifer lawrence is happy to appear like this, How many other young girls will feel obliged to follow suit, appear in this kind of way. and freeze and be exploited for their art!
Jennifer Lawrence has hit out at feminist campaigners who criticised her for wearing a revealing dress in the cold London air, calling them “ridiculous”.
The actress defended her right to wear a skimpy Versace dress as she stood next to men, who were all wearing jackets.
Writer Helen Lewis attracted thousands of retweets when she wrote: “This is such a quietly depressing (and revealing) image. Not least because I’ve been outside today and it’s b—– FREEZING.”

Lord. Where to begin with this?
There’s a real problem coming for Jen with Red Sparrow and she and her team are trying to get ahead of it and failing miserably.
You see, Jen needs to desperately come across as an empowered woman who is comfortable with her sexuality and at ease with the nudity she shows in this movie. You already are hearing about how this is a feminist movie!  It’s empowering because her character fights back!
Wrong!
This is yet another movie that has Jennifer playing a victimized woman who is abused and manipulated and violated by men in control. This is the third movie in a row that has Jen at the mercy of a man and his actions - Passengers, mother! and now Red Sparrow.
And from what I’ve read, this movie has a lot of sexually violent scenes and seems to be exploitive of Jen and her body. I say seem because I haven’t seen RS yet and was holding off saying anything definitively until then.
But I’m saying something now because I want to point out how Jen and her team are trying to blunt that message BEFORE the movie gets widely seen. Jen has talked about how validating it was to choose to be naked in her movie, she’s worn a lot of sexy outfits and has looked gorgeous and in control and now, when people rightly criticized how she was left to freeze while her male colleagues were dressed for winter, her people hit back with a post about how ludicrous the criticisms are and that Jen loves fashion and decides what to wear, when to wear it and how to wear it!  FALSE, FALSE AND FALSE. But it won’t do to have people think Jen isn’t in control.
Things are not going to go well for this movie when it’s widely seen. Expect articles about another exploitive movie. Expect Jen to be the poster child of playing victimized women. It doesn’t matter that Dominika kicks ass. She gets  put through hell and back and it’s graphically depicted for all to see.
Take a break, Jen.  And get your people to choose better movies to present to you.

For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dared to speak truth to the power of those men. But their time is up. Their time is up. Their time is up.

Tumblr doesn’t care about Net Neutrality anymore.
Let’s take a look at some screenshots of an article I was reading earlier today…
Tumblr media
Keyword: was. They don’t support net neutrality anymore. Why you ask? well…
Tumblr media
Tumblr is owned by Yahoo. Now that Verizon (a company that hates net neutrality) bought Yahoo, they have demanded that Tumblr must stop supporting net neutrality too. The Tumblr staff has stopped posting about net neutrality.
This site is being forced to hate net neutrality. (article link)

Best wishes to Harry and Meghan, I love a good romance.
My only issue is that Harry is only a prince by  the lucky accident of his birth, into one of the richest families in Britain. How can Great Britain in the 21st century still claim to be both a democracy and an autocratic monarchy?  It is such a weird anachronism.

This is so scary.   It sounds like fiction or a script from a movie.  Its not good that its actually a real scenario.
In the fall of 2016, Harvey Weinstein set out to suppress allegations that he had sexually harassed or assaulted numerous women. He began to hire private security agencies to collect information on the women and the journalists trying to expose the allegations. According to dozens of pages of documents, and seven people directly involved in the effort, the firms that Weinstein hired included Kroll, which is one of the world’s largest corporate-intelligence companies, and Black Cube, an enterprise run largely by former officers of Mossad and other Israeli intelligence agencies.
Two private investigators from Black Cube, using false identities, met with the actress Rose McGowan, who eventually publicly accused Weinstein of rape, to extract information from her. One of the investigators pretended to be a women’s-rights advocate and secretly recorded at least four meetings with McGowan. The same operative, using a different false identity and implying that she had an allegation against Weinstein, met twice with a journalist to find out which women were talking to the press. In other cases, journalists directed by Weinstein or the private investigators interviewed women and reported back the details.
Harvey Weinstein hired people to befriend and spy on Rose McGowan to secure information from her, employed the editor of the National Enquirer to dig up dirt on potential accusers, and threatened reporters AND their family members to try to kill stories about him. For more than a year, Weinstein terrorized anyone who could expose his activities and employed various agencies to discredit people seeking to reveal the truth.

There is a fascinating long  recentl article by Britt Marling, where she talks about her meeting with Weinstein, & discusses how little power women have in these interactions, as traditionally its the men who have the power!
Darren Aronofsky’s mother!, a psychological horror film starring Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem, has split audiences and critics alike this year. Some described it as a “sadistic spectacle,” while others, like Martin Scorsese, defended it as a work of true passion. In a New York Times piece profiling the director and his stars, a subtitle asks: “Is it the most confusing movie of 2017 or merely the most provocative?”
One thing that certainly emerges from Melena Ryzik’s profile is that Aronofsky, who has been called “Hollywood’s most ambitious director” and lists Kubrick’s films among his favorites, asked a great deal of Lawrence as an actress. At one point, she “hyperventilated, tore her diaphragm and had to be taken to the infirmary” while filming; Aronofsky not only kept the footage of Lawrence’s “breakdown” in the movie, but made her shoot the scene again “because we hadn’t quite gotten it yet.” Ryzik notes that the actress and the director are now dating (saying Aronofsky “bristled at the suggestion that the screen dynamic might be perceived as mirroring that of auteur and megastar in real life”) but her piece also describes what Bardem sees as the key to the chemistry between the duo on set: “She can telegraph pain on screen without needing hurt in real life; he can depict psychosis and remain steady himself.”
Though Aronofsky did not veer into clear harassment of his actress, this dichotomy echoes the underlying sentiment behind the incidents of abuse during the filming of Dancer in the Dark and The Shining, and how they were received by the press — the idea that, ultimately, creating these traumatic conditions was within the rights of the director-as-demi-god, and worth it given the art which emerged. “It’s unlike any performance I’ve captured before,” Aronofsky says of the scene that so deeply rattled Lawrence. But it’s hard to imagine the same scene, the same description from Bardem, or the same reaction to mother! overall if Aronofsky were a director of a different gender and race.
How often do women get to explore their “psychosis” on the big screen by inflicting pain on men? How often do men like Martin Scorsese write op-eds defending films in which people of other genders torture straight cis men? Moreover, could a black woman director express anger at her stars, like Kubrick and Von Trier, and still retain her stature? Will a black woman ever have the freedom and studio support to make an allegorical film about her artistic anxiety, let alone release it in theaters nationwide?
Thorough examination of the abuses actresses have withstood at the hands of “visionary directors.”

I don’t know if it’s “starting” for Russell or if someone just has a bone to pick with the asshole but this is a must read.
DOR is an abusive asshole and it’s about time people start calling him for what he is.
