i've been working extra time these past 2 weeks and doing basically half days on even my days off recently so i haven't really had the time/energy for any muse or writing or replying to messages sorry. i miss you all and i hope everyone is doing well!!!🫂🫂you should tell me one fun thing that has happened in your life or on the dash recently!

"ohh. . ." he's at a loss for what else to say. this woman is so, stoic? disinterested? flat? "okay." the word falls flat between them. "that's good." he can't remember a time in his life when he's ever felt this dumb — one of the most beautiful women he's ever seen, and she's kind of looking at him like maybe he's the same as the dirt on the ground. ( and not even in a bad way, the way women usually do. somehow she manages to make any reaction she may have to his fumbling seem completely indifferent. ) still, he's dove and that means he has a job to do. "still, let's get you away from this mess. maybe the emts would like to check on you, anyway." giving his best i'm kind and authoritative like superman impression, he actually makes a pretty good recovery if you ask him, hopeful and obliging smile replacing his stilted reactions.

"OH." if there is any concern, her face gives nothing away. she's seen worse, but that seems like the wrong thing to say. "i'm not injured." the noise was the worst of it, but she'll move past that quickly. "i'm not traumatized or anything either. i'll be fine."

"now?"   don scratches at the back of his neck, awkward and unsure. now hank is out there without him—a hawk with no dove. a hawk who, maybe, doesn't need a dove.

don had come back to a brother vastly different from the one he knew before. he's let some lessons past that thick skull of his and opened himself up to the idea that punching first and asking questions later isn't always what's needed. he's still— hank. he rushes in too early, and he's abrasive, and trying to reason a stick of dynamite into not exploding: no use and if you wait around to long you might be the one he explodes at. still, he's learned.that's what don wants to do. he's sitting here with all these ideas in his head and no clue what they mean or how to express them. which had always been his problem. what good is a talker if he doesn't know what to say?   "now i. . . think i want to go back to school."    the idea comes on slowly, how nice it would be to re-enroll, to return to the world in the way that had always been most comfortable to him, to learn what it really means to be both peaceful and a force for change.   "my only options don't have to be sit here or go fight, i guess. there's other things."

bob, with eyes set on don, waits for an answer about as patiently as anyone on the edge of their seat suddenly faced with a cliffhanger. he can't stop himself from blurting out a curious and maybe rather desperate, " and now? " because just as bob's been waiting for the day he's able to pull himself out from the lounging chair, he's watched don struggle with a similar fate. but don's not like bob -- don's a hero. don's gotten up so many times before, he has to have, and if he can't now... maybe it's too simple and too much pressure to put on the other man, for bob to measure himself up against him, but he can't stop himself. he looks to don for an answer, for some proof of concept -- can he get up too?

"there was just the whole," he gestures silently at the situation around them, trying to sum up the whole building collapse in the waving of his arm, "situation. i didn't mean anything by it." he blinks back at her. "i'm fine. you didn't hit your head or anything did you?"

WHAT A WEIRD QUESTION. "do i not seem alright?" she says this like it's an accusation of some kind. silent, blinking. still deadpan. "are you not alright or something? was i supposed to ask?"
