A/N- Hi! So this is my first time writing anything like this, so I’m sorry if it sucks (and for spelling/grammar issues), but I want to practice some writing. I use to write on fanfiction.net ages ago, so I know I am a little rusty. I guess what I’m trying to say is, please send me requests, so I can practice writing. :) have a nice day.
You practically fell headfirst into your apartment as you struggled to get your suitcase through the door. You were just returning from three weeks of visiting your family and you were completely exhausted. You loved your family, of course, but you were more than happy to back at your own apartment.
“y/n?” A voice cut through the silent static air that you were so used to in your apartment.
Your eyes widened as you jerked your head towards the sound. “Shit, Todd,” you said sighing in relief when you recognized his familiar form slumped onto your couch, “you scared the crap outta me. What are you even doing here?”
Since you knew you would be away for a while, you had asked your group of friends if somebody would be willing to stop by your place to water your plants and take in your mail. Todd had been the one to volunteer, but you were not expecting him to hang around your place for longer than he needed to.
“You wanted me to get your mail.” He replied placing a wine glass on the coffee table.
“Well, yeah, but I thought you’d stop by in the afternoon not eleven o’clock at night.” You said as you kicked your suitcase out of the way of the door. “Not that I mind. Are you seriously drinking my cheap ass wine?”
“Yeah, it’s all you had.” He replied with a shrug, “I thought you weren’t going to be back until tomorrow.”
“I came back early. I guess I missed it here more than I thought I would.”
“I missed you more than I thought I would.” He mumbled and looked down at his hands.
“Aww, Toddy, I missed you too.” You couldn’t help the smile that was forming as you walked over to him acting on your urge to ruffle his messy hair.
“I’m serious.” He said with a furrowed brow and halfheartedly swatted your hand away.
“I can see that.” You laughed, “how much have you had to drink?”
“Not enough, apparently.” He said as he grabbed his glass and downed the rest of the wine.
“Are you okay?” You took the glass from him suddenly becoming concerned about his emotional state. “Why are you drinking alone in my apartment on a Thursday?”
“I’m drinking about you.”
“What does that even mean?” You squinted your eyes at him. “What’s wrong?”
“Maybe I need another glass,” Todd said as he began to get up, but you quickly closed the distance between you and him and pushed him back onto the couch.
“Nuh-uh,” you said and took a seat next to him on the couch. “I’m not sure what’s going on with you right now, but I do know that more alcohol is not going to fix it.”
“You don’t know what you’re talking about.” He said as he ran a hand through his hair.
“You’re right, so please, fill me in.”
“I like you.” He said without even looking at you.
Todd was drunk which was only going to make this conversation difficult for you. “Yeah, I like you too, that’s why I’m trying to figure out what’s wrong.” You said trying to guide him back to the topic at hand.
Todd only groaned in response and collapsed back into the couch covering his face with his hands.
“Seriously what is going on? Does this have something to do with a girl?” You knew Todd had been single for a while, or at least if he was seeing anybody he never told you about it, so maybe he was having trouble with the ladies. But that seemed very unlikely to you.
“Yes!” Todd practically shouted and sat up so quickly you jumped back a bit in shock.
“Okay, so does she not like you or something?” You asked fighting the feeling of jealousy that was forming in the pit of your stomach.
“I have no idea.”
“Well, have you told her how you feel?”
“Oh jeez, y/n.” He said as he ran his hand over his face.
“What?” You asked softly as you pulled his hand off his face. “Toddy, I’m just trying to help. You can tell me anything, you know?” You didn’t let go of his hand in hopes that it would make him feel more comfortable, so he’d confide in you. You were still unsure of what was upsetting him, and maybe you were a little nervous that he’d fallen in love with some other girl, but you always wanted Todd to be happy. Even if it wasn’t with you.
“So, you're just being nice?” Todd asked as he stared at your hand that was resting on his.
“What? Of course I’m being nice, but if you’re asking if I genuinely care about you and what’s going on with you the answer is yes. It’s always a yes.”
“So, you’re trying to be a good friend?”
“Shit Todd.” You sighed as you pulled your hand off of his. You buried your face in both of your hands. “If you don’t tell me what’s going on right now, I swear I’m gonna kill you.”
“I like you.”
“Yes,” you said with a sigh as you looked up at him with pleading eyes, “we’ve covered that. Now would you – “
“That’s it! That is literally it.”
“What’s it?” You asked confused. You were starting to get exasperated with this whole conversation.
“Seriously y/n?” Todd groaned. “I like you. I don’t know how you want me to say it so it’ll make sense to you, but I like you. I think about you all the time, and what it would be like to take you out, and what it would be like to hold you, and what it would be like to go home with you at the end of the night. Why do you think I was so happy to watch your place while you were gone? Cause I like you and I’d do anything to help you out.”
“Oh.” You mumbled taking a moment to let everything settle in. Of course, you had a crush on Todd, but who didn’t. You always assumed it would go away eventually so you just pushed your feelings aside and never let yourself think about him in any other way besides your friend. “Oh.”
“You’ve got to say something before I go insane.”
“Todd, I literally had no idea.”
“Yeah, I noticed.”
“Oh.” You repeated. You were really trying to get a grip on the situation, but your brain felt like it was misfiring.
“It’s okay, really. No big deal.”
You looked up at Todd for the first time since he’d confessed to you and you saw how upset he looked. At that moment it was like everything was clicking into place, and he thought we were rejecting him. Just the thought of that made your heart break.
“Oh no I’m not- I just- I think we’ve established it takes me a while to catch on.”
“It’s really fine. Please don’t be nice to me right now, it’s just going to make it worse. In fact, I should probably just go.”
Panic was starting to set in as you saw him make a move to leave. Too frazzled to get any words out you threw your leg over him, so you were straddling him. You cupped either side of his face and rested your forehead against his.
“I like you too, Todd,” you whispered. “I’m sorry I was too stupid not to realize it sooner.” You pulled away so you could see his face and you were met with his massive smile, which made your heart melt.
“You mean that?” He asked as he circled his hands around your forearms.
“Of course.” You smiled back at him. Being this close to his face was making you nervous, suddenly you were seeing all the details that made him, well, him. It was getting a little overwhelming. Your brain was already mush and this close proximity was only making it worse.
“Thank fuck.” Todd let a breath of relief out.
You busted out into laughter as you tumbled off of him and back onto the couch, needing an excuse to create some distance between you and him.
“Hey, I’m serious. I thought you were going to say no for a second.”
You rolled your eyes and stretched your legs out over his not willing to give up all contact with him. “Like anybody would say no to you.”
“It has definitely happened.” He said resting his hand on your leg and started drawing little circles with his thumb on your skin.
With the flood of relief and a feeling of happiness settling in your chest, the nagging feeling of exhaustion came back. With everything that had happened you had forgotten how tired you were from traveling. Of course, you didn’t want to go to bed just yet, but your body was screaming at you to go to sleep.
“So, I was thinking,” you started picking at an imaginary thread on your shirt. “Since it’s almost midnight and you’re drunk on my cheap wine, you should probably just spend the night here.”
“Oh yeah?” You did not even have to look up at him to know he was smirking like an idiot.
“I mean, it just makes sense. That is if you want to.”
“I guess that depends. Am I sleeping on the couch?”
“Well,” you felt your cheeks heat up, “I mean you can sleep in my bed. It would be rude to ask a guest to sleep on the couch.”
“Right,” he nodded. “So, does that mean you are sleeping on the couch then?”
“Well, my couch isn’t very comfortable.”
“So, what you are saying is, we’re both going to sleep in your bed.”
“I guess.” You said with a shrug still unable to look him in the eye.
Todd smiled and gently pushed your legs off of his lap and crawled over to you, holding himself up over you, so you had no option but to look him in the eyes. Your breath hitched and heart stuttered when your eyes met his.
“Yeah?” He said softly.
“Yeah.” You managed to say but it was practically inaudible. Then he leaned in and kissed you. He wasn’t even holding or touching you, just leaning in and kissing you. He smelled like summer, and you didn’t want it to end, but raised his head just enough to kiss your forehead before pulling away completely. You blushed hoping he wouldn’t be able to hear the way your heart was stammering in your chest.
Todd moved a strand of your hair behind your ear. “Let’s get you to bed. You’ve had a long day.”
You nodded as he stood and offered you a hand to help you up, which you took. He never let go as he led you back to your bedroom. Finally, gaining the ability to speak again you said, “and when I said sleep, I meant it.” You were starting to worry that he might have been expecting more, and you just weren’t ready for that yet. You didn’t want to screw this one up.
“I know, but I’m going to have to sleep in my underwear.”
You blushed and he smiled.
