you go through a swamp and hear strange noises, something is watching you in the distance, there's a lot of dead banished here and... it's a friendly elite who broke out of a banished camp!

you see banished running from a swarm of gunfire in a dark forerunner structure, you chase the source after finding many dead banished and find... an odst squad!

you walk into an old and run down forerunner lab, it's mostly empty except for a lot of banished bodies... and then the bodies start moving.

like with fake outs it would mess with the expectations of old fans who expect the flood all the time, and get new fans by having it be something fucked up they don't understand

i love how this is phrased like a commercial trying to sell me on the concept of bait-and-switch in storytelling
