“My favourite thing was a bunch of people made a giant sign that said “How am I going to be an octopus about this?” and held it up during Pompeii at all the right times and it distracted me enough to sing “octopus” instead by accident.”

It’s either short-sighted or straight-up malicious to pretend that satire or solidarity is more dangerous than the literal genocide Netanyahu and the IDF are carrying out in Gaza.
When people criticise the IDF for murdering tens of thousands of children—murders we’re watching unfold in real time while being told not to care—and the media gaslights us into indifference towards Palestinian suffering… what do you think that achieves? Other than looking like blatant propaganda?
All Starmer and the BBC are really achieving by censoring Kneecap is pushing people off the fence. And now, as the media try to drag Bob Vylan into the same witch hunt, notice how carefully they’ll choose their words to avoid stating the obvious: the Israeli government is committing a genocide in Gaza. Genocide as defined by the UN. As acknowledged by Amnesty International. And even former Israeli leaders are starting to say it out loud.
Ehud Olmert, Israel’s former Prime Minister, now says Gaza is enduring a “war of devastation” with “indiscriminate, limitless, cruel and criminal killing of civilians". Former Defence Minister Moshe Ya’alon has called the forced depopulation of Palestinian areas “ethnic cleansing". And Bezalel Smotrich, a current Israeli minister, said the quiet part out loud—calling for Gaza to be “totally destroyed” and Palestinians “removed… in great numbers to third countries.” Otherwise known as ethnic cleansing.
If you’re sick of how the ‘discourse’ is playing out—if you’re worried satire or public anger might start getting a bit ugly—here’s a thought: demanding that all countries are held to international law would be a good place to start.
Banning an Irish rap group from public platforms? Should probably be a bit lower on your fucking list.
#i'd never heard of kneecap before glastonbury tbh#it's a little bit of a streisand effect for them and bob vylan after all of this#imagine my surprise when i googled kneecap and found out they were irish#(i'm not surprised at all)

If you are making calls to Republican politicians about not supporting certain bills, remember to stick to Republican scripts. No trying to play on their emotions. Don't talk about people dying or marginalized people being hurt or anything like that. That doesn't work on them.
Instead, focus on:
Cost. These Republican bills have MASSIVE costs that either tax payers take the brunt of or it goes into the national debt.
Withholding your vote. You weren't going to vote for them anyway, but they have absolutely no way of knowing that. Even if you've said in other places, they are not researching every single person who calls to see who's a Republican. You're just another constituent using your vote as leverage. Take advantage of that.
Hard-working Americans/working class Americans/veterans/etc. Figure out the specific group of people that politician campaigns the hardest to and talk about them and how they'll be hurt by whatever is happening.
Trump's stupid fucking bill isn't cruel and evil and it's not going to kill millions of people, it's a huge financial strain that will drastically increase the national debt while hurting working class Americans who just need a bit of help and you would never consider voting for someone who would support it.
#us politics#though this is a handy tool for everyone!#remember to interact with your rep on their level#use their own talking points back at them
