my ideal dream smp modern au is one where Tommy is the protagonist and the narrative acts like he’s the most important one but everyone else is CLEARLY more interesting and are constantly getting up to other stuff, but Tommy’s super oblivious

like it’s just tommy walking around doing the most boring stuff (going to school, doing his homework) and talking about everyone like theyre incredibly normal while they have poorly disguised secrets. Wilbur is a mermaid. technoblade is a magical girl. tubbo works as a mad scientist for the CIA. dream is fighting supernatural creatures at night. gnf is a Hannah Montana esque popstar. ranboo isn’t sure what he’s doing, but he’s definitely doing something.

and then they come hang out with Tommy and he’s like ‘Wilbur the most interesting thing about you is the fact that you can sing’ and then wilbur, who’s been a literal fish all day is like ‘yup that sounds right’

none of them can figure out if actually he knows or not. there’s a betting pool going on whether not he’s pretending in order to give them some semblance of normalcy. he isn’t, he just hasn’t noticed that somethings up

Anyone who says they’ve never held bigoted beliefs is 100% a liar. We get older and we learn better and we grow more understanding of the world around us. Social justice is not a contest of perfection. It’s a process of growth. That has been completely lost on this community in the past two years.

Technoblade being lighthearted and jokey is fine. Just that - completely disconnected from his actual character journey - is totally okay.

Be lighthearted in a lighthearted storyline. Hang out with the Syndicate and have little, lighthearted missions. I'd like that. I've been clamoring for that.

Join the L'Sandberg conflict. That's very silly and Techno and his metajokes would fit right in.

The prison-storyline isn't just about Technoblade. It didn't start with Technoblade. It started with Sam, Tommy, Dream & later Quackity.

It is extremely dark. It explores very heavy subjects such as abuse, torture, the immorality of a punitive justice system and trauma. All of the characters involved play it straight. They all fit the mood. They all match eachother's energy.

And you can be funny, even in this storyline - but you need to match the mood. Just look at the opening of Las Nevadas episode 2. Very dark? Yes? Still humorous? Also yes.

People have been watching the prison-storyline for a while. They've been invested in it; in the struggles these characters go through. Technoblade is joining a storyline that's fully underway and already has build up a lot of expectations.

This isn't about wanting Dream SMP to be "like a TV-show". This is enjoying the Dream SMP as it is - a roleplay, where people collaborate on a storyline together. And a key part of collaborative storytelling is rolling with the punches.

When 90% of the cast play a certain storyline one way and one guy plays it completely differently, it will create whiplash - and people will rightfully express distaste with that whiplash. Especially when the subject matter hits so close to home.

Stop trying to talk down to people, please.
