Political Advertising Summary
Coding for political advertisements can be a great way to study different types of persuasion. The first pattern I identified was most of the ads had the goal of persuading people to vote for a candidate. I only watched five ads, but none of them were attack ads. Even though they all had the same goal, they conveyed their messages is different ways. One ad used multiple voiceovers, of both genders, who were not pictured in the ad. In this one ad the candidate also did not speak to the audience. In fact, in all but one ad did the candidate speak to the audience. All the ads had different type of people speaking to the audience, some had celebrities, others had “regular” people. Therefore, when promoting a candidate, political ads try to get as much variety as possible in terms of voiceovers and guest appearances. I believe they do this to show that the candidate in the ad is well respected by a variety of different people.

Emotion: Experiences
After doing some research I found some interesting information about the relationship between anxiety and other feelings, as well as the relationship between anxiety for people of different sexes and races. I separated people by race and sex, where we had six different groups: white men, white women, black men, black women, men of other races and women of other races. The relationship between anxiety, pride and fear were all statistically significant. However, there was no significance between any of those emotions and people who felt little control of their life. Nevertheless, once I explored the relationship between each emotion and each demographic only two variables had significant relationships, pride and people who did not feel in control of their life. I found that white people, men and women, both felt less in control of their life than any other demographic. Additionally, black people, also men and women, felt proud of their actions more often than any other demographic. Both relationships were significant. This came as somewhat of a shock, as I was expecting to find some significance difference with every emotion for some demographic.

Emotion: Perception
After looking at the data, our group found some interesting findings regarding the correlation between the sets of faces, stories, and both. Off the bat, we saw that the tables containing “both” were rarely the worst indicator. We took this as evidence that when having both the story and face, individuals have a decent shot at figuring out what emotion the subject was feeling. But keeping into account that it was mostly in the middle, it was also rarely the best indicator for frequency agreement. This may signify that it might be more confusing when both face and story are involved. Regardless of which way it is looked at, having both face and story will rarely be the worst at finding frequency agreement. We also discovered that on average, face results had the most agreement between the participants, while the story tended to have the least agreement. This could indicate that the best way to read emotions is to strictly pay attention to people's faces, but it is certainly not that simple due to the variance in the participant results.
Looking away from participant agreement and towards what these participants said can give a different viewpoint. The word the participant picked for both and story tended to be the same in the results, while the faces usually had a different word. Putting everything together shows us that overall participants will agree most when looking at faces but when looking at the story, as well as the face and story at the same time, they will usually come up with the same response. The main finding in all of this is that it is very hard to study emotion because there is so much going on. It is not as simple as just reading the person's face and understanding what is happening to them, and the data shows that.

Stock Footage Descriptions
Blinds: https://www.pexels.com/video/9577122/
This shot of the blinds opening and closing illustrates the slow change in color of both the tree and the building. Additionally, the opening and closing of the blinds allows us to slowly deduce the relative distance of both the building and the tree. This becomes clearer with the presence of better lighting and better exposure to the shadows outside.
Dumpster: https://www.pexels.com/video/9645136/
This shot of the dumpster allows us to identify where one trash bag is compared to another using shadows. Furthermore, the presence of the bees accentuates the proximity of the trash relative to the camera.
Yellow Flower: https://www.pexels.com/video/9577123/
While this yellow flower is not in motion in this shot, its color stands out compared to the other plants and flower who are dying off as we near the fall. The vibrant yellow contrasts the rusty orange and green of the other plants.
The Shoe: https://www.pexels.com/video/9558030/
This shoe has been outside my apartment for a couple of days, and it stands out to me because the shoe is isolated in terms of color. Its navy blue and white color heavily contrast both the green of the grass outside my apartment and the silver gray of the stones.
The Speaker: https://www.pexels.com/video/9577127/
I recently purchased this speaker and thought its ability to shift from one color to another was interesting. Its colors are accentuated by the black speaker and even more by the wooden floor and white wall.
