FRAGILE 04 - Fright
Hoseok was bored out of his mind at home without any of his friends to keep him company and he had already spent the last 2 hours dancing to try and distract himself, even though it was no use.
The girl he had seen at lunch was always popping up on his head unconsciously.
I really need to stop thinking about her. The way this is going I'll have an obsession with her by the end of the week! But I do want to know her. The way she distances herself from everything around her intrigues me. And something in me feels the urge to go to her and reassure her she's not alone. Why?
The boy lazily got up from the sofa and decided he would pay his favourite place a visit. He would always go to the park near his house whenever he felt troubled. Though it was not the case, he had been feeling uneasy all day and the peace the forest brought him would be openly welcomed.
Just as he was about to enter the park, he saw a girl going in too.
Wait, isn't she Hye-in? Aishhh I'm already seeing things, why would she come here? Stupid imagination.
Without his brain processing what was going on, a few words left Hoseok's lips and startled both teenagers.
"Hey, aren't you the girl that was sitting under the tree at lunch?"
Hye-in quickly spun around to face the source of the voice as she screamed at it. Saying she was scared by the sudden noise would be an understatement.
And what is Hoseok's natural reaction? He yelled right back at her.
They were both a mess, trying to recover from whatever had just happened between them.
To make things worse, Hye-in was blushing madly. Her cheeks were crimson red as she eyed the boy she had been inspected throughout the lunch break. Did he follow her there? How did they end up meeting each other the exact same day she had first noticed him?
Hoseok could see she was embarrassed and felt even guiltier for intruding her quiet state.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. And sorry for yelling back at you."
Now it was his turn to be embarrassed. He didn't know what had got over him to make him talk to the girl, but now he couldn't leave without any explanation.
"I'm Hoseok."
The boy raised his hand to shake hers, but quickly decided against the idea and pulled his arm back. Hye-in noticed the movement and couldn't help but eye the boy even more weirdly.
"Hye-in"
She murmured, not sure why had said such thing as if it was a secret. She didn't like introducing herself to others; it was the beginning of a path she wasn't sure she wanted to go down. Everything starts with the name, it's a natural harmless action right? Well that's where you're wrong.
"Oh I know."
Hoseok quickly realised how creepy that had sounded and immediately tried moving past the statement. You don't need me to tell you it didn't go smoothly like he hoped...
"Uhh I mean, nice to meet you. You come here often? I know I do! Look at the flowers, aren't they pretty? Did you know they do photosynthesis?"
There he went again with the nonsense rambling.
What is up with me and photosynthesis? All of a sudden that's all I want to talk about???
Fortunately for him, Hye-in simply giggled at his behaviour. It was reassuring to know she wasn't the only one nervous like a pig on slaughter day.
However, she wondered why he was a nervous wreck when he had taken the initiative to talk to her.
"Not daily, but I do consider myself quite a regular visitor."
Hoseok sighed in relief as the girl had shown compassion and ignored his awkward form.
They started venturing inside the forest and Hoseok found himself staring at her once again. There was something about her that couldn't make him look away. He was determined to find what it was, no matter what it would take.
As for the girl, she had been admiring him herself. All her attention was directed to the boy on her right, wondering why he had come to her.
Complete silence filled the space around them, the rustle of the leaves under their feet the only noticeable sound.
But something spoke louder to her.
In her mind there was one sentence echoing over and over again "don't ruin another person like you did to me". That simple sentence had a huge meaning to her and impacted her previously peaceful state deeply.
No! I didn't ruin you! Stop trying and destroy my life! Stop making these ideas fill my mind. I'm worth it, I know I am.
Her eyes were becoming watery, and a single tear left her left eye. Then another one followed. And another one. Soon she was balling her eyes out, she needed to get out of there. She couldn't breathe. The girl tried to inhale the air around her but it refused to relieve her from the pain she was in.
Hye-in turned around and sprinted home, tears accompanying each step she took. She brought her hand to her eyes to try and clear her blurry vision. More and more tears were streaming down her face, she had to get to her room as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, this event was something she was quite used to getting. Out of nowhere, a simple movement, a word or just a look would trigger something inside that not even she could explain.
She would then get angry at herself for letting it take control over her. That made things worse but there was nothing she could do about it. He wasn't in her life to torment her anymore, yet he always found a way to make her miserable. Even if it was just the memory of him...
Hoseok was left behind perplexed as he watched the girl leave his side in such a panicked state. What the hell is happening? was the only thought circling around his head.
After standing there stunned a few seconds, he decided to go after her.
"HYE-IN! Hold on! HYE-IN"
It was like he hadn't said anything at her; she didn't even flinch when he called her name at the top of his lungs, trying to make her stop. He didn't know what had got over him when seeing her that troubled, but all he wanted to do was calm her down and tell her everything would be alright.
The speed she's going at sooner or later she will stumble over her own legs and fall.
The boy continued shouting for her and running as fast as he could to keep up with her, afraid she would hurt herself. Hye-in wasn't one for sports, running was always her last option "if I walk there I'll get there too", but her fear made her run the fastest she had ever run. It was almost like she was trying to get away from him.
And in fact, she was. Not that she knew at the moment, but after calming herself down she realised what had triggered her this time.
Jung Hoseok.

FRAGILE - 03 Wandering
The main entrance at the school was crowded signalizing that another day of school came to its end. Some people made their way home while others went to hang out with their friends in one of the nearby cafés. Hye-in and Hoseok both fell under the first category.
Hye-in had to get home as quickly as possible; her aunt was coming to stay for the week and her mum had her hands full with assignments at work. Though she hadn't asked her daughter to help around, the teenage girl could see the amount of stress her mum was under as she ran around the house that morning. Helping a little wouldn't hurt anyone and it was her favourite aunt so there's that for motivation.
She got to the gates, turned left and went on with her life.
Hoseok stood against the school's wall, patiently waiting for his friend Yoongi. Who takes 10 minutes to get from the music room to the school's entrance? Jisoos Christ!
As he had nothing else to do while waiting for his friend's arrival he looked around trying to take off his mind from the girl under the tree he had seen earlier. As if on cue, that exact moment she passed right in front of his eyes. She never dared to look up and made her way with her head hanging low and her hands hiding in her pockets. It was almost like she didn't want to be seen. Too bad he had noticed her or else her undercover mission would have been a success.
She quickly looked up before crossing the street and Hoseok took the chance to take a real glance at her. The light way her feet made contact with the ground beneath her contrasted deeply with the heavy expression adorning her features and he couldn't help but wonder what made her face life with such an exhausted expression. It was almost like it pained her to simply breathe.
"There you are staring off into space again! What's wrong with you today man? You spent more time daydreaming than Jin talking about how perfect his side profile is."
Yoongi had to stay back for a little so he could discuss a few details about the song he was working on with the teacher and was honestly quite surprised J-hope had waited for him all this time. The boy had been staring into nowhere and he probably didn't even notice time passing by.
"You were completely out of it today. Is everything alright? Are you having nightmares again?"
Yoongi was the only one that knew about Hoseok's past. They had met when the boy was at his lowest point, barely making it day by day, and it was his understanding and support that helped him get back on his feet. Maybe it was because Yoongi had saved him from himself back then or justthe fact he knew about everything he had been through, all Hoseok knew was thathe treasured their friendship above anything else. They had each other's back and that would never change.
"Ohh it's not about that, I've been good for about 4 months now. It is just one of those days you know..."
"It's okay if you don't want to talk about it, but I'll be here whenever you need someone to listen to you."
Yoongi was somewhat relieved his best friend wasn't experiencing those twisted realities again. Now onto the real conversation, Yoongi thought as a smirk made his way to his face.
"By the way, I saw you staring at that girl earlier. You really gotta become less obvious."
Hoseok was obviously startled with the comment that had left Yoongi's mouth. Had he been that noticeable? Well, there's no way he would let his hyung think that he was, indeed, staring at the girl.
"What? Pfff nah. I was j-just –ehh- looking at the –uh- tree behind her. Did you know it does photosynthesis?"
Dodged a bullet right now. Good cover up, he won't notice right?
As if the weird answer hadn't been evidence enough, Hoseok was nervously looking around, stating a wide variety of random facts to try and change the topic.
"I'm just saying, next time you look at someone try not to stare right at her soul forever. You need to have swag like I do."
Yoongi thought it was funny seeing Hoseok stumbling over his words, definitely a contrast to his usual confident self. As for the other, he didn't even know why did he get nervous when asked about her. However, he did have to admit that something in her awoke his curiosity.
"Swag? You wish! Go jjang jjang boong boong back to your house you smol bean."
That being said, the two young men bid a quick goodbye and made their way to their own houses.
· · · ·
The moment she got home Hye-in didn't hesitate on plopping down on her bed. She had quite a few things to do, but her eyes betrayed her as they closed and she fell in a peaceful state of unconsciousness.
She jolted awake as a more-than-familiar face made his way into her mind. She couldn't believe she had dreamed about him again. And what troubled her the most was the fact that she would only relive the happy moments over and over again.
How could she hate somebody who, at the time, made her the happiest she had ever been to this day? Even her mind was making fun of her, making her believe all the lies he had told her before. She didn't want the happy reminders, she wanted to remember the pain she had been in. That was the only solution for her to try and move past the situation. There was nothing she could or wanted to do to change the situation, she had moved on from that long ago, but clinging onto the past wasn't doing her any good either.
If only she could choose to erase those said memories! She was better now and she wanted to remember the reasons she truthfully believed in that. The way to do it was to remember all of the bad things, no matter how much it hurt. And she was determined to do that... just not right now. She was tired and crying herself to sleep once more wasn't the world's most pleasing idea. Those days were long gone.
Shaking the unpleasing thoughts aside, Hye-in plugged in her ear buds and started  (making her way downtown, walking fast - sorry haha) helping around the house. Two hours later and she had tidied every single room in the house. The girl had just taken a seat down on the sofa when her parents opened the front door.
"My daughtah, are my eyes playing tricks on me or did you actually clean the house by yourself?"
The mother couldn't help but tear up a bit at the sight. Her beloved daughter had taken time from her busy live to help around because she knew how much she had to do before her sister's arrival.
She's not my little girl anymore. When I look at her now, I see a young woman, kind to others and always doing her best to please the ones she love. We raised such a beautiful person.
"Oh honey, thank you so much! I'll cook your favourite meal tonight. It's my turn to make your frown turn upside down."
The girl giggled at her mother's loving behaviour and shouted she was going out for a bit. A walk was all she needed to set her mind off this business. She didn't want to admit but the short dream had perturbed her profoundly.
Her house was near an open forest and whenever she went on these little walks her feet ended up doing the same path every time. It was like nature was her ultimate destination, whether she liked it or not.
She made her way while quietly humming to her favourite song, 'Paper Hearts', it's not like any one would listen; usually she found no soul in the mediations of the place.
That's why she almost jumped a meter in the air when a loud voice interrupted her lonely existence.
"Hey, aren't you the girl that was sitting under the tree at lunch?"

FRAGILE - 02 True Self
He had noticed her staring at him. Not knowing how to react to it, he found himself staring back at her. They made eye contact and the girl immediately looked away as a small blush colored her pale cheeks.
Hmm cute
Unconsciously, a shy grin made its way to his face. How long had she been watching him? And most importantly, why? He knew who she was -everyone at school knew who she was - Kim Hye-in, the girl who spent all of her time alone with her nose buried in a book and never interacted with others. She distanced herself from everything and he wondered why she had taken upon herself the job of being the school's wallflower.
At least she's staying true to herself.
Jung Hoseok was fairly know around the school as a goofus, always with a smile plastered on his face and a joke ready to roll out of his tongue, happiness irradiated from his form. Or at least that's what people thought... Behind that careless attitude there was suffer, an unbearable pain that was kept hidden under the excitement he showed the world.
He loved his friends more than anything, but not even they knew about his pain. It was all before they knew each other; it's not their fault they couldn't see past his façade. No one did, not even his parents...The boy had learned how to hide the pain away long ago... He didn't want to be a burden and if going through it by himself was what needed to be done then so be it.
"Hyung, don't you agree with me?"
He was brought back to reality as the youngest of the group, Jeon Jungkook, clicked his fingers right in front of him.
"Were you even listening?"
The young one didn't hesitate in shooting an overly-hurt look in his direction.
Damn this boy is way too extra for my sake.
Hoseok had got lost in thought and hadn't paid one second of attention to what his friends were talking about. Whoops?
"Sorry, got side-tracked for a bit. What were you saying?"
As the group filled him in on their conversation, he found himself looking around for the girl. She wasn't sitting under the tree anymore. How did he not notice her leaving? Without him even noticing, J-hope was looking around, lost in his own little reality.
Yoongi had been eyeing the boy carefully, he seemed a little off. Not even when he spent hours on end perfecting a certain dance move and didn't manage to do it correctly did he act so distracted. He made a mental note to have a little talk with him on the way home. Hoseok had been there for him plenty of times before, it was time he returned the favor.
Deciding on leaving the thought of the girl buried in the far back of his mind, Hoseok brought himself back to earth and joined the others. But why were they talking about snakeus? I hate snakeu.
· · ·
Oh my God he is looking my way! Did he notice me staring at him? I just got distracted. He must think I'm a stalker or something. I mean, I did spend 10 minutes staring right at him but I just couldn't stop myself. I swear I'm not obsessed! I was just admiring their friendship; you could really see the care they have for each other.
Hye-in was panicking and couldn't wait to get out of there. She quickly sprung onto her feet and sped-walk to the library. Looking back, the boy was still looking at the tree she was sitting under before.
Maybe he wasn't staring at me before. He could be looking at the squirrels right? Yeah, that's probably it. Why would he stare at an ugly girl like me anyway? C'mon Hye-in you knowit's better not to think this type of things...
She finally got to building and inhaled the sweet smell of the books surrounding her. The girl wasn't looking for anything in particular, she went to the library only to kill time. Anyways, she already had quite a few books reserved that she should have returned a while ago. Thankfully the librarian was fond of her and trusted the girl to bring the books back by the end of the year. It was better to play safe and stay hidden though, so she went to the back row and quietly looked around.
While walking around the usually empty space, Hye-in was surprised when she saw the popular girls entering it. That sure was something you don't see every day. It's not like they were dumb or didn't study, simply they would spend every break at school gossiping and retouching their make-up in the toilets.
Their conversation could be heard throughout the silent room and Hye-in couldn't help but listen to it. She knew it was wrong, but it's not her fault they're talking so loud that even the camels in the Sahara desert could hear!
"You'll see, J-hope Oppa is definitely not escaping me. I'll do anything and everything to make him mine! I'm pretty sure he must have a crush on me. Who doesn't?"
Her friends, or best said, her followers, were quick to agree and join her on the forced laughing.
Gosh, the poor boy doesn't know what he's in for. And who even thinks so highly of themselves? Bruh share some confidence with the rest of humanity, I know I wouldn't mind!
The bell rang loudly and Hye-in started making her way to Homeroom. She sat at her usual place by the window and waited for the teacher's arrival.
"Hello my beloved little butterflies! I have some news to tell you, but first please sit down on your rightful seats. I'm talking to you Mr. Kim, there's no way I'm letting you spend the lesson besides Jungkook!"
I smiled at her friendly approach. I had always likes Mrs. Park., she connected with us the way no other teacher does and truthfully does her best so we can learn and be successful.
"The next project I have in store for you is a little bit different than what you're used to in my class. What I want you to do is find yourselves. Hey, don't look at me that way, wait and listen until the end! Some of you already know what you want to do in your future, bu-"
"Y'all will see how famous I'll be! I'm the rap god AgustD"
There were some snickers around the class, mostly from his friends, after the usually quiet boy had said such things. The teacher simply rolled her eyes and continued explaining the project.
"Unnecessary intervention Yoongi. As I was saying, I want you to picture your future, discover what things you want to include in it, and most importantly who you want to be. You can do this in any format, could be a composition, a scrap book, whatever you feel like it represents you the most."
Hye-in had paid attention to every word the woman said, not because she was excited to the do the said project. Actually,it was quite the opposite. Did she really want to picture her future? She couldn't even face her past... The girl wasn't eager to find herself, not sure she would like the result of such discovery...

FRAGILE - 01 Lost
Nothing
that's what Hye-in felt the moment she opened her eyes. Shouldn't she feel alive? The beginning of a new day greeted her but she wanted to do nothing but go back to her dreams, a place where she didn't need to be in contact with the harsh reality.
It's not that the girl wasn't 'happy', she had loving parents, a little too overprotective at times, but she understood the concern they had for their only daughter. After all, their job had been protecting her since the moment their little princess was laid peacefully onto her mother's arms. They tried shielding her from the world's cruelty but it found a way to seek through all those barriers of love and innocence and terrorize her...
How can a person truly be happy when knowledgeable of all the misery so many people had to go through daily? And the worse part: doing it with a smile plastered on their lips.
Hye-in shook all the negativity away It's way too early to be depressed already. I'll save that for when I get the biology test back.
She quickly got dressed; jeans and a hoodie was her go-to outfit. It's not like she had someone to impress, and even if she did they better not expect her to get all pampered up to school. Wake up to do my make-up or dress nicely? HA you wish
After quickly eating breakfast and brushing her teeth, Hye-in was out of the door in an instant. The walk to the school she did everyday wasn't that long, 15 more minutes and she was ready to face yet another lonely day.
Hye-in sped walk through the hallways, her eyes glued to the ground. Guess what? She got to the locker safe and sound and put all the books she would need in her backpack. (you were expecting the cliché meeting amirite? hehe not on my watch)
At a slow pace she quietly made her way to the classroom, sitting in one of the back rows. No one would bother her and she could take in the peaceful sight beside her at the window, sounds perfect uh?
Numb. That's the only thing she felt that moment. It was like time had stopped. There was an ordinary girl staring at the ordinary ceiling of an ordinary school filled with ordinary way-too-hormonal teenagers. The same old routine passing by her without her even noticing how accustomed she was to the boredom that surrounded her life. Well, there was nothing she could do. Did she even want to do something about it? Changing isn't always for the best and there were some memories stuffed in the back of her head that wouldn't let her think otherwise.
The classroom started filling in and just as it was about to ring a group of 3 boys entered the room loudly. She studied them: they looked happy, laughing along a joke one of them had told, and she couldn't help but feel a little jealous over that. Hye-in couldn't remember the last time she had truthfully laughed but did she even want to remember it? Some things are better if forgotten.
She spun her attention back to the blackboard and started writing down the notes.
· · · TIME SKIP: Lunch · · ·
The petite girl swung her backpack on her shoulder and made her way to the school's garden. There were some big old trees in the green area, a few benches and tables for anyone who wanted to appreciate the outside for a bit, but the place was deserted. Of course most students ate at the cafeteria but mingling with the crowd wasn't necessarily Hye-in's favourite hobby.
She would usually sit under the shadow of a pine tree and read a book, but something made her stray away from that today. Decided on admiring her surroundings her eyes darted over an unusual appearance at her spot. The same three boys that made quite an entrance that morning were sitting at a close table, this time accompanied by four other guys.
Suddenly a loud noise was heard coming from the energetic group
"Give me back my sandwich, it cost 3 DOLLA!"
"Aish Jin just give him back his precious sandwich or else we'll have to deal with a grumpy Yoongi for the rest of the day and I'm not up for playing babysitter okay?"
Oh, I recognize him, it's that hella smart dude ehh- Namjin? Nammin? No, Namjoon! Yeah, that's it.
She had never had a proper conversation with him, but whenever someone couldn't solve a problem in class he was the one they turn to. With a charismatic smile adorning his face, he would always help his colleagues. She had herself been one of those people and remembered how kind he was with her, explaining step by step every little thing she wouldn't understand.
They were constantly bickering with each other, a few swear words and pushing involved too, but one particular boy had caught her attention. He had been the quietest of them all, still laughing and joining the conversation but she saw past that image. She didn't know his name, but she surely would remember him from now on. His angelic features were engraved in her mind, the way his mouth resembled a heart when laughing or the subtle way his hair bobbed up and down as he turned his head towards the rest of the boys joining in on the fun conversation was mesmerizing. Nonetheless, the one thing that intrigued her the most was his eyes: there was pain reflected in them, as if they had a story to tell but nobody ever bothered listening to it.
