Calling LGBTQIA+ Artists and ALLY Artists
Get your art onto the gallery wall.
Peekskill Pride is hosting a month-long art gallery show here in Peekskill.
Artists are invited to submit artwork (prints, paintings, sculptures, ceramics, photographs, and videos) that visually explore, investigate and examine the diversity of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer experiences. We are especially interested in works that:
bear witness to the many aspects of the LGBTQIA+ personal and communal experiences
evoke awareness of LGBTQIA+ issues as well as contemporary art and artists
inspire others to create, participate, and connect
Peekskill Pride believes that exhibiting artwork created by Artists that are both queer, and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community, will contribute to the appreciation for, and the ongoing development of a multicultural perspective that includes the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer experience.
TIME TO SUBMIT IS CLOSING FAST – and to give you a bit of an incentive to submit, we are offering you a $25 gift card for submitting. (while funds last).
Thank you to PEEKSKILL ART GRANTS for supporting this effort!!

Peekskill Art Grant - Displays of Affection
Artists and their work is one of the things that is really special about Peekskill. You are invited to share your work digitally and it will be installed on screens around the city in storefront windows.
If you’d like to share your work, go to this link, fill out the form and send us an image of your art or short video (no sound). We will add a caption to the image and showcase your work for folks to see as they walk around our beautiful city.
We will be making up the rules as we go along. We love art that is outside the norm but won’t accept work that we judge to be hateful, disrespectful, or would give small children nightmares.
To encourage participation each accepted artwork will receive a $25 gift certificate.
Deadline to submit: March 14th, 2021
Who can submit art? Literally anyone who lives in or makes art in Peekskill. We would like to see art from all the communities in Peekskill represented.
What kind of art can be submitted? We are titling these screens “Displays of Affection” because we want to show love for the artists in our Peekskill community. Artists are encouraged to submit work that can be shown on screens.
How to participate
Find or take a picture or a short (up to one minute, without sound) video of your artwork that you’d like to share with Peekskill. * One work of art per artist (one photo or one video)
Fill in this form with your information. (https://forms.gle/SkY6HCZVcPkh96ne7)
Send us your artwork in the format described below, if you have any questions, please let us know at: [email protected]
Media formats to send
Video - Duration: Approximately 1 minute or less - Resolution: 3840x2160, 1920x1080 or 1280x720 - Landscape orientation - Format: MP4 with H.264 encoding - Frame rate: 30fps or 60fps - Audio: none Images - PNG, JPG are preferred - if you would like to submit an animated GIF, please convert it and submit it as a video file It is not necessary to add titles to your piece — these will be displayed alongside the work based on the details you've provided in the form.

If you have a storefront in Peekskill and would like to showcase a display, send us an email at [email protected]. And if you are an artist and have any questions, feel free to drop us a line at the same email address.

Peekskill Art Grant Recipient - Bria The Artist
We deployed 9 arts grants. In our follow up form, we asked artists to describe their art practice and if they have a message for Peekskill right now.
“My work focuses on the evolution, consciousness, and nature of the Black culture as it relates to my own. Primarily working with acrylic paint, My art captures the nurturing, leading spirit of the Black woman, the wise and protective nature of the Black man, and the ever-growing and learning spirit of the Black child. The “third eye” is used throughout many of my works as it symbolizes the innate sense of self, inner knowledge, divine power and intuition.”
"To the Peekskill area at large: it is impossible to to celebrate the arts without taking a look a some of the Black pioneers from which a large majority of art is derived today, AND Black artists living within our own community."
Check out her work on her website here and on her instagram.

An invitation to Black artists in Peekskill
I'm granting $5000 in art grants to Black artists in the Peekskill community. I feel strongly that we need to empower the art and expression of Black artists now. Approved grants will get $100 - $1500 in cash in as little as 24 hours. The money is exclusively to pay for printing, materials, or equipment or otherwise producing art the public can see ASAP.

Details and Terms
If you’re not sure your art is a fit, please apply anyway. The worst that can happen is we’ll send a very polite email that (literally) says: “Thank you but your submission is not a fit for this project at this time.”
No applications will be accepted after $5,000 has been distributed. Sorry if we missed you.
We will not distribute funds until we have verification from the host of the artwork that it is a safe and welcome place to host the art.
This payment is a personal gift from me to you. This is not through a nonprofit and has NO strings attached.
The only review process we request is a 15 minute phone call, done casually.
You need to have PayPal, Venmo,or Zelle to receive funds. If you need things ordered and delivered from Amazon, I can also buy things as part of the grant and have them delivered to you.
We will publish each grant on this site and instagram. I made this Instagram account for Peekskill Art Grants.
This grant is not appropriate for book projects. In this time we need to focus on projects that are easily accessed by large amounts of people as fast as possible.
You are receiving it in good faith, and will not be asked to report on the grant beyond a photo of the installation. What happens to the art over time is up to you and the host of the art.
We are not liable for what you do with the money. You may not use this to promote or condone illegal activities.
Your artwork is wholly your intellectual property. This grant has no legal binding for either party.

Roadblock?
What if you don't have any relationships with business and property owners? Having a personal connection with a business or property owner is the best way to find a place for your art, but if you don't feel connected, I've talked to 3 business owners that are open to having conversations with artists about hosting art. Mention a need for location if you need to in your application. If you have any other roadblocks or have a question, fill out this contact form and I'll do my best to help.
Update: another business owner reached out. 4 business owners want to explore supporting Black Artists work in and on their spaces.
