ROUND ONE: POLL #10

ROUND ONE POLLS [HERE]
PROPAGANDA BELOW
Lancelot du Lac/Galehaut:
tl:dr The Arthurian Romance that was erased.
The forth corner in the most famous Arthurian love triangle; Galehaut was a powerful and successful warlord and an enemy of Camelot and Arthur. He was beating the pants off them so badly that he gave Arthur a whole year to get ready because he didn't want an easy win. Until the "Black Knight" showed up fighting for Arthur. Galehaut was so enamored with this enemy knight that he literally made peace with King Arthur instead of continuing to curb stomp him in order to have a single night with said knight. Arthur agrees and Galehaut gets his one night with Lancelot.
This one night together turns into a lifelong bond. Galehaut and Lancelot become pretty much inseparable, to the point that they live together in Lancelot's Castle, Joyous Gard. They have many adventures together and while it is said that it's Galehaut that introduced Lancelot and Guinevere, it's also Galehaut that remains firmly loyal to Lancelot despite that. He's the one who gives them both shelter during the whole False Guinivere debacle.
[SPOILERS]
When Galehaut believes Lancelot to be slain, he literally dies of grief for the loss of Lancelot. He is buried at Joyous Gard. When Lancelot dies much later, he is buried RIGHT NEXT TO GALEHAUT in the tomb he constructed years ago for the both of them to be together in eternity.
[End spoilers]
Galehaut and Lancelot takes the "enemies to lovers", "one night of bliss turned more" and "they were roommates" to chilvaric romance levels.
Orestes/Pylades:
Yes they're the ones behind the "I'll take care of you. // It's rotten work. // Not to me. Not if it's you" quote (translation from Euripides)
Yes they're also cousins, it's Greek Mythology not real life 21st century

ROUND ONE: POLL #7
ROUND ONE POLLS [HERE]
PROPAGANDA BELOW
Michel de Montaigne/Étienne de La Boétie:
As far as I'm aware, we only know for sure that they were very good friends and that Montaigne mourned his friend deeply. Men were more open about their feelings of friendship back then, which today we tend to read as homoerotism. What we do have is Montaigne's works on their friendship ! I quote : 'If I am pressed to say why I loved him, I feel it can only be explained by replying: 'Because it was he; because it was me.'
Alexander the Great/Hephaestion:
NO PROPAGANDA SUBMITTED
#UM??? EVERYONE SLEEPING ON MONTAIGNE X LA BOÉTIE BC OF FUCKING HEPHAESTION?#'because it was he; because it was me' LOSING TO THAT TWINK??? Mary Renault I'm gonna slap the shit out of u#even Georges Brassens sang abt Montaigne & La Boétie I'm-#OK shutting up before I crash out over this#FOLLOWERS & MUTUALS IF U LOVE ME U WILL VOTE FOR THE FRENCHIES 💙#that infamous line abt Hephaestion's thighs came from Roman gossip centuries after Alexander's death#& was popularised by Fox‚ the main proponent of this ship‚ who admits himself that it's not fact but 'one interpretation'#AND also believes that the reason any relationship might've happened at all was Freudian 💀#Montaigne's quote came from the horse's mouth!! I rest my case

ROUND ONE: POLL #6

ROUND ONE POLLS [HERE]
PROPAGANDA BELOW
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe/Friedrich Schiller:
So. they are THE German writers. Think Shakespeare level of relevance. And they are so very sus.
They were very close friends in life, and while they are both associated with and occasionally worked in the same city, they actually spent most of their time separated, so there are many very longing letters to each other which Goethe even published.
Schiller died first, so naturally Goethe had his skull placed on his desk on a very fancy ornamented cushion and wrote poetry about it. He also decreed that he wanted them to be buried together and they kind of are (it's complicated).
On a more fandom level, they sort of have every trope the gender neutral girls go crazy for. Imagine a slightly older, well-off and established poet (Goethe) who strikes an unlikely friendship with the young scrappy newcomer (Schiller) that somehow stands the test of time and also their massive egos which got kinda worse when they were together and lasts even beyond death. Beautiful <3
This isn't very relevant to the ship but that very famous statue of both of them side by side made my friend have a lil crush on Schiller he's weirdly hot in this one
They were two German authors and their collaboration coined an entire literary time period. Sie hatten ihre Hochzeit in Weimar
Paul Verlaine/Arthur Rimbaud:
Pushing toxicity to another level
#Schoethe is v sweet. but#Verlaine shot that man 🧍♂️#& Rimbaud survived & went on to become a weapons (/people?) smuggler#also I like their poetry

ROUND ONE: POLL #5

ROUND ONE POLLS [HERE]
PROPAGANDA BELOW
Apollo/Hyacinthus:
It's a great tragic romance story that's usually not quite as widely known as a lot of the more popularized stories in Greek mythology
Hyacinthus was a beautiful Spartan youth, beloved by the god Apollo. As the good Spartan he was, Hyacinthus loved athletics, and one day the two decided to practice throwing the discus. Apollo went first, sending the disc flying up to “scatter the clouds” as Ovid says. Hyacinthus ran laughing after it, thinking to catch the disc, but instead it hit him in the head, killing him. Ovid has a beautiful passage about Apollo holding the dying youth, desperately trying to use his skill with medicine to keep him alive. But even the mighty god of healing could not save the one he loved. In honor of his lover, Apollo makes a flower spring up from Hyacinthus’ blood.
Duke Ling/Mizi Xia:
One of the most famous accounts of same-sex couples from ancient China is the story of the relationship between Duke Ling of the State of Wei (r. 534-493 BCE) and the courtier Mizi Xia. The Duke was married and had a son but preferred the company of his male lover. Mizi Xia once borrowed the duke’s carriage without asking permission to go visit his sick mother and, instead of receiving the harsh punishment that anyone else would have been met with, was praised by the duke for his filial piety. Another time, when they were out for a walk, Mizi Xia offered the duke half of a peach he was eating, and the duke was touched, saying, "How great is your love for me. You forget your own appetite and think only of giving me good things to eat!" The phrase "love of the half-eaten peach" became the byword for same-sex relationships afterwards.
#AWW WHAT. the bitten peach story... 🥺#anyone voting for Ovid's Looney Tunes ass death can unfollow me now idgaf it's Ling x Mizi Xia for life

ROUND ONE POLLS [HERE]
PROPAGANDA BELOW
Cyrano de Bergerac/D'Artagnan:
Two legendary duelists from Gascony (a South France's region) ? Sign me in
Emperor Ai of Han/Dong Xian:
Anybody who's into danmei is probably familiar with the term "cutsleeve." This is in reference to an alleged story from Chinese history where an emperor, rather than disturb his sleeping lover by pulling away his sleeve, chose to cut off his sleeve to allow him to rest.
Well guess what. These are the guys who originated the term. IT'S THEM. @ all danmei fans out there, please vote for Emperor Ai/Dong Xian. They're icons (to me).
#OK everyone (< putting on clown make-up) hear me out. Cyrano x d'Artagnan is my NOTP but it does amuse me endlessly#so vote for them. please 🫶

#writing#poll#once read a fic where the author's favourite way to name an emotion was to say 'something like [emotion]'#'he sighed with something like adoration' 'he smiled with something like wonder' like stop!!! lol#OK what is it. if it's like wonder but not wonder what is it then.#the rest of the fic was impeccable which unfortunately made this stand out all the more#but back to the list#'I love you [full name]' is such an unbearably American thing it is immersion-breaking every single time#denying someone permission to die is imo nowhere near as impactful as ordering them to live (although idm either one)#the breath one is also annoying but only slightly. padding down a hall is more annoying but I've never encountered that even once lol#& 'character snorted' 50 times is annoying in an understandable way#like that's annoying irl too if all someone does to acknowledge u is snorting & grunting. USE WORDS.#so if u want to make the character irritating I get it#but I have more tolerance for this phenomenon (not just snorting) generally bc so much communication is in fact non-verbal#u don't rlly have a choice. bitches be smirking/gazing/sighing/chuckling. it gets repeated a lot. it's fine#& 'maybe just maybe' is kind of a nothingburger#it's less annoying & more a sign of a weak writer... like u didn't know what to put there so u put that#or maybe ur bad at conclusions (mood 🤡)
