cynigowain would not survive long in sburb because Owain would use every last drop of their grist alchemising elaborately shitty swords that he refuses to let anyone use. Cynthia persuades Inigo join her grist farming operation and he gets really into it, showing off to anyone looking (Owain and Cynthia), but does not think to ask why Owain needs so much grist or what he's farming it for. by the time they see the meteors it is too late to place any of the equipment they need so they hold hands and watch the meteors falling from a pile of, i cannot stress this enough, the most outrageously shitty swords you can imagine

im not spoiling for a fight i promise i just think it is mechanically and thematically important in awakening to limit s support to heterosexual marriages only. i do think some of the, uh, outsized complaints about this are mostly complaints about having to think about why awakening is so consistent about the role heterosexual marriages play in inheritance and child rearing. fates tried to address this more directly, and, well. That's Fates For You. but i don't think they should have come back in throuses. i hate that they're only there as a special treat for the player-- i mean byleth-- who as we all know is the most important and special person in the entire fucking world

but literally what do they add in engage. you have three conversations in which a bargain brand vtuber says "divine one i worship you. O.o teh cheeze monkeh llama sp0rk xD" and then, well, if you faff around in enough menus you can do a special attack once per level and you get slightly different endcard text. these are your "first full bisexual cast" relationships? groundbreaking stuff

i know being the laziest and flattest kind of "queernorm" is the least of engage's problems but it's very indicative of the total lack of effort put in to any of its world building. alear is an important political figure unless they're not, alear is a literal deity unless they're not, alear can get gay married but ONLY alear can do that and no character can say no to them but none of this means anything because elyos doesn't exist in any meaningful way. elyos is an ugly graphic that lets you move from story chapter to story chapter.

any halfway competent writer would at least notice the horror potential in "the immortal god-dragon-monarch can choose anyone they want as a spouse including their younger sister and no one can say no to this". i do not believe that engage was written by halfway competent writers

in this fantasy world, theres no homophobia or sexism! but the governments are still patriarchal monarchies and everyone still adheres to the standard nuclear family, two things that have absolutely no relation to homophobia and sexism whatsoever

And it'll be the whole fandom, too, like the entire community will treat this coupling like it's text, somehow blissfully unaware that they completely made it up! It's like a mass hallucination of invented subtext.
