RIOFX Podcast
Hi guys, welcome to the RIOFX podcast!
Today, we’re going to take a look at the “80/20-rule” and the power of setting SMART goals. We’ll also explore the best way to focus your goals to increase your productivity levels. There’s a lot to unpack here, so let’s dive right into it!
Now, I’m sure you’re all very familiar with goal setting. People set goals all the time, right? Goals are a vital tool for keeping us on track. Whether it’s a goal for your career, personal life, or mental and physical well-being. We can all agree that goals are important.
However, there’s no point in setting goals unless they’re SMART goals. S-M-A-R-T. This acronym stands for “Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.” You’ll need to include all of these features to make your average goal SMART. Let’s take a closer look at exactly what a SMART goal is!
First, a SMART goal needs to be specific and time-bound. Want to start losing weight? Write down a specific weight-loss goal and when you’ll achieve it by. If you can’t write down the goal in one sentence then it’s not specific enough. If there’s no time frame attached to your goals it’ll be less likely that you’ll achieve them. It’ll be that much more difficult to take that first step forward and make progress on your goal setting journey.
In my own career, I wanted to start making this podcast to help others like me who want to make an improvement in their professional and personal life. So I set a SMART goal. I wanted to release this first episode in 2019. This is a specific and time-bound goal, and I’m happy to report that I reached it!
Secondly, the goal needs to be achievable and measurable. Many people set their sights on vague “big idea” goals that are difficult to quantify. For example, a goal such as earning a million dollars is less specific then working towards a promotion at work. Sure, earning a million dollars would be great! Yet, it’s important to work on smaller changes that will improve your overall quality of life. “Big ideas” will ultimately set you up for disappointment and lead to a loss of faith in the power of goal setting.
Lastly, if the goal is achieved it needs to have a tangible impact on your life. It needs to be relevant. Making sure your house is always clean is a good goal, but what impact will it make? Will you be more organized or less stressed out? Make sure that your goal has a specific outcome.
For me, I created the RIOFX podcast to help people develop and grow using tried and trusted techniques. I wanted to share my passion with the world to help others. If I can make a difference in just one person's life, I have fulfilled the outcome of my goal.
Did you know that people who set goals are more likely to achieve success than people who don’t? SMART goals will help you to focus on the future and hold yourself responsible for your actions.
Remember, the “80/20” rule we talked about earlier? This is a vital part of the goal-setting process. Also known as the “Pareto Principle”, the “80/20-rule” means that 20% of the things you do in your life will contribute to 80% of the results. Take a good look at your life as it is now. Are there any activities or people in your life that are taking up your energy without any positive benefits? To maximize your potential and get the most out of your time, you need to streamline your life. Cut away the dead weight and set SMART goals to achieve success. This is the key to move forward and start living your best life.
Thanks for joining the RIOFX podcast. Catch you next time!

Inside comfort with Jerry Navarra
Hi there, and welcome to Inside Comfort with Jerry Navarra. In this brand new podcast, I’ll take a deep dive into the industry that I know and love. I’m fascinated by every aspect of the furniture industry, from the very beginnings; including raw materials and design, to my customer’s experience. When it comes to talking furniture, nothing is off the table!
I’m well-known in Southern California for my families landmark company Jerome’s Furniture. I have a long history of providing quality furniture for the community at an unbeatable price. My family opened their very first furniture store over 65 years ago. My father started with a very simple goal, to make everyone in the community feel welcome. My family were passionate about cutting back on fancy storefronts and focusing instead on creating a positive experience for the customer. Even though it’s not 1954 anymore and a lot has changed; I still carry these community and family values with me today. As we say around here, a passion for great furniture and treating customers like family, that’s the Jerome’s difference!
Well, enough about me! Let’s jump into our very first episode. Today, I want to take a close look at the mattress industry and the importance of sleep. This is a topic that’s really important to me and there are a few essential things you need to know before purchasing a new mattress. However, before I start talking about mattresses, I think it’s important to understand more about sleep and its importance in our daily life.
First, let’s take a look into why we need quality sleep and what exactly quality sleep is. How many hours of sleep are you meant to get every night? Seven? Eight? Nine? Actually, this isn’t the best way to look at sleep. You know the old saying, quality over quantity? The same thinking applies to mattresses. Even if you get eight hours of sleep, if they aren’t quality hours, you’ll wake up feeling grumpy and tired!
The latest scientific research indicates that we need quality sleep in order to feel well-rested and refreshed in the morning. According to studies from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders, there are four stages in the sleep cycle. Each cycle takes approximately two hours and all are essential for getting quality sleep. The most interesting and important stages of the sleep cycle are the last two. In stage three, our body is undergoing a repair process. This is where our organs, hormones, blood flow, and pressure all experience change. During stage four of the sleep cycle, our brain finally becomes active and it works on organizing information, cleaning up neurons, and storing long-term memories. This stage is also commonly known as REM or Dream Sleep, and it’s at this point that our brain refreshes and recharges to take on the challenges of the next day!
Ok, so we know a little bit more about these last two stages and how they affect our body and brain. So, what happens when we wake up during these stages? Did you know that if you are disturbed because of any kind of discomfort that you may stop going through your sleep cycle and start at the very beginning? That means that even if you sleep for eight hours if you’re tossing and turning, you won’t be able to fully complete your sleep cycle! That could lead to a whole host of health problems, from depression, high blood pressure, heart issues, irritability, and fatigue. In fact, studies have shown that there are links between a disruption in this sleep cycle to dementia and Alzheimers, later on in life. It’s obvious that quality sleep is an essential part of our physical and mental health and well-being.
So, if you want to improve your quality of sleep, what can you do? The most common things that impact sleep are stress and anxiety, pain, noise pollution, drugs, caffeine and alcohol. On top of this, an uncomfortable mattress can also have a massive impact on quality sleep.
Think about it this way: how comfortable is your current mattress? Do you think that it’s comfortable enough that you won’t be disturbed during a two-hour sleep cycle? Simply put, if you have an uncomfortable mattress you could be experiencing all kinds of preventable health problems.
Finally, now we’ve got all of the health and science out of the way, I can focus on what I’m truly passionate about, furniture. Now that you know the health benefits of having a great mattress, you can need to choose a mattress that works for your body, lifestyle, needs, and age.
I’m so passionate about finding the right mattress for my customers that I’ve developed The Complete Fit Process. Do you want to know how it works? Well, imagine visiting your optometrist for a new pair of glasses. Do they just give you one lens to try? Of course not! The optometrist will try a variety of different lenses to get the one that works for you. Why should a mattress be any different? There are so many long-term health issues that can happen from not having the right mattress. This decision is way too important to not take the time to do it properly.
At Jerome’s Furniture, we have experienced and trained specialists who use Paired Comparison Decision Making to find the right mattress for each unique customer. In fact, according to studies, this method of selecting a mattress means that it’s ten times more accurate than simply picking just one mattress. The Complete Fit Process is completely free and the health benefits will last a lifetime.
At the end of the day, it’s essential to choose your mattress carefully to get the right fit for you. By changing your mattress to one that’s comfortable and supportive, you’ll get that quality sleep that you need and be able to wake up feeling refreshed, energetic, and ready for the day!

WordDive episode: The States
Hello, welcome to the show! Today, we are taking a look at some of my favorite things about the United States. I lived in the USA for 2 years and during that time, I was based in Brooklyn, New York. I fell head over heels for American traditions, festivals, and cool travel destinations. First off, let’s talk about Thanksgiving. If you’ve ever been in the States during November, you may know that the lead up to Thanksgiving is a big deal. There’s beautiful fall weather and everyone is eating pumpkin-flavored sweets. People are also starting to get excited about their return home for the holiday season. People usually take a few days off work for Thanksgiving. The big cities can be like ghost towns. This is because people travel out of town, filling up on turkey, sweet pies, and mashed potato with their relatives! It’s a time to not only celebrate family but also pay respect to the history of the country. If you get a chance, check out the Macy’s Day Parade in Manhattan. It’s a quintessential American tradition, and it’s a lot of fun!  After Thanksgiving, it’s Halloween, one of the most magical times in the USA. Make sure you dress up and attend some spooky events! Halloween is a nationwide deal in the USA, and there is a lot of excitement… and scary costumes on the streets! Just remember that unfortunately, you’ll have to leave the trick or treating to the younger ones!  As far as holidays go, It doesn’t get more American than Independence Day, also known as the Fourth of July. Because it's in the middle of summer, everyone celebrates the Declaration of Independence outside. You can watch the local fireworks, have a family BBQ, enjoy a block party, or catch a baseball game and parade. There's going to be a lot of red, white, and blue, so make sure you dress up!  The USA is a large country with so much diversity. Every state offers different regional cuisine, stunning landscapes, and monuments. One of my favorite US food traditions is definitely Southern comfort food. Buttermilk biscuits, sawmill gravy, and chicken and waffles. It doesn’t get better than that. I could talk about this food all day, but let’s move onto some sweet destinations! Here are some of my favorite places that I’ve visited in the States. I went on a road trip through South Dakota with a friend of mine who is a local from the area and it was incredible. We visited the Black Hills National Forest, Mount Rushmore, and the Badlands. We also saw a few fun local monuments like The Corn Palace, a grand multi-purpose center, completely built out of corn. South Dakota is the agricultural heart of the States, and it is filled with beautiful history and a lot of natural pride. Speaking of which, the next city I visited was Philadelphia. For all you movie fans out there, Philly was the city that Rocky was filmed in. It’s got a rich Italian-American and Irish-American heritage. If you pop by the Reading Terminal Markets, you can find Amish farmers selling their organic produce. Take a walk through the city streets that are just drenched in history, and don’t forget to pick up a cheesesteak sandwich! Geno’s was my personal favorite, but you should definitely try as many places as you can. I lived in the USA for a couple of years, yet I barely scratched the surface of what this incredible country has to offer. Whether you want to chill on stunning beaches in Hawaii or trek through the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, this country truly has something for everyone.
