I haven't purchased a HP item in close to a decade - I use the books I already had as doorstops or to prop a laptop up for meetings nowadays.
There is NO "death of the author" with JK Rowling - she controls and continues to profit from her IP, and uses that money to fund hate groups.

there are still people in the notes of that thread failing to grasp that this isn't a hypothetical for me. I know trans people up here who had their front door covered with 'I ❤️ JKR' and 'adult human female' stickers. there are active terf groups who harrass queer cafés and bookshops and use her name as an in-group identifier on signs and t-shirts at protests and at pride. she actually personally funded a trans exclusionary women's crisis centre in edinburgh, after her followers hounded and harrassed an inclusive service into shutting down. she is a tangible threat to trans people here.

DON’T MIND ME REVISITING OLD POSTS OUT OF NOSTALGIA BUT -- lmao @ this one: I didn’t stay in Painting for long. I’m now an Intermedia student and I make textile art! The gal can embroider, people. I wrote Starving Artists when I still very much had a ‘hee haw aren’t artists mad look at how weird performance art is’ mentality, and all I really knew how to do was wield a pencil and take the odd photograph.
I miss this bunch. Art school is actually 1000000% more stressful than everyone ever thought. I would dearly like to go back to writing crack and eating satsumas constantly.

Final Exhibition: Artists’ Statements. Featuring Gwendolyn Gordon from final year painting, Scorpius Malfoy from second year photography, Lucy Weasley from first year intermedia and Tarquin Llewelyn from final year sculpture.
my own final exhibition (psst: I’m with G. Gordon in painting) is drawing closer, so I thought I’d draw the starving artists gang talking about their work. I shoehorned them all into a different discipline that befits their personalities - Gwendolyn/Raven making dark art, Scorpius being pretentious and cool, Lucy BS'ing and Tarquin smashing things.
please excuse the derpiness of the drawings (I’ve no idea how I got into art school) but I did these whilst watching Daria, so…

WE DO HAVE THIS FIC. It’s still bubbling away somewhere! I did some drafting of scenes as Rose (I feel like I was writing as Rose, and Gina was writing as Scorpius?)
I think Hugo being a pro-life seahorse was the finest moment of our plotting.
I’d love to approach the topic of teen pregnancy in fiction one day. One of my close friends is working on the state of sex education in schools for a project, and it’s got me thinking about how clueless I’d be about it all if I didn’t have sensible friends and the internet. I’d love to write a story about a girl who gets an abortion, and it’s fine. I think that’s how I should have ended Weather for Ducks, to be honest.
Anyway, one day, hopefully one of us will make headway with this! And maybe we can all still hold out for a fic by justonemoresweet.
peppersweet and I actually have a Rose fic idea about just that, buried deep in a google doc somewhere. We have a great title and we’d get to mash up our pennames into something silly, so when we are both miraculously free in our schedules, we’ll try to make something out of it, even if it’s dreadfully short. There are tropes we want to skew (angry Ron!), and we’d want treat it seriously not but preach (pregnancy is not the only thing that defines you!), and address the variety of uncomfortable reactions, while having our usual flair of course (probably won’t make it past our notes: Hugo being a seahorse and offering to carry the child).
It’s so important to see diverse experiences represented in fiction; it normalizes discussing these topics and provides examples to point to, and it really does make an incredible impact when you stumble along a character that finally gets you and a story that finally gets it right. That’s the ideal I strive toward when making characters.
If anyone knows of a story that fits anon’s criteria, do share!

HI HI HELLO!! sorry I didn’t respond to this for 5 centuries, real life has been slamming me and I’ve only logged into this tumblr about once since July. This is such a lovely message to receive!!! I am doing well, thank you so much! After spending a few of my teenage years writing an extended HP-related fantasy about going to art school, I actually did go to art school, and it’s great. I will never have a job, but I’m having the time of my fucking life.
Thank you for taking the time to send this!!! I hope you’re also doing well - have a nice day, week, month, year. <3
