A bunch of headcanons for Re:Zero × My Little Pony crossover

• Subaru got his cutie mark the moment, in his very first loop, he took Emilia's hand as he died, promising to save her. His mark is a pixelated heart (like a heart shaped health bar in a video game). It obviously represents his ability to reset, but also his ability to love and care

• Otto's cutie mark is red. He's an Earth Pony and often laments that nature didn't grant him horn or wings, because then he could have gotten out of many tough situations with fewer losses

• Earth Ponies are physically very strong compared to light, flying Pegasi and graceful Unicorns, but even as an Earth Pony, Subaru is laughably weak for the world of Re:Zero

• Theresia tried different activities for years hoping to get a 'peaceful' cutie mark, but she remained a blank flank until she picked up a sword and joined the war. Months passed before she could bring herself to look at it

• Echidna actually found a way to become an Alicorn, but she thought flying would be too much trouble with her poor physique, so she stayed a Unicorn

• Reinhard was one and only Astrea with his cutie mark being Dragon Sword itself

• if one is possessed by spirit then their cutie mark disappears. Scarfidna needed to hid the lack of mark but fortunately it wasn't hard since Ana was always covered with clothes

Soulmate AU but soulmates is an Earth thing

Imagine Subaru having a bunch of soulmates whom he couldn't find and then boom he's in another world. So that's it! They must be here! And this silver-haired girl must be first of them! He knows it! Only... she's not familiar with the very concept of soulmates. And her spirit don't know about it too.

Oh... but that's fine! Even if only he knows it they are still soulmates!

It took a few loops for him to meet another soulmate. Reinhard. And there is not even a hint of recognition in his eyes just like it was with Satella. Subaru wants to stay and talk and laugh and cry but he has an assassin in loot house. He will find Reinhard later.

Arc 2 is tough from the first loop because people can't understand why is he acting like they are friends. Subaru needs to come in term with the fact that they are his soulmates but he is not theirs. He decides to build this connection himself anyway.

He is soulmate of almost everyone in Emilia camp +Reinhard and Julius

Meeting with kid Regulus

Context: child Subaru finds himself in the world of rz when he sleeps irl

As he looked around, something unnaturally white in this summer forest caught his attention.

- Hmm?

Carefully walking forward, he pushed the shrubbery apart as he approached the white spot. The "spot" was a boy sitting under a tree with a mop of unsightly snow-white hair, wearing an equally white shirt that was stained with mud in places. He looked to be a few years younger than Subaru.

The child's face was as symmetrical as it could ever be. He didn't have any moles, small scars, or just distinctive facial features. It seemed that if you mixed all the children on earth, the result would be just such a face. An arithmetic average with not enough individuality for the eye to latch onto. Someone who could easily get lost in the crowd and disappear from your consciousness if you took your eyes off him.

Subaru would have thought the same thing if the boy's face hadn't been as pale as office paper, and his nose wasn't dripping scarlet blood that rolled down his lip and dripped from his chin onto his light-colored pants. The boy's eyes were half-closed, leaving only a thin strip of visible whites, and a vapor protruded from his forehead.

Immediately jumping up to the child, Subaru placed his palm on his wet forehead. It was hot.

And then the yellow eyes opened, giving Subaru such full of resentment and displeasure look that he froze. And then a weak hand slapped his wrist.

- Who... let you... touch me...? Don't you know... that it's simply impolite... and even in the highest degree... rude to touch people without their permission...? Why are you letting yourself-

- I'm sorry, I'm sorry! - Subaru exclaimed perplexedly, raising his hands palms forward in response to the boy's weak voice. - I wanted to help. You look really bad! Where are your parents?

- Look bad? - the boy seemed to be coming to life. - What a rude conclusion... And even if it were true, why do you think... as if I need someone else's help? Why do you allow yourself to... insult me, assuming I'm incapable of taking care of myself? Who gave you the right to decide for me whether I need help or not? - The child said irritably.

Subaru didn't even know how he should react. When he rushed towards the boy, he clearly didn't expect him to run him over with accusations. But it wasn't that Subaru was too surprised. It was far from the first time he had met a child who was difficult to deal with. Perhaps to some extent he was like that himself... to think of the many pranks he'd pulled on others as well. So Subaru sighed and smiled. The boy in front of him obviously needed help.

- Once again, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you. What's your name? I'm Subaru, and you are? - he asked, wanting to build a dialog and rebuild the trust that had somehow already managed to break down.

- Hn, that's a good place to start. Exchanging names... that's the first step of a civilized acquaintance. I'm Regulus Corneas, - the boy said, his face brightening and apparently accepting the apology.

As soon as Regulus introduced himself, he bent in half, coughing. He seemed to be spitting out his own lungs with a sickening wheezing sound. Coughing, the boy wiped the saliva away with his dirty sleeve with a grimace of disgust. His eyes blazed with righteous rage.

- Disease... such a disgusting thing. How dare the world infringe on my right to have a healthy body and enjoy my humble life? - hissed the child in a surprisingly resentful tone. Tears began to form in the corners of his eyes.

The boy was genuinely angry at the world for what it was putting him through. Was it fair that since he was a child he was being punished like this for sins he hadn't even committed yet?

Regulus' head began to shake, as if he was having trouble keeping it straight. His consciousness began to slip away. Subaru perked up, seeing this, and shook the boy by the shoulders, ignoring the fiery disgruntled look.

- Where's your family? Home?

Regulus raised a shaky hand and pointed somewhere to his right, never stopping to stare judgmentally at the man who had so unceremoniously grabbed him by the shoulders. After a second, the disgruntled look in his yellow eyes unfocused and the boy's eyes rolled back.

Subaru scooped him up so Regulus' shoulder wouldn't hit the ground and took the boy in his arms. The child was surprisingly light. Through the thin white shirt, Subaru could easily count his ribs. He walked to the right, passing trees and skirting bushes. As he made his way past a blackberry bush, he noticed a few white threads on its thorns. So he was heading in the right direction. The threads were definitely from Regulus' shirt.

As he made his way further along, he heard an auking. Several voices were echoing under the canopy of trees at once.

- Boooy!

- Reguluuus!

- Come back!

Subaru gathered air into his lungs and shouted:

- I found him!!!

At such a loud sound, the lost one twitched and briefly opened his uncomprehending eyes. But after a second his consciousness slipped away again.

A man ran toward Subaru and slowed down when he saw the strange black-haired child. Soon other people appeared as well. A brief moment of awkward silence was broken by Subaru.

- I take it this is yours? - he said, tilting his head to the side.

- Y-yes,- said a man with yellow eyes like Regulus' ones.

The elder Corneas took his son and looked around at the finder.

- Thank you...

- Subaru Natsuki!

- Thank you, Subaru Natsuki, – the man said, bowing his head.

Subaru smiled, feeling like he was about to wake up. He turned on his heels, waved his hand, and started off into the forest.

- Wait!

But Subaru only waved his hand once more, continuing to run.

He's hardly crying. The healer said it's all right.... I guess he's naturally quiet, huh?

He doesn't like to be away from you or Louanna. Use a cloth to carry him. Put his head on your left side so he can hear your heartbeat.

He has begun to crawl. Make sure there are rugs on the floor so he doesn't catch cold. Always check for fallen items or anything else on the floor. Be sure to check the doors to the armory.

Don't panic if he disappeared somewhere. He just crawled away. He's bound to be around somewhere (Louanna has probably found him by now, so don't worry). How does he even manage to disappear! I turned my back for literally just a second!

Make sure he's dressed well and make sure he's eaten. It's not like I don't trust Carol and Grimm, but I just need to know. I...

Get a second blanket if you're sleeping together. Because in the middle of the night, the first one's gonna be on the floor. That one time, it was hanging from the chandelier. How?!

Don't let Father train him! What the hell, Father?! It's too early for that! You started training at 8, and my training started at 4! Reinhardt isn't even 3 yet! What did you think! I'm really glad Mother shares my ideas and made you sleep on the couch.

-Reid dying of old age and for an unknown reason becomes a voice in the head of child Heinkel-

(Inspired by sword god commentary fic by J2X3)

• Heinkel doesn't want to seem insane, so he doesn't tell anyone about the voice that appeared in his head. But those around him notice that something is off because sometimes Heinkel just loses focus and gets lost in thought very noticeably

• Reid comments on everything and everyone in his usual manner

• When Reid first appeared, Heinkel tried to ignore the problem, hoping it would go away. Soon, he had to ask the voice to be quieter for the Dragon's sake, his head is already hurt!

• Reid is indignant because his Sword is gathering dust somewhere

• One day Heinkel unconsciously cursed, having learned it from Reid. He got a scolding and in the future, tried to make sure his behavior didn't change too much because of Reid

• During training, Reid would laugh and give him good and bad advice mixed together for giggles

• When Reinhard is born, Reid gradually starts calling him "our brat." He immediately senses that the child will be terrifyingly strong

• Heinkel is never alone, and that saves him

• When Luanna falls asleep, Reid takes control of Heinkel's body (something he had never done before) to cut her illness. But Heinkel's body immediately collapsed. (For some magical reasons which aren't really important, Reid's soul exists peacefully and doesn't harm Heinkel's body until Reid tries to become its core. If he tries, Heinkel's soul is displaced and, combined with the strain from an unsuitable, too-powerful soul, the body just can't handle it). It will take them several years to solve this problem (but even then, it will still lead to Heinkel spending some time in a coma LOL)

• Heinkel didn't refuse to fight the Whale because Reid was with him (not that he could help with anything besides guiding through the fog, but-). Reid naturally says that it's safer for Heinkel to go alone. Because then he won't have to cover for anyone, you idiot, and if, for some reason, he suddenly feels the need to run away, he won't have to worry about anyone but himself. Theresia thinks it's an elaborate form of suicide. Heinkel gets knocked out and she goes instead of him

• Theresia still dies. Wilhelm still leaves

• Before and after Theresia's death, Heinkel copes by training wia pushing himself to exhaustion. He loses weight, get eyebags and just generally tired all the time. One day, Reinhard manages to count his ribs and heroically decides to fatten up his poor father. He receives several divine protections for this. Heinkel couldn't eat much then, but he thanked and hugged his son for a long time

• Heinkel coughs up blood from time to time (because of the harsh but subtle training of shifting his soul so that Reid can briefly become the core and cut the damn disease). He thinks nobody knows. Reinhard knows.

• The events of OATIL still happen, but Heinkel almost kills the assassins (because with Reid in his head, he never forgets to bring his sword)

• Heinkel secretly goes to Garitch to get healed. Garitch says that he's doing something very unhealthy and should stop. Heinkel, of course, doesn't stop

What if Earthlings created the uncanny valley effect for the inhabitants of the Re:Zero world?

Well, maybe our proportions and theirs differ by a few measly millimeters because we evolved, and they... were apparently created once by Od Laguna and that's it, no millions of years of genetic struggle (I refuse to believe in evolution in fantasy worlds. With trillions of sentient races, it's unrealistic).

Al would find another reason not to take off his helmet because of this.

Subaru wouldn't understand why everyone is shying away from him. He'd blame his mom's scary eyes. Deeper connection could have developed between him and Emilia from the very beginning (both are very scary by the standards of this world). And Rem in the second arc… well…

Wild rumors would spread about him. He'd be the last of some demi-human species, or a spirit, or a humanoid witchbeast, or cursed, or just some kind of benevolent weirdo. Or maybe just sick?

If they believe in yokai somewhere in Kararagi, those guys with the Kansai dialect would classify him as one.

But how strange would the idea of human evolution be for the inhabitants of the rz world? Well, they have something similar themselves. They power up in battles, dragons transformed into dragonkins (am I spelled it right-), spirits with their evolution. But what about the evolutionary process that lasted millions of years? The process where literal animals stood on two legs and gained intelligence? And Subaru is one of those.

• Otto is skinny and covered in small scars from countless scrapes. He believes he has gray hairs, but they're invisible because he was essentially born with gray, sorry, ashy hair (he's probably right).

• Frederica is muscular (like brother, like sister).

• Julius knows the taste of stolen apples, and he has old scars from scraped knees under his pants.

• When learning to crawl, Reinhard repeatedly disappeared in unclear directions, giving his parents heart attacks.

• Astreas have red eyelashes.

• During her unhappy childhood, Anastasia definitely broke things and made medical splints out of shit and sticks.

• Meteor prosthetic limbs were invented in Gusteko.

• Regulus was a terribly sickly child.

• Emilia has snow-white skin, while Satella's is slightly grayish.

• People in the world of Re:Zero don't actually have things like appendixes, tailbones, and wisdom teeth.
