One of these days I really need to figure out what this example sentence in my Middle Egyptian textbook was taken from:
Tumblr media
mk wi Hr spr n.k, n sDm.n.k st. iw.i r Smt, spr.i Hr.k n inpw.
"Look, I've been petitioning/making complaints to you, but you don't listen. I will go, so I can make a complaint about you to Anubis!"
Who said this? Where is it from? Was it written in a city where Anubis was the local god, so it makes sense to go to him with complaints about people not listening to your petitioning, or did this person just straight up say "you haven't been listening to my complaints so I'm making a complaint about you to the FUNERAL GOD!!" I need to know.
Anyway, here's just the "I will go so I can make a complaint about you to Anubis" bit if you want to threaten people with this in your own life:
Tumblr media
Also a blank version, where you can put a different god's name at the end, if you want to complain to, IDK, Sekhmet or Shezmu instead.

Two years ago, when I first started writing House of the Sun, the very first character that came to life was Horus the Younger, a god often overshadowed or fused with his elder counterpart in most modern media.
When I work with deities representation in my story, the first step is always that of diving into ancient Egyptian art and gather as many images and references as possible. When I was working on Horus, I noticed something unique that has stuck with me ever since.
Horus is one of the few male gods who is more frequently depicted alongside other male gods than with female goddesses. And when goddesses do appear beside him, they’re usually maternal figures. Even Hathor, whose name literally means “She who carries Horus in her womb”, was originally considered his mother, not his consort. A shift in role that occurred much later, especially during the Ptolemaic period.
The more I looked at Horus’s iconography, the clearer it became: he is constantly surrounded by male figures: his father Osiris, his brother Anubis, his rival Set, and other gods like Wepwawet. Even in Kom Ombo, Horus shares a temple with Sobek, forming a rare divine dyad of two male gods.
Now, while Sobek clearly prefers women, both in mythology and in House of the Sun, Horus the Younger is a different story. He represents change. A spark of revolution. From his unique powers to his personal struggles, even his preferences, Horus is the storm that brings balance. He is the force that breaks the cycle of isolation and emotional repression passed down through his family line like a disruptive gene.
In House of the Sun, Horus is confident in who he is, even if society isn’t quite ready for it. He lives in a world where roles are fixed and rules are old, but he’s here to challenge all that. As the god of protection and kingship, he understands that part of his duty is to protect his truth, and one day, lead others toward a more accepting future.

Can you help me in regards to Ancient Egypt? From what I've read, women's place there was relative good, they could get divorce, they could study equally with men, they could hold jobs and be paid equally and they could wander outside their house without a male escort. So why then Ancient Egyptians were so against to the idea of having a female ruler, that when a woman tried to ascend the throne, they either imposed her to the position of regent, tried to bring her down and even erase her name from history (like with Hatshepsut's case)? Or am I getting something wrong?
the key word here is 'relative'. relatively more freedoms and opportunities =/= no patriarchy.
i'm not an egyptologist tho so i can't confirm or dispute any of these claims about ancient egyptian culture (which btw spans 3000+ years and thus was subject to change).
