And before anyone tries to do mental gymnastics , Katniss literally spells it out for you in Chapter 13, Mockingjay.
“This is what they've been doing. Taking the fundamental ideas behind Gale's traps and adapting them into weapons against humans. Bombs mostly. It's less about the mechanics of the traps than the psychology behind them. Booby-trapping an area that provides something essential to survival. A water or food supply. Frightening prey so that a large number flee into a greater destruction. Endangering off-spring in order to draw in the actual desired target, the parent. Luring the victim into what appears to be a safe haven—where death awaits it. At some point, Gale and Beetee left the wilderness behind and focused on more human impulses. Like compassion. A bomb explodes. Time is allowed for people to rush to the aid of the wounded. Then a second, more powerful bomb kills them as well.”
So it was Gale and Beetee, but Gale was the one who gave the idea and Beetee helped him make it possible.
don’t hate me for this but i lowkey think that the people that hate gale read thg as a love story

Idk him designing a plan to kill innocent civilians by applying his snare knowledge, (trapping offspring to lure their parents) wasn’t very cash money of him. Oh yeah the bomb, too. Also, like his involvement in Prim’s death and going “Oh yeah your sisters' death ruined my chance with you” to a grieving girl isn't very cash money, as well.

You can dislike or hate Gale, it’s okay. Just like it’s okay to dislike Haymitch, Cato, or even Peeta. Hate how people moral police peoples views on fictional characters.

Katniss in CF: Peeta is just my friend. That’s it. His love guilts me, and I can't focus on kissing. Gosh.
Also Katniss: why tf is Peeta not making out with me? What a terrible friend! I swear, where are my hugs and kisses 😤

The symbolism of Katniss and Peeta’s children is one of the most beautiful and profound parts of these books. First, the gender of their children. The Everdeen family had all girls and the Mellark family, all boys. But together, Katniss and Peeta had one girl and one boy. Combing, or perhaps breaking, the Mellark and Everdeen cycle. Bridging the two families together in a way that was unthinkable before.
Second, the birth order. When Katniss tells us that she gave birth first to a daughter, it reminds me of how Katniss as a first child (or first daughter) is protective of her younger sibling, Prim. And throughout Peeta’s childhood, he was missing a protector. His older brothers, who probably suffer the same abuse, did not quite protect him or shelter him the same way Katniss did for Prim. And while this is no one’s fault but their parents, it breaks my heart to know Peeta was beaten and abused, and none of his brothers protected him the way I know Katniss would have. But now, a Mellark boy is being protected by their older sibling, a sister like Katniss. Maybe something young Peeta yearned to have, but beautifully his son does have now.
And lastly, the physical descriptions of their children. Merchant and Seam were divided, there was a division in D12, and their physical descriptions are proof of that. Seam typically had olive skin, gray eyes, and black hair. Merchant had pale skin, blue eyes, and blonde hair. Katniss’s parents tried to bridge that division but failed—shown by Katniss only having that Seam look and Prim, the Merchant look. But Peeta and Katniss successfully brought together D12, destroying the division. With the girl having black hair and blue eyes, and the boy with blonde hair and gray eyes. There no longer is merchant or seam, there is only D12 with its beautiful meadow of love, joy, hope, and safety, all for the next generations to enjoy and flourish in.

The fact that there are readers who believe that Katniss didn’t care for Peeta until the games is astonishing. Katniss in this passage is telling us that she does care for him, cares for the boy with the bread. Beyond even her comprehension. She loves him, she has held affection for him since he saved her life. To think otherwise, you simply do not get her character.
If anyone wants to doubt Katniss's love for Peeta, please see these words from the girl on fire herself:
"...the idea of actually losing Peeta hit me again and I realized how much I don't want him to die. And it's not about the sponsors. And it's not about what will happen back home. And it's not just that I don't want to be alone. It's him. I do not want to lose the boy with the bread."
We're only in the first book and she's saying she doesn't want to lose him not for a strategy, or how other people would treat her, or even because of her own loneliness. It's him. There is no other reason Katniss wants to keep him alive other than him. For nothing she can gain or exchange or trade. This is simply love in its purest form.

I love your butterfly effect input, I never thought about it like that. Shows you how far kindness, affection and compassion can go.
If Katniss had been reaped without Peeta do you think he would go talk to her before she got on the train? To confess his love?
And do you think Katniss would go talk to him if he was reaped without her? To thank you for the bread?

Why am I crying in my kitchen after taking two shots of tequila . This is beautiful
Tumblr media
"Always."
In the twilight of morphling, Peeta whispers the word and I go searching for him. It's a gauzy, violet-tinted world, with no hard edges, and many places to hide. I push through cloud banks, follow faint tracks, catch the scent of cinnamon, of dill. Once I feel his hand on my cheek and try to trap it, but it dissolves like mist through my fingers. (Mockingjay)
@charlunday I am GIDDY over your stunning representation of this scene! His hands gently cradling her face and hair, the way they’re all misty and already dissolving, the tear rolling down her cheek, the eye contact between them!!! It’s perfect!!! Thank you so much for taking my commission! 💜

I think it's similar to how Gale throws Peeta's hijacking to her face. When he tells her that he's basically been following the same rule book the Capitol used to hijack Peeta, and this is shortly after Peeta strangled her and she's so distraught. Her response is “cruel but to the point,” and to shut up. But she doesn't really hold it against him, because she knows that's how they are. So, I think both Katniss and Gale can be unknowingly/knowingly cruel.
To Gale, maybe he thought by using Peeta hijacking, he got his point across to her. It's cruel because he's weaponizing her feelings for Peeta and her anguish over his hijacking to get that point across. To Katniss, she's trying to refute Peetas cease-fire and make him see why the rebellion needs to happen. Maybe it was her way to reach out to him, to let him know what they had done to his home and family. But in reality, she's weaponizing his family and friends' deaths to make her point. Maybe she does or doesn't realize how cruel it is, but I think both Gale and Katniss will go low because that's how they are. It's like Haymitch with Katniss at times, or vice versa.
In contrast, when Peeta does it to some extent— mockingly calling her Sweetheart, his era of hijacked Peeta—her reaction is physical pain and suffering, and taking it very personal. It feels like a slap to the face, she feels personally attacked. Because to her, that is not her Peeta, and he can't be like that. It's why she needs him because she needs to see there is still goodness and compassion in the world. And when he isn't like that, her only response is death and destruction.
katniss is usually so soft and gentle with peeta. and very reverent of the fact that he is alone now. with none of his family left after the firebombing.
so it really confuses me when she specifically asks cressida to get a shot of her in the ruins of the bakery. where she then directly addresses peeta and says “none of your family has been heard since the bombing. twelve is gone. and you’re calling for a cease-fire?… there’s no one left to hear you (mj, 114).
it just seems uncharacteristically… cruel. invoking his dead family like that. using them against his cease-fire position. a position that i thought was understood to be mostly the capitol using him.
and she says she is exhausted saying this. but i feel that is a better place to be than your entire family dead. and it is pretty easy to say what she said when her family is protected in district thirteen. when there are people left who love her.
i mean, it is a pretty badass propo line. but cruel nevertheless.

She saw his mother physically hurting the boy with the bread, and that doesn’t fly with Katniss. She constantly insulting Mrs. Mellark shows how much she doesn’t like her. She’s ride and die for that boy, even when she’s convinced she’s going to kill him 😂
Peeta doesn't say anything bad about his mother the entire series, but Katniss is constantly insulting her in her thoughts and I think that's beautiful.

Thank you :) I completely agree
When do you think Katniss fell in love with Peeta? By the end of book one or by sometime in CF?
The amount of times I've argued with people on reddit about this question😭😭.
But here's what I think, I don't think there was a specific moment she fell completely in love. There are a lot of moments I think that let her build up on this and it surely took time, especially because Katniss likes to suppress her feelings it's hard to pinpoint it. But by CF she is for sure in love with him. We get so many examples of her falling throughout the second book, for example seeking the comfort of his arms on the victory tour, or those days she spends watching him paint while stuffing her self with cheesebuns. And something I was recently reminded of:
Tumblr media
She basically admits here that she easily could've been pregnant, had she let her guard down a little more and letting her feelings for Peeta take control of her. Point is CF is a build up to what Katniss had already begun feeling in the first games.
In the first games I completely believe that she has feelings for him, was she die hard in love with him? Probably not. But she cared for him immensely and those feelings were just beginning, because no person in their right mind would risk their life like that for their district partner, while leaving behind a whole family waiting and depending on them. And Peeta was able to sense this, that her feelings weren't completely fake ( we all know Kat can't act for shit) and that's why he was so heartbroken because he felt utterly deceived after seeing her so convincingly reciprocating his love, then finding out it was a lie.
In other words her feelings started in in the first books, but she was completely and irrevocably in love with him only by CF.

Yay so excited for this! Thanks :)))
Begging on my hands and knees for you to make a full-length or multiple chapters of that “It's complicated” and “What if” dabble. So freaking good, please
🥰 Thank you!! 🤗
I’ve got a couple more ideas for snapshots in this universe, but not necessarily a plot because I don’t really want to give them heavy conflict. I just want them to be happy.
In the meantime, I moved Complicated and What If? to a new work on Ao3 in anticipation of more 🤞😬🤞
Feel free to send prompts!!
