The Republicans have decided we no longer need bees and are defunding the USGS Bee Lab. Please tell your friends, your representatives, local beekeepers, crafting clubs, your classmates, and everyone who has ever seen a bee that this is happening and that the Republicans are behind it. Scream about this. We in the professional bug world make fun of the bee people for having some of the only consistent funding and support in the whole field, but now even that is going away. Write it on your car. Tell someone at the store. Email your professor. Make a tiktok. Draw it on the sidewalk. Do NOT let them sneak this by.

in my uni's vet hospital we have a lovely fistulated bull that lives here and helps the patients by donating his ruminal liquid to other cows/goats/sheep that are having any trouble with their gut fauna :) so that is also a good reason to fistulate a cow

this could be a little disturbing (not sure what to cw it as? non lethal unnatural hole?) but have you ever heard of fistulated cows? :O

i got to see some during school and even got to stick my arm in one! it was gross :D ! very warm, mushy, and damp but something I'll never forget haha. also got to milk a cow, hang out with calves, and artificially inseminate a cow uterus!

for those tht dont know, a fistulated cow has a lil porthole in their side that grants access to a part of their stomach! its mostly for research purposes (general research on cow digestion, or specific things like making sure the grass theyre eating is nutritious enough) but can also be used for treating digestive issues !

On April 16th 2025 the US federal government has proposed to change the interpretation of the endangered species act so that it no longer protects habitat.

This is open for public comment until the end of May 19th. Please comment and make your voice heard.

Wildlife need their habitat. If the ESA redefines harm so that habitat is no longer protected, the implications for wildlife would be catastrophic.

Spirit Keeper Animal Sanctuary (you may know Lori Torrini from her force free snake training videos!) in Colorado is taking the lead on a large intake of 50-70 ball pythons and one african grey parrot from a heartbreaking situation in Nebraska.

The situation is still unfolding but many of the snakes are underweight and may have other health concerns. Vet care for 50+ animals is not cheap and neither is setting up suitably sized enclosures with proper heating and lighting.
