Today I had the pleasure and honor to catch up with Rob Marra, WHS Class of 92. I don't really remember that last time I talked to him, but it has been a long long time. Rob played freshman basketball for me during the 88-89 season and was certainly one of those players who was a pleasure coach, talented, hardworking, smart and a good listener. Recently, we reconnected through Facebook and by his desire to give back to Watertown. Rob acquired many cases of new sneakers for donation purposes. He reached out to the recreation department and many other organizations to see if we wanted the sneakers to dispurse to those interested. I of course said yes as I was thrilled to be able to catch up and certainly wanted the sneaker donation for our community. Though hard work, dedication, relationship building, vision and perseverance, Rob has developed a very successful family owned Floor and Consulting Company located in Ashland, MA. We took a couple pics, met his son, and daughters, took a tour of his impressive business and then he offered to take me to lunch. I never turn down food. I certainly can not adequately capture our time toghther at lunch. I loved, was deeply moved and impressed listening intently to his remarkable life story. From his tough, difficult, humble beginnings during his youth to the successful businessman, community leader and most importantly family man he has become, I was mesmerized by his remarkable journey. We laughed, shed a tear and certainly enjoyed our time toghther (At least I did). I am so proud of him, wish him and his family continued health, happiness and success and will certainly stay in touch moving foward. Weird how things work out sometimes. I was just catching up a couple of days with my good friend Steve Chirokus, Lexington standout and fellow Stonehill Cheiftan and we were going back in time talking about the good old days. A major part of our conversation was about our friend Ace McCarrick, Dom Savio legend and fellow Chieftan who passed away in January. I attended a funeral yesterday and guess who was in my pocket!!. Special thoughts to his mon, brother, sister, wife and his family and friends on this first Christmas without Ace. Our multi-funtional Victory Field Complex hosted a snow shoeing event today under the direction of Ernie, Jim and the gang.
