Celebration Garden Month April 2021
Spring is coming on strong, and by the calendar is technically already here. If you haven 19t already begun looking at planting this year 19s garden it 19s time to get a move on. The changing weather promises good growing seasons to come, and Garden Month encourages you to get out and start preparing your ground! If you can 19t find the motivation, then let the smell and taste of freshly grown tomatoes tempt you, or the sweet taste you can 19t get from anything from home grown cucumbers, and strawberries. Garden Month is your chance to get out and start preparing the ground!
History of Garden Month
Gardens have played an important role in the history of human culture, from sources of food to locations for leisure and entertainment. They 19ve even been used to produce natural medicinals for the home. The word garden traces its roots to Middle English, French, and German languages, with the word specifically meaning a small enclosed piece of land next to a building in the UK.
There are multiple types of garden, all dependent on the primary purpose and content of the garden. For instance, in arid regions you may have Cactus Gardens, or you may aim for a particular style of aesthetic, such as a Bonsai garden or a Dutch Garden rife with Tulips and an eye to efficiency and a density of foliage. Garden 19s have also been used to create new habitats and resting places for bees, butterfly 19s, and seasonal birds, making them both beautiful and able to aid these creatures whose natural habitats may be diminishing.
While most home gardens are incredibly Informal and relaxed, there 19s also far more formal gardens that adhere tightly to a given style. French Formal and Italian Renaissance gardens adhere to a particular style, and Knot Gardens are extremely formal with specific guidelines that govern their designs. Garden Month is a great time to research gardens and learn more about them.
How To celebrate Garden Month
Like we mentioned above, you can start celebrating Garden Month by studying all the different types of gardens in the world.
If you find yourself intrigued or inspired, you could even go on to making one of your own. Gardens don 19t have to be large, so even if you live on a small plot in the city with a mere sliver of a yard, you could still have your own. Don 19t even have that much space? It 19s time to invest in a selection of pots and make your own potted garden on your windowsills! Gardens can be anywhere, and anyone can garden!

It 19s impossible to do all of your crafting in a single day, which is why we celebrate National Crafting Month every March.

What 19s the difference between crafting and fine art?
The way we see it, fine art is more unstructured and open-ended, expressing an abstract idea or a feeling or set of feelings. In basic terms, it deals with intangibles. Crafting, on the other hand, revolves around the creation of a useful object or item through eye-hand coordination and technique.
In March, it 19s the end of winter and a great time to blossom outward into National Crafting Month to show what you 19ve been making by hand during the short, cold days of the season past.
Admittedly, the word 1Ccrafting 1D covers a whole lot of territory. At one time, the word 1Ccraft 1D was synonymous with 1Ctrade, 1D meaning skilled labor in a particular area, such as weaving, engine repair, carpentry, etc. It was not uncommon for guilds to be founded based upon a shared set of skills in these and other areas of production. But in current times we 19ve come to understand that 1Ccrafting 1D refers to those skills practiced more creatively and with a vision unique to each artisan. Some examples are knitting and crocheting, scrapbooking, leatherworking, wood burning, fly tying, jewelry making, anything created by hand that has an artistic aspect to it but is not strictly 1Cfine art. 1D
So this month, if you 19ve been too busy to focus on your favorite craft, set aside some time and energy and see what you can come up with. You may even want to devote a number of hours to dabbling in a craft other than your favorite.

Celebration Cab Franc Day December 4, 2020
Cabernet Franc is a good red wine to pair with our foods. But what are its origins? To do that, we have to go to France to figure out what Cab Franc Day is all about!
History of Cab Franc Day
Cabernet Franc is believed to have been established in the Libournais region of southwest France sometime in the 17th century, when Cardinal Richelieu transported vine cuttings to the Loire Valley.
They were planted at the Abbey of Bourgueil under the care of an abbot named Breton, whose name became associated with the grape. By the 18th century, plantings of Cabernet Franc (known as Bouchet) were found throughout Fronsac, Pomerol, and St. Emilion making quality wines.
As Cabernet Sauvignon grew more popular in the 18th and 19th century, the close similarity of the two grapes was observed and theories emerged as to the extent of their relationship.
In 1997, DNA evidence emerged to show that Cabernet Franc had crossed with Sauvignon blanc to produce Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc is one of the major black grape varieties worldwide. It is principally grown for blending with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the Bordeaux style, but can also be vinified alone as in the Loire 19s Chinon.
Cabernet Franc is lighter than Cabernet Sauvignon, making a bright pale red wine that contributes finesse and lends a peppery perfume to blends with more robust grapes. Depending on the growing region and style of wine, additional aromas can include tobacco, raspberry, bell pepper, cassis, and violets.
Records of Cabernet Franc in Bordeaux go back to the end of the 18th century, although it was planted in Loire long before that time. DNA analysis also indicates that Cabernet Franc is one of two parents of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Carmenere.
How to celebrate Cab Franc Day
To celebrate Cab Franc Day, we would have a glass of Cabernet Franc while having a wonderful home cooked meal. Pairing a fine wine like Cabernet Franc with a home cooked meal is not only a good way to spend an evening, but it is also a good way to make an evening date all more romantic.
We would also use the Cabernet Sauvignon when throwing a house party so we can all raise our glasses to our successes and our loved ones. When the party has settled down, it 19s a great wine to have while chatting with friends and family.
