When I say "bring back yearning" I mean whatever was going on with these two. Look at the way they're both staring at each other's mouths at the same time like for a split second the mask has slipped and you can see how much they genuinely want each other even though they're trying very hard to hide it. This is what's going on beneath the surface all the time, you just have to freeze frame every millisecond to catch all the little moments where the depth of the mutual pining breaches the surface

Since Im writing a Teslen story, I've been DEEP diving into their characters, and I need to make sure I have them right.

I know I've joked around about them both having the emotional maturity of a rock, but Im starting to get that Nikola is leaps and bounds ahead of Helen in this area, right?

Like, hes not not saying anything because he's in denial, hes not saying anything because she's not. Like, hes just waiting for some indication that she's as on board with them as he is, right?

We saw it a bit in Awakening, when he realized how worried she was, but it wasn't an explicit green light, it was more a 'proceed with caution' yellow and so he pushed just a little and immediately stopped when it went red again.

I feel like hes not actually afraid of how he feels, he just refuses to do anything she's not 100% obviously ok with and since SHE has the emotional maturity of a rock, hes never gotten that, and so he plays by her rules.

And yeah, she admitted she would have chosen him over Will and she kissed him, but I think hes waiting to explicitly hear the words that she wants him like he wants her because he needs that clear, direct permission. No trying to guess at what actions meant, he needs to hear it.

Am I way off base here? That he would wait in the shadows for as long as he has to, but as soon as she gives a blatant green light, that man would have no problem expressing himself and sharing his emotions with her?

Season 5 would have been her in absolute turmoil, him starting to figure out what's going on but refusing to get his hopes up unless she's verbally clear with him, her eventually giving that to him (probably in some stupid life or death situation), and then him just making sure she absolutely never doubts how he feels about her.

Hes not in denial, or incapable of talking about feelings. Hes patient. Hes cautious. And hes respectful.

Thoughts? Cause this is massively impacting how I write them, so if Im wrong, I need to change some things.

I think that it's the latter too. Nikola knew exactly how he had made the devamper and how it worked. He didn't need the sample of it to investigate anything. Just imho.

question for fanfic research purposes: do we know what happened to nikola’s de-vamper after sleepers? i didn’t think he would’ve taken it with him when he left bc he doesn’t have any use for it anymore (nobody does, actually, since there are now zero vampires in the world) but maybe he would’ve kept it so he could try to figure out how to reverse its effects himself? or else helen kept it and it ends up just sitting in her vault with the rest of her mementos? i was thinking the latter was more likely but now i’m not sure
