Week Review, 24th January 2017
the final session for narrative theory was mostly a recap on some main points from the previous weeks, which was a big help for me as i do tend to forget things despite taking notes, the presentations are good but sometimes i need a more vocal clarification. the next topic was a ‘masterclass in visual storytelling’ as we analysed a scene from snowhite and a short animated movie taking notes on when the direction foreshadows or portrays something in a certain way. I discussed my film of choice with Lindsay deciding to do the South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut as i thought it would provide a lot to write about with question 3. the theme of the movie is hot button subject that hopefully will give me enough to explore.

Week Review, 16th January 2017
In this session we went over multiple things, such as the shapes of stories, 3 act or 5 act structure and the essay question we will implement in to our essay. although i felt some of this stuff was tread in form the previous essay I didn't mind all to much as it became a somewhat refresher especially when relating back to volgers work whom I read during the last project. we also learned of the essay questions, which to my sunrise varied quite a lot from each other, some relying on the films story to be told while others were more directed towards the meaning. Ill think about a film to do that will provide me a decent subject to write about.

this lesson was primary based around distinguishing the difference between story and plot using examples on how a plot rearranges the story and displays the events. then we went over the unique visual identity that animation can produce compared to live action. we watched this cool animation called ‘Bottle’ a stop motion piece that uses sand and snow to make living characters as they interact through no sound or facial movements but from action alone its medium allows it to convey the story unlike how live action can. I thought the film was a great example of what is possible through the form.

thus I start the next topic for essay writing and that is narrative. in the first lesson we discussed the differences between a story and narrative and how they are told to which was interesting as i have always interpreted them as the same thing. we went over topics such as linear narratives to films that follow a straight formula and different theories for story developments such as Freytags ‘pyramid’. the task was to then dissect a Sainsbury advert and use his theory to highlight the points of interest a task i found a decent warm up to understanding the points.

Censorship In Episodes
Perhaps the most Radical form of censorship that's ever been placed on South Park was in the season 14 2 part episodes 200 and 201, which was in fact the 200th episode. To celebrate the 200 mark Trey wanted to bring a load of different elements from previous seasons into one big shit storm but wanted to keep it from being a clip show. the plot revolves around all the celebrities who have been mocked by the show to join up and sue the town for everything its done with only one scape goat, they must get the Muslim prophet Muhammad and hand him over to the celebrities so they can harness his ability to not be made fun of.
The episode plays on the same theme from the season 10 episodes cartoon wars part 1 & 2. The theme being terrorism, this is shown by the fact that Muhammad is not seen once through any of the episode but instead a giant censor bar is in his place. This was in response due to threats made towards the two creators stating they will end up like the film producer Theo Van Gogh  who was killed while making a film on Islamic culture towards women.
although Trey and Matt weren't letting the threats sway them comedy central ended up bleeping the entire speech at the end of 201 out of safety, the speech has only recently been uncensored but it discusses the aspect of terrorism and how its affective of course taking jabs at comedy central’s cave in although they share no ill feeling towards them.
