Russia issued a single stamp sheet on December 22, 2022 to commemorate the centenary of the USSR. The stamp is embossed and shows the coat of arms of the Soviet Union. The selvage shows the coats of arms of all the 15 constituent Soviet Republics, including those of the Azerbaijan and Turkmen SSRs, which include oil drilling derrick's in their designs. The people of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine and others may not be delighted to be thus reminded of their countries earlier history...

Ukraine issued a sheet of interest in February 15th. It's titled "Warriors of Light, Warriors of Goodness" and includes five stamps showing courageous Ukrainian specialists restoring communications after enemy missile attacks. One of the stamps shows repairing of a gas installation so it's of particular interest to us. You can get the sheet very easily from Alexander, on Delcampe, at: https://www.delcampe.net/en_GB/collectables/stamps/ukraine/ukraine-2023-new-warriors-of-light-warriors-of-goodness-mi-nr-block-188-mnh-1717391482.html https://www.instagram.com/p/Co9mCzkqXUZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

On the selvage there's an image of the oil wells in the Vaca Muerta oil field. Thanks to Hugo Vargas for bringing this to our attention! https://www.instagram.com/p/CnUDOMZrgFN/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Now you see it, now you don't! We recently announced a new issue from Norway. It had an oil production platform in the background. Now we've got the actual stamp, there is NO OIL RIG. Apparently the design was changed between the advance publicity and the actual issue. So this one won't be in Petroleum Stamps of the World! https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl0ypElrmKp/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

For their 52nd National Day on 18th November, Oman issued a stamp showing the new Duqm refinery. The refinery is in construction on 900 hectares of land at the Special Economic Zone of Duqm, about 600km south of Muscat. It is expected to commence production by the end of 2023, and is a joint venture between Oman Oil Company and Kuwait Petroleum International. Unfortunately the stamp is only available in a sheet of 15 stamps, the remainder of which are of less interest to us! https://www.instagram.com/p/Clo7m4eLFBE/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Petroleum Philatelic Society International record all oil and gas related stamps but here's one from 1998 that seems to have been missed, despite it having been issued by the USA, the heartland of our membership. The stamp shows a share certificate, torn in two following the stock market crash in 1929. The certificate shown reads that it is from the "Gas and Electricity Company", but research reveals that the US Post Office have adapted a share certificate from the "Associated Gas and Electricity Company" to create this stamp, the vignette and signatures being identical. Associated went bankrupt in the 1930s before it's reorganisation under the supervision of the courts. https://www.instagram.com/p/Ckwa0CYq_9J/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Norway released an Innovation at Sea issue on 1st October, which included this 20g international rate stamp for the Hywind Tampen. This is a floating wind power project comprising 11 wind turbines, that will provide energy to 5 oil platforms, supplying some 35% of their annual electricity power requirement, and reducing their CO2 emissions by 200,000 tonnes. An oil platform is included in the background of the design, making it of particular interest to us. https://www.instagram.com/p/CkqkniBqfkM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Slovakia issued a single Eur 1.00 stamp on September 23rd to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the launch of the International System for the Transmission of Gas via Slovakia. This is the Eustream network that originally transmitted gas from east to west but which has been modified and through parallel pipelines now allows transmission in various directions. The system presently allows gas purchased on European markets to be sent to the Ukraine. As of 2022 the system is also linked to Polish LNG terminals in the Baltic Sea as well as to the Adriatic Krk LNG terminal in Croatia. https://www.instagram.com/p/CjBkvhcr1V8/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

IGPC announced, with commendable speed, their new issues of stamps following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8th, getting their press release out in under 6 hours of the announcement. Unfortunately though, although the press release talked about stamps being issued for some 10 different Authorities represented by IGPC, they managed to show only 3 of the stamps, with one of them being shown twice in the release. A bit of a case of more haste, less speed? https://www.instagram.com/p/CiSQVAPKOU5/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Saar issued a set of 3 charity stamps in June 1933, to raise money for victims of the Neunkirchen disaster on February 10, 1933. The disaster was the explosion of a gasometer, which resulted in the death of 68 people, around 190 injured and devastation in the area.
