I just had a lightbulb moment, y'all. Which, yeah, I sure took my sweet time. Except I'm not sure if the bulb lit up, or if I just had a short.

Are the MB books essentially about trauma and how people/ships/other sentient entities respond to it and how it changes every aspect of said person/ship/other sentient entity's life?

See, I actually do have a degree in literature. Wow. I think I need to give it back.

excuse me but they are dating. your honor. they are not romantically Together and don't experience romance or attraction in any way but they are in fact dating. yes i know neither one will elaborate on what their relationship is. but consider. the secunit and the bot-pilot are a couple who are not In Love but experience a level of devotion to and trust in each other that would rival some married couples. and also ART is essentially asking murderbot to be its partner by asking it to stay with it for a mission. i don't like using human relationship terms for these two's situation but they're just Together and i don't have better words for it. your honor.

murderbot's primary combat tactic is to go up a wall. that's its favorite move. no one ever sees it coming, man. its second favorite combat tactic is to body tackle entities in the face. nothing on or off the planet is funnier than murderbot fighting like a flying squirrel

I'm so normal about murderbot and ART. I'm so normal about it, you don't even know. ART cleaning the ship and yelling at its crew to put their laundry away bc Mensah is coming aboard does not make me want to roll around on the floor shrieking. I did not almost die when murderbot said it wanted to keep being with ART. not even a little. I'm so so so so so so so normal about all of it. so normal

So, in Artificial Condition, MB and ART are watching Worldhoppers, and there's this scene:

"At the climax of one of the main story lines, the plot suggested the ship might be catastrophically damaged and members of the crew killed or injured, and the transport was afraid to watch it. (That's obviously not how it phrased it, but yeah, it was afraid to watch it.)"

And then the whole Situation with Barish-Estranza and the grey people, and-

I identify as Murderbot, because I, too, feel like staring at a wall for a good while when I go too long without watching my equivalent of Sanctuary Moon.

So we know Iris is ART's Ratthi. But who will Three's Ratthi be?

One of MB's Preservation humans? A different Preservation human? Or one of ART's crew? Or a yet unknown character, possibly Holism's crew person?

Or maybe it will pull a Murderbot, wander off on its own and decide it does not need a Ratthi.

Either way, I NEED at least a tiny novella about Three.

But I also think that its murderousness comes from its trauma. It lost its team once, and now it's wiling to do anything to make sure it never happens again. And we know it's very stubborn and determined anyway.

the "You won't let hostages stop you." / "I will not." exchange at the beginning of system collapse chapter 10 is making me insane.

smth about ART just. utterly worms its way into me. its the [ i can bomb the colony / i lack a sense of proportional response ] of it. how the humans treat ART like a person, because it is one, but that it isn't one in the same way they are—that its priorities are fundamentally different, that it is distanced from humanity and emotion. it can simulate things, can lean on murderbot to help it interpret, can acquiesce to the humanity of its crew, but it's different. and in these little moments it comes through.

i dunno how to accurately describe it or really pinpoint what i'm picking up on. but i am so fascinated by ART

One of my favorite Murderbot things is when the enemy is like: "time to be hostile! Security system, take care of that threat!"

And the security system is standing there metaphorically holding hands and making a friendship bracelet with Murderbot like: "Oh shit, there's a threat? Where!?" *turns to murderbot* "Did you see anything?"
