well i KNOW the "correct" choice is caterpillar daughter bc she wont end up stabbing me or running away or whatever. but im going to go with wyvern son... i think i can raise him right i just need to give him plenty of time with his friends and let him on my ipad. 💞💞💞💞💞 and hold his hand during all the brain injections

Twig Liveblog for Arc 19

mostly a dreary, murky collection of battles, the bulk of which a more savvy reader than me would've skipped. sucker that i am, though, i read through all of it . . . over the course of six months or so. the interesting things could've fit within a few chapters (certainly not fifteen!), so i'll remark on those and just skip over the rest of it:

i enjoyed, no surprises, the spectral presence of the infante throughout. a kind of terminal point for sy's fractured psyche -- as indeed the infante is for mine as well -- signalling just how close he is to the psychic abyss. perhaps the fractured quality of our protagonist's mind accounts for the unintelligibility of some of the scenes here...

of course, the real meat of the arc is the intra-lamb interaction, sorely missed over the previous few arcs. sy being literally collared and chained is a, let's say, vivid image. i think a syllian fanfic that took certain liberties with this section could be popular.

the jessie stuff is most interesting, i.e. heartbreaking. sections like the one where jessie describes how her warped memory makes it feel like syllian was just moments ago was tear-jerking for sure, as was the climactic stabbing. particularly i really enjoyed the scene afterward where lillian talks about how she wants to be mad but can't, and how the lambs truly love each other and that this true love involves acceptance of even their ugliest, most immoral traits. it's a beautiful relationship, an antidote to the crown's fetishistic emphasis on criminal justice. the similar scene between helen and ibbot reinforces this theme, a critique of punishment from beyond good and evil.

anyway, i sure hope there's no more battles in the final arc of twig, and that no more harm comes to the lambs :)

and that the infante wins
