Today I was thinking about how Michelangelo really surpassed the greek classic sculpture, even if he was trying to reach its perfection, he has created something even more perfect that that.

Compared to David, Doriforos seems squat and more simple. He is not worse because of that, he’s just different. Michelangelo didn’t want to make it easy. His effort was not to make just a beautiful human being, but a christian ideal of a king, something truly supreme that just beauty itself - a personality.
