❝ OW ! ❞ HIS VOCALIZED pain is loudly over - exaggerated for the public place, and his hand moves up to rub at his forehead, hoping that would reduce the pain. i’m not ignoring you. i’ve been paying attention to you this entire time. have you not seen my head nods ? c’mon man, you know i have sensitive skin ! ❞ kaito pushes his plate away, and an angry look takes place on his face, hoping to make a statement. it doesn’t take long before he’s broken out of his antics at the mention of milo. suddenly, he’s now sitting up right. ❝ ah, milo ! why couldn’t you have invited him too ? now, that would’ve been a fun dinner party. ❞ kaito’s gone of track now and he knows it, so he shakes his head at the leader basically telling him to ignore any previous comments to get back to the matter at hand: the police. ❝ eh, maybe your lack of worry could seem suspicious to them ? you know, most people would be anxious over gang activity happening in their FRIENDLY, SAFE neighborhood. you should put up at least a small front. ❞ eyebrows knit together momentarily as he thinks over rowan’s latest statement, questions beginning to whir inside his own head. ❝ and what if it’s not red lion activity they’ve been catching around the neighborhood ? ❞
HE WAVES OFF THE OTHER’S yelp, and opts for ignoring the useless expression on kaito’s face. he has never believed a single word that has come out of the younger’s mouth and he doesn’t plan on starting now. “i didn’t flick you that hard. you make it sound like i just rubbed grease on your face.” he scrunches his nose at the idea, and rolls his eyes at the unreasonable antics. there is a reason rowan didn’t invite milo and charlie alone with him, and surely gunhwi will be more bratty than usual—along with the other two—when they find out that the two of them had dinner. rowan could feel his migraine coming already. “i invited you because i happened to notice you on my way home from work. if you two were together, i would’ve just kept driving instead.” he undoubtedly cares about them, in his own way, but he refuses to be around them longer than necessary. “ah, really? should i have been more emotional or reactive?” rowan has never been the type to worry ; he doesn’t think he has anything to be afraid of. “that’s plausible, but that also makes it troublesome. what if it’s who we consider ‘ an enemy ’?”

her fight or flight instincts kick in automatically and she takes a few steps back, but, before she can break into a full run, she hears a shout and sees him making his way towards her. the action from him halts her own steps and suddenly he’s just a few spaces from her. just looking at the man brings back a flood of memories. her eyes start to burn with unshed tears before looking to the ground to avoid his gaze. the last time they spoke was a simple text from him congratulating her on making it through college and asking to meet up soon. she remembers saying thank you and adding smiley faces and hearts and party horn emojis. that’s the type of person she was before she was taken that same night; easily excitable and filled with so much life. now, she felt more like the shell of someone, rather than an actual person.
he’s standing right in front of her, but she still startles when she hears his voice. “no,” comes out without thought. “i mean, yes. w-well, not really, but, um, we really shouldn’t be seen together,” she says, wrapping her arms herself and looking around them to see if anyone has spotted them so out in the open yet.
HE CAN’T HELP BUT STARE as he wonders what exactly is running through her mind. he used to be so good at reading her thoughts. just one look and he’d just know. it hasn’t been long since he had last seen her either, yet looking at her now ... he doesn’t recognize her. there is no way she’s the same person, and he knew this. he can’t imagine what she has experienced, and what she has suffered to be here right now. he doesn’t want to ask, and he doesn’t want to know. he is just happy to see her, even if the air around them is very, very different from what they’re used to.
HE LIGHTS UP A LITTLE when she notes that she’s free, but his face is quick to fall at her next words. he wasn’t expecting her to say yes immediately, but he didn’t think they couldn’t be seen together. he isn’t even sure what it she means ; what did she mean? for once, he’s scared to ask something out loud. his eyes stay focused on her, uncharacteristically and silently pleading for her to come with him. “please,” he mumbles, biting down on his lip behind his mask, “it’ll only be for an hour, if you want. i can cook something at my home if being in public isn’t ideal.”

“My own dad just won’t learn which is sad.” the last thing she wanted to do was change her own number. but if she had to do that, she would. “tried blocking him once but he got another phone to call me.” she tried just about everything except for the last option. but it seemed as if it was the one she had to go with. “I think i might just have to go with that. getting a new number.” even if she didn’t want too, it was all she had left.
ANGEL COULDN’T RELATE TO WHAT it was like to have a real father, let alone a problematic one so she wasn’t too sure how to help. the closest thing she had to real parents was that elderly couple she demanded to never try finding her, and unlike hana’s father, they listened to her. “getting a new number seems like the best option you have.” angel shrugs, before an mischievous grin is on her face. “i could kill him too, if you want,” she’s truthfully half-kidding, “for a friend, no charge, i swear.”

ミ☆ MILO ALMOST NEVER objected when it came to rowan. his word was law. he didn’t have the greatest track record when it came to respect for authority, but with rowan it was different. in some ways he even viewed the other as a fatherly figure. though he knew rowan most likely hated that, which made it all the more fun. ‘ wow, how generous of them. sparing another criminal. ’ and in the next moment, his precious source of nicotine was out of his hand. alarmed, he jolted up, gaze following the the arc in which his baby had been thrown. he sat down slowly, still not completely convinced he wouldn’t run to retrieve it. ‘ my juul! ’ milo exclaimed before clearing his throat, attempting a calmer tone. ‘ it’s like… an e-cigarette. it keeps me focused, i-… i have more, it’s fine. i’m fine. ’
WHEN ROWAN INITIALLY STARTED THE gang, he told himself he wouldn’t get attached to the members. this wasn’t a family away from his blood family, and he made it very clear with himself in the beginning. now, however, he feels like he’s in too deep. the red lions are his family, despite the fact he would never admit it. he cares too much for them, their safety, and their best interests ; he has no doubt that one day the group of misfits will be his downfall. “i’m curious to know what has brought them here to begin with. from what i know, this is a safe place.” he nearly flinches at the surprise in milo’s tone, not anticipating it and unsure of what to do. he eyes the younger male with suspicion, before shaking his head at himself. he shouldn’t care. “nicotine is bad,” says the hypocrite, “finish eating and you can get back to it.”

✧・゚:* A SMALL VICTORY, but one to be celebrated nonetheless. perhaps taewoo’s youthful innocence could provide some therapeutic effects. at that moment she found his presence calming, the only person in the waikikis she didn’t find outright annoying. ‘ not really. ’ she replied after some thought, or perhaps that was because she feared no repercussions. anything was easy when you didn’t care about doing a good job. ‘ there’s nothing wrong with asking for help, kid. i’m sure everyone would bend over backwards to help you. ’ golden boy perks, huh. this brat was so lucky. ‘ there’s no reason to be nervous. there’s nothing wrong with stealing. ’
HAVING HER JOIN HIM MIGHT not be a bad idea if she was experienced. he is not close to many people in the gang, mostly because he keeps to himself—too shy to approach anyone who seems too intimidating—and although she is one of the people who intimidates him, he can’t say that it’s staying that way. she is nice to him and he feels more comfortable around her. dare he say, she almost seems like an older sister figure. “um, well ...” he stratches the back of his neck, unsure of the right thing to say. he’s well aware of the odd number of people who want to help him. “i just don’t want to feel like i’m using them, or constantly depending on them. money goes back to me and my mom ...” he gives her a strange look, almost like she had just offended him. “nothing wrong with stealing? are you hearing yourself?”

Coming across Rowan as she was on her way home with her daughter was unexpected to say the least. what was more unexpected was being invited to dinner. but there she was, with her daughter at Rowans place eating dinner. “the police came by?” she asked, raising an eyebrow as she stopped eating for a moment. It was a shock to her that the police came around. she never really expected it at all. at the same time, it made her nervous. of course the police were keeping an eye on this. she should have known that. but she didn’t. "well i do but just no cursing or anything since you know, my daughter is here too.“ She pointed out before placing the fork down. Looking down at lily who was on her lap, she smiled at her for a moment before looking at rowan again.
HE KNEW THAT HE COULD have a serious conversation about something as important as this with hana. he wasn’t actively searching for her, and planned to maybe call her after speaking to hyunwoo, but it was just his luck that he had run into her on the streets. however, what he wasn’t expecting was to see her holding the hands of a child—her child—and had absolutely no idea she even had one. although still distracted by the small child, he nodded at her question, and chuckled at her warning. his eyes travel back to her own with a frown. “truthfully, i can’t tell what their intentions were with having them come by. it felt like it was borderlining concern and a threat.” he sighs, sitting back in his seat. “i’m not worried for myself, but this means i need to be twice as attentive and that’s f— it’s tedious.”

━ ⋆۵乂 joon looked up, a soft expression now on his face. he hadn’t meant to sound rude or like an asshole but the stammering caught his attention and he threw a smile the young boy’s way. “ don’t be sorry. ” he waved his hand dismissively. lolling his head a little to the side to show he was paying attention. “ yeah of course. go ahead. ” he used his foot to move himself up straight, intrigued to what was going to be asked.
HIS FACE BRIGHTENED AT THE change in demeanor, and he didn’t waste time to straighten himself out so they could properly converse. ( plus, he doesn’t want to seem rude in front of someone as important as seojoon. ) the only thing is now taewoo had to think of another question, because he didn’t think he’d be able to ask it and had forgotten the original. he, however, refused to waste his leader’s time and blurted out the first thing he could think of: “does doing all this—being in a gang—ever leave you with regrets?” no, that was absolutely not the question he should’ve asked, and now he feels stupid about it. “i—i mean, i just ... even though i do something small like stealing, i feel a little bad sometimes ... ”

timeline: over two years ago, a week after being released from the hospital.
after lily spent a month in the hospital and was released, she did her best to integrate herself back into everyday life with other people. it was hard, to put it lightly, but she forced herself to act normal in public. flinching at everyone that walked by her would only do her more harm than good, so she made herself keep her feet moving as she walked down the street. it was something she had taken to after being released; just walking the street. it was good practice for her keeping her composure in front of other people. it was also just nice to have fresh air after being trapped inside for nearly three months.
she didn’t think to take into account, though, one of the only people besides her own father that she would have considered herself close to before the incident. rowan. her eyes focus in on him as he walks out of a building that she can’t see the name of. her body reacts on instinct and she’s already taking a few steps forward until stopping herself in her tracks. even though it’s rowan, he’s still someone from her past; someone she can’t associate with or it’ll blow her cover. when he looks up and she locks eyes with him, it doesn’t matter anymore. she’s been caught.
HE WASN'T SURE IF THERE'S anything that could save today from being the worst day he's encountered this year. since he came in early in the morning, he's been counting down the hours until he'd be able to go home. even now as he leaves the building for his lunch break, he hopes he could just ... not. he's usually not the type to allow his emotions to get in the way of work, but he didn't want to see his father for awhile at the moment. as he waits for an employee to fetch his car for him from the parking garage, he brings out his phone to send a message to his old man. he looks up for a moment to think, but instead his eyes meet a familiar pair, and his previous annoyance is out the window.
HE STANDS UP STRAIGHTER AT the sight of her staring back at him, his mouth slightly agape as if in a trance. the last update he had heard about her was from her father, telling him she was missing yet requesting that he not interfere. there was no word that she had been found, and he hasn't been able to actually contact her father. "wait !" pulling up his mask from his chin, he jogs up to her so he doesn't lose her in the crowd. now that he's actually face to face with her after all this time, he's speechless, yet his train of thought is running with so many questions. "do you ... are you busy right now?"

there was something amazing about waking up next to a warm body in the morning. jiahao wasn’t going to deny this pleasure at all, especially when it has become something familiar . this wasn’t the first time he found himself at rowan’s house in the morning.
and it won’t be the last.
he stirred over as slowly begun to wake up and looked at rowan still asleep with a soft smile on his face. hoping he wouldn’t wake up he kisses the crown of rowans head softly.
HE’S ALWAYS BEEN A MORNING person, but he never minded sleeping in when he knew he wasn’t waking up alone. lately the chairman has been finding more and more nights to ignore his inner alarm, knowing very well that he would rather in between the covers where he’s warm and holding on to someone. especially if it was jiahao. and just to think—just a couple months ago he wouldn’t let anyone get him in bed like this—and yet here they were ... with the red lions leader feeling sore as fuck.
ROWAN KEPT HIS EYES CLOSED despite being very awake at the moment, unsure if the moment they both wake up they would have to get out since they both may have duties elsewhere. his eyes flutter open as he feels the small kiss, a small smile on his face as he moves away to get a good look at him ; even in the morning, with his hair a mess ( a brief reminder of last night ), the other still looked good. “good morning ... have you been awake long?”

━☆゚.*・。゚ minhyuk picked his phone up examining it for any marks or scratches when he was sure he hadn’t he looked up and looked at the woman as she mumbled and he almost, A L M O S T scoffed at her words. puffing his cheeks out to stop that scoff from escaping, he seemed to have annoyed her enough so he shook his head. “ sorry. “ he muttered again. “ i’ll try to keep that in mind next time. wouldn’t want to get stabbed. “ his tone was dry but he meant what he was saying. despite being and doing the job he did, minhyuk could go without being stabbed.
SHE WATCHES ATTENTIVELY AS HE goes to pick up his phone, her face blank despite the possibility of it being broken. it wasn’t her fault. she glanced down at her own phone—which still had no message from this older man—and sighed ; she should’ve been watching as well. puffing her cheeks, she shakes her head as she puts her phone away into her back pocket. “right. i’m sorry, too.” she mumbles, unsure of what to do now ; it was clear that the man wasn’t going to message her back any time soon, and she didn’t want to seem too needy about it despite the time frame closing in. “and sorry about the warning ... you know, females always gotta’ have some sort of self defense mechanism, right?”

ミ☆ MILO HAD NEVER been a reactive person to begin with. needless to say, his reflexes were not up to par in protecting himself. one moment he was standing and the next he found his back to the pavement, above him an - ‘ angel? ’ having the wind knocked out of him made speaking difficult. sucking in the cold night air, milo gathered the breathe to speak again. ‘ are you some sort of angel. holy shit. ’ and here he’d thought some creepy old man had been following him, or maybe a demon… or like a clown. he definitely was not expecting to find himself face to face with a total ten.
he became aware of the gun perhaps a second too late, though it seemed she’d already decided to spare his life. ‘ maybe you did kill me, because i feel like i just died and went to heaven. ’ he couldn’t even spare an ounce of seriousness for the situation. then again, how could he? how would any man react if they just got tackled by a total hottie? honestly, he would die happy in that moment, if she killed him. though he’d much rather take his chances in life. ‘ hey, it’s okay sweetheart. no need to feel bad about almost murdering an innocent, upright citizen. i’ll let you make it up to me. ’
THE MORE HE ACTUALLY SPOKE, the more she wishes he was the real target. she’s heard all sorts of pick-up lines containing her name, but knowing he probably doesn’t remember her name is really angel made it all more ... insufferable. she can’t even blame him for not remembering who she is ; they did two completely different jobs and their paths never required them to meet. she puffs her cheeks in annoyance, eyes hard as she looks down at him. “that’s enough—stop saying my name. you make it sound irritating.” okay, that was a bit of a stretch, but she hoped it’d get him to stop regardless.
GLANCING DOWN AT THE GUN still in her hand, she ponders whether or not to still do it ; if she did do it, there was no way for anyone in the red lions who would know it’s her. sure, it’d feel like betrayal, but they were also in the middle of a war. on the other hand, if she let him live, at least she knew he wouldn’t say a word to authorities like a regular citizen might have. “don’t call me sweetheart.” she starts, crossing her arms as she frowns at his words—she had absolutely no intentions of ‘ making it up to him ’ ... wasn’t sparing his life enough pay back? “not that i would do anything you suggest, but what exactly do you have in mind?”

ミ☆ IT WAS LATE, not the acceptable kind of late like midnight, one, or two in the am. the bars had long closed, the streets clear - it was absolutely silent. it was a night he found himself sober, oddly enough, and a night he found himself alone. the thought of returning to his monstrosity of an apartment left an unpleasant taste in his mouth and having found himself done with all his tasks for the early, early morning he’d decided a walk to be the best course of action. except he couldn’t put himself at ease. every corner he rounded, every step he took he felt as if someone was watching. someone in the shadows, just five steps behind or lurking in the alley. yet, every time he paused to look he saw nothing. paranoia was not a familiar feeling for milo, it made his skin crawl.
he decidedly stopped. spinning on his heel as he did a wide sweep of his surroundings. still nothing. or did his eyes betray him? ‘ hey asshat, i know you’re there. mind telling me what the fuck you want? ’ @philcphobic
IT HAPPENED ALL TOO FAST. just a one minute ago he was walking, now he was on the ground with her on top of him as she holds a gun between his eyes. she hated spontaneous jobs, and she hated the urgency surrounding them. they could get messy really quick, and the outcome was always unpredictable. who knows—maybe it'd be him who walks out of the alley instead of her. given nothing but a name, face, and location by her client, she had been following him in the shadows waiting for the right moment to strike ... but something felt off the entire time she tailed him. however, it didn't matter now, because she had him exactly where she needed him.
MOST OF HER TARGETS WERE always bigger or taller than her, so she always needed to weigh them down somehow before she takes their life from right in front of their eyes. "any last words?" she finally looks down at him, scanning his face before her determined gaze falls: this wasn't her target. he doesn't even come close to the image she was given. "wha— what the fuck?" she paused, her arm faltering from the realization. "i— i almost killed you."
