PHOTO AGGREGATION NOW AVAILABLE FOR IPHONE
The new version of Photopod, the first iPhone app which aggregates all photos shared on six most popular photo sharing services, has been released today on Apple App Store, bringing speed improvements, Tumblr support and bug fixes.
This app, produced by Dear Future Astronaut AB, enables users to aggregate all their photos from Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, Picasa, Tumblr, Dropbox and the iPhone’s Device photos into a unique double-accordion interface. Users can download and share multiple photos to multiple photo-sharing services, which enables easy transfers from one service to another and backup of all photos. Unlike other services which offer photo aggregation, there is no need for the user to open any new accounts.
Furthermore, apart from being able to browse and view aggregated photos, the app’s search function enables users to quickly find the photo they are looking for, no matter where it is shared as well as to edit its basic properties such as title and description. Cropping and rotating photos is done in resolution adapted to iPhone screen and all transformations are later applied on full resolution photos before uploading them to the target service.

Photopod seems like quite an interesting app, targeted at people who want one app to organize, edit, and share images on their iPhones and iPods. I’m guessing that’ll be an attractive proposition to lots of people, especially those who view their iPhone, say, or their iPod touch, as something close to the computer they use the most.

Photopod Aggregates Your Photos From the Cloud: Flickr, Facebook, Dropbox, Twitter
It’s been rumored that with the next versions of iOS, and most notably the MobileMe service, Apple will heavily rely on the cloud to allow users to store media like photos, music and videos online and stream them at any time on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. A move to cloud-based storage would allow the company to produce cheaper devices with less internal storage, and let users access personal content anywhere as long as an Internet connection is available at the same time.
Photopod, an iPhone app available in the App Store and developed by Dear Future Astronaut, wants to become the ultimate photo aggregator and manager by providing a unified interface to browse pictures stored on a variety of online services. Think of it as a way to access content anywhere (and download it) using an application that does everything automatically through a tabbed “accordion” UI that brings Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Dropbox, Picasa and your Camera Roll all together.
Once authorized with the aforementioned services in the Settings (note that Twitter will only fetch images shared through TwitPic on your account), the main screen of the app will display a series of vertical tabs you can expand to reveal their contents — namely photos. As you open a tab, a list of thumbnail previews slides down allowing you to see all the photos you’ve stored locally or online. Tapping on the share button in the upper right corner will let you select multiple photos at once to upload them to a specific service. It’s very cool as it also lets you upload pictures from one service to another, or from your device to the cloud. You can also download photos to view them offline, or enter a basic editing mode that enables you to rotate and crop pictures. Everything is kept simple and accessible. Flickr, Facebook and Picasa even get menus for sets and menus you’ve organized your photos with.
I like Photopod because it brings the most popular photo sharing services together into a beautiful package that’s easy to use, fast, reliable and intuitive. The app is available here at $1.99, don’t miss it.

Photopod: Manage your photos across the Web right from your iPhone
When it comes to photos on the iPhone, Apple likes to keep you locked inside its good-looking, but quite restricted gallery. Photopod is a great little app that makes managing, uploading, downloading, editing and sharing images easy, whether they’re stored on your iPhone or on a number of Web services.
The app, from Sweden’s Dear Future Astronaut, hooks into Flickr, Picasa, Facebook, TwitPic and Dropbox. Once you’ve added your accounts from any of these services, Photopod allows you to browse photos stored across them all. They can then be cropped, rotated and renamed if you choose, before being downloaded to your iPhone or transferred to one of the other services.
So, let’s say you have photos stored in your Dropbox account and you want to move them to Flickr. With Photopod you can get the job done quickly by copying them to your iPhone, editing and naming them before pushing them off to Flickr, all while you wait for the bus home.
As useful as it is, Photopod can only deal with one image at a time right now. Batch uploading, downloading and editing would be a welcome addition, as would support for Apple’s MobileMe. That said, it’s an easy-to-use app that gets the job done quickly. if you’re the kind of person who has photos scattered across the Web and wants to get them in order, Photopod is well worth investing £1.19 (or local equivalent) in.
