Same day I finished the last guy, I just went and finished this one too. I’m eager to get to my next project, so that definitely contributed. Not that I didn’t enjoy painting this squad, I’m just feeling the itch to paint some song of ice and fire minis again

Drug my feet on getting this guy done, the sword added a bit of extra time I should have expected. Regardless he looks sick and I’m now itching to get the unit done

I cranked this dude out from primed to done in one sitting. It’s been so long sense I’ve done that and that felt good! So I decided to just do this whole squad one at a time as a treat

Got a bit of a backlog to post again! Painting this was super fun and a much needed change of pace from Mephiston. Went from primed to done in just a few sittings. Shatterpoint minis are a delight to paint, but a waking hell to assemble. This wraps up my second squad so I’m now itching to get a game in. I’ll have to get the whole squad out for pictures

And there we are! This miniature is done. And I’m so proud of my work here. I do feel like a stumbled a bit at the end. Im happy with the black and the sword, but I could have spent more time on those elements to punch them up. I just hit the point where I did want to call this project done.
Despite those two flawed elements, I couldn’t be more proud of what I’ve accomplished here. I pushed myself, tried things I hadn’t done before, and about 12 plus hours later I have the best model I’ve ever painted. And likely my best model of the year. I may even see if I can find a local painting competition and enter this.
This was such a fun project, and now I’m excited to move on to the next one

Mostly done black highlights! I am really not all that good at painting black. Which isn’t a surprise, I really haven’t done it all that much.
The highlight layers here are just a bit chunky and weren’t blended that well. I could go back and rework the black, but I’m at the point where I’m ready to put a bow on this project, so I think I’m going to make a really thin black glaze out of a black wash and blend the highlights in that way.

I love doing volumetric highlights so much. I’m also, really damn good at them.
Each step I complete just brings the model more and more together and is really boosting my excitement. I can’t wait to see this whole project done

Playing with different times and lighting for these pictures, so sorry for the all over the place quality.
The gold is now highlighted, the various emblems are done, and the lower cape/dress part is base coated. This model is starting to absolutely fuckin pop even from across the room.
I think I’m about six or seven hours in at this point, maybe halfway done?

I’ve been fighting my phone camera for some of these pictures, it’s really not doing my work justice here I don’t think. But regardless, the red armor is done, and the gold trim is base coated!
Making some good progress and I’m absolutely loving how this is coming out so far

My latest project! I’ve had this model sitting for about a year, and I’ve decided that I want to sit down and put the effort this model deserves in. I’m going to really be pushing myself on this project and seeing how far I can stretch my skills

The whole mob!
Some final thoughts about this squad before moving on to something entirely different.
Black armor is fucking hard, and needed a lot of crisp edge highlights which I am not particularly good at! All these years of doing almost all volumetric highlights have left that particular skill underdeveloped. Other thought I had, was I should have done my weathering with my weathering pigments, not the oils. I’m not sure why I didn’t figure that out during the painting process, but I’ll apply that to the next units. In the end, I think this is a solid start to this faction, and possibly the most labor intensive unit I have as they are the most heavily armored unit.
Next post will be my black armor process, which is going to be a pretty long post so I’ll get to work on it a bit later. Then off to a very different project I’m pumped about

And finally the champion! One of my better done skin tones I think. I’m a big fan

Orc two! I’m really happy with the way the shield looks on this one, both the design and how I painted it
