Random linguistic worldbuilding: A language with six sets of pronouns, which are set by one's current state of existence. There's a separate pronoun for people who are alive, people who are dead, and potential future people who are yet to be born, and the ambiguous ones of "may or may not be alive or aleady dead", "may or may not have even been born yet", and the ultimate general/ambiguous all-covering one that covers all ambiguous states.

The culture has a specific defined term for that tragic span of time when a widow keeps accidentally referring to their spouse with living pronouns. New parents-to-be dropping the happy surprise news of a pregnancy by referring to their future child with the "is yet to be born" pronoun instead of a more ambiguous one and waiting for the "wait what did you just say?" reactions.

Someone jokingly referring to themselves with the dead person pronouns just to highlight how horrible their current hangover is. A notorious aspiring ladies' man who keeps trying to pursue women in their 20s despite of approaching middle age fails to notice the insult when someone asks him when he's planning to get married, and uses the pronoun that implies that his ideal future bride may not even be born yet.

A mother whose young adult child just moved away from home for the first time, who continues to dramatically refer to their child with "may or may not be already dead" until the aforementioned child replies to her on facebook like "ma stop telling people I'm dead" and having her respond with "well how could I possibly know that when you don't even write to us? >:,C"

This is probably a very controversial opinion, but Spock exploring a bunch of different relationships, even if they’re straight, during a phase of his life where it seems he’s actively in flux re: trying to figure himself out while on a ship with people that he’s comfortable with (and therefore maybe finds them safer to pursue) doesn’t impact his growth into who he becomes later on. It doesn’t impact his future relationship with Jim (both working and personal). If anything it sweetens it.

He’s trying to find a connection with someone who will accept him for exactly who he is, something no one in his life has been fully able to do so far. We’re getting to see that trial and error not working. As we already know it won’t. But it’s not a bad or mischaracterized thing to see imo. This is his past. To me it only heightens how incredible his relationship with Jim is! Because here comes someone who is extremely social and charming and very human, that never expects Spock to be anyone but himself and just! Imagine how much of a relief, of a balm that would be! Knowing how rocky it was for Spock to get there, knowing that he’d probably decided that it’s possible no one would ever know him or accept him, and now here’s someone who loves him as is! What a gut punch that would be! Your literal soulmate, your own personal light at the end of the tunnel. Him dating women before (especially when we know that he was betrothed to one canonically and that’s how Vulcans pair up their kids), doesn’t mean he won’t become who he does later. Like, that logic doesn’t even apply to real people in the real world, let alone a character with a life-defining relationship canonically in his future.

Truly, if anything, I see him explore and experiment and just cackle knowing what’s waiting for him. Like, don’t worry my precious, 6 foot plus baby boy, you’ve got a man in your future that is going to rock your world.

Just saying, if you think Hob would want to die because Dream is dead, you don't understand his character. He's the metaphor for humanity, he was the most basic human in given centuries. He was a peasant, like many more, he was a member of aristocracy, a beggar, a slave trader, a sailor, a scholar, a teacher. Like many before and after him. He's adapting to the new reality just like humanity, with humanity. Hob is just a man but this is what's the most unique about him. And he will eventually move on and accept Daniel as his friend because that's what he does, he moves on. Things had changed, Dream has changed but it's still him, that's still his friend just with a new face. Hob also had to change many times. He doesn't need to hold onto Dream's old face, it will take time for him to get used to it but, in the end, both Morpheus and Daniel have the same eyes.
