Simple lil sketch of Reo finding out that Genji is his father!

This took AGES to finish, but I am proud of it. 

THIS cutie is named Reoto Shimada. I suppose you can guess who his parent is? Hint: It’s Genji. 

So basically, I had this huge headcanon from Genji confirmed lore of being a playboy / partier when he was young. (tfw long text drabble ahead)

I can imagine younger Genji didn’t feel the need to wear a condom, and put the responsibility of preventing childbirth solely up to the woman - and always assumed everyone woman he slept with was on birth control. He tried to make sure of such.

However.. one woman ended up getting pregnant. She planned to abort, but was contacted by the Shimada empire and told to keep it. They told her that they would take the child after it’s birth, and she obliged in return for financial stability from the empire.

She never named her child. In fact, the elders of the Shimada used an old technique of allowing the baby to choose its name and career path through an object. He was eventually named “鈴音” (Reoto) for the temple bell he chimed.

His personality is quiet and dignified. He carries an air of responsibility. However, he is also blunt and reckless - often not caring about the consequences of his actions. If he wants to do something, he will. 

He is a wild child much like his father was. It wasn’t until the Shimada empire reared its ugly head in the criminal world that Genji even found out about Reo - and it was through a chance encounter where the two fought with their dragons. 

Only a main bloodline Shimada can control a dragon, so that gave Genji all the answers he needed to know; This was either his or Hanzo’s child. He brought Reo back with him to Overwatch, and through a blood test found out that he was his.

Hanzo was told of Reo’s existence before defecting, but he was told that he was the child of one of their distant cousins. He never knew Reo had the ability to control a dragon, either.

Also I headcanon that Reo is 14 in canon - so he was conceived when Genji was about 21.

SO I FINALLY GAVE KRAIN HIS CASUAL OUTFIT LIKE I WAS PROMISING MYSELF. Sad thing that it’s literally a carbon copy of his dad’s uniform. Gotta look presentable if you’re a royal adviser in training, right?

I would like everyone to meet Krain Kinovolia Wimbleton Smythe! 

Now, I know you all must be thinking - holy shit, what a name. Am I right? Well, considering he’s the son of Coran Hieronymus Wimbleton Smythe, it’s not so far-fetched. 

I created Krain with the intention to give Coran a backstory - one that he TRULY was deserving of. I felt as though they never gave Coran any character development or a backstory, and that truly upset me since he was one of my favorites and he had such a unique personality. 

So let’s start from the beginning (long read ahead):

Coran and a woman named Kinova (an OC) were happily in love. Coran is a full-blooded Altean, and Kinova was a Kelarian (a water-dwelling dragonic species I made for Voltron, reigning from the planet Kelara)

They spent several deca-phoebs together before Kinova became pregnant with their first and only child. They had been trying for about two deca-phoebs, but Kelarian fertility rates are extremely low, and the chance of still-birth or miscarriage runs around 80%. However, despite the odds against her, she was able to give birth to Krain and he was relatively healthy, despite being smaller than average for both a Kelarian AND an Altean infant. 

Kinova and her species had very weak immune systems, and the species was dying.  Eventually, this weak immune system of hers was compromised, and she died when Krain was 4 due to an Altean illness that she couldn’t be vaccinated for.

This tore Coran and Krain to shreds, obviously. Coran was a big traditionalist before he met Kinova; he strictly believed in only Altean marriages and partnerships. He did not like or find the idea of interracial marriage to be appealing - and this same sentiment ran true with a majority of older Alteans as well. However, most Alteans were very accepting of others for their interracial marriages, and supported each other 100% even if they didn’t personally agree with nontraditional values.

But Kinova changed Coran’s opinion on it - and slowly but surely, she changed him into a more accepting and lighthearted individual. She is the reason why Coran is the way he is - a bubbly “uncle” figure with dad jokes for days. Her personality imprinted on him and changed him forever.

If people want, I can add more backstory to Kinova and Coran, and more headcanons for them.. just send me an ask! I might even draw them out. But back on track w/ Krain!!

Krain got his education at a school called the Altean Palisade. It was an academy-esque setting where he was taught to serve the royal family, much like his father and family lineage has done for generations. Due to his father working with Alfor (and having to take care of Krain whilst on duty) Krain grew up relatively close to Princess Allura like siblings. The two of them would spend time braiding each other’s hair, playing hide and seek throughout the castle, and even training with one another to become stronger. 

It was Krain’s duty to follow in his father’s footsteps and become Allura’s adviser. He was happy to take on this position, and would of protected her with his life. Despite his position in society being one of high-standards, he was often bullied by other children for being a half-breed. 

Krain was scouted by Alfor around the age of 15 or 16 to be a substitute pilot for the Red Lion during the times where the universe needed Voltron. Alfor was very busy with interplanetary relations and forming treaties, along with diplomacy. It left little time for him to take care of his kingly duties and even less time to spend with Allura, so he temporarily passed the duties to Krain - whom accepted it tentatively. 

Krain was unsure whether or not he was fit for the role, but nonetheless did his duties to the best of his ability. He always took it seriously, and became an exceptional paladin. This is the reason why he has a dim, older version of the red paladin armor - he used an older model that wore down over time.

He was 22 (Earth-standard) years old during the destruction of Altea. Sadly, Krain lost his life along with King Alfor and the other paladins. He was ordered by King Alfor to go into stasis, but disobeyed to try and defend against Zarkon - Naturally, this tore Coran apart when he was awoken from his cryo-pod to find that his son wasn’t with them. 

It wasn’t until (S8 ending spoilers ahead, you’ve been warned) the restoration of Altea that Krain was revived. He was the only original paladin that was brought back - it was assumed that Allura did this to give Coran his only family back, knowing that he would miss her. 

The news of Allura’s death had shredded Krain to pieces, and it took a few weeks for him to cope with his grief at losing his childhood friend and sister figure. However, he was also happy to make up lost time with his father, to listen to the journey they took to save the universe, and bonding with the new paladins. 

He particularly took a huge liking to Shiro, and developed a benign crush on the man. This crushing went on for about a deca-phoeb until Shiro developed feelings for Krain. 

Keith and Lance noticed the two tip-toeing around their feelings for one another, and decided to slowly set the two up for more romantic encounters. With their help, the two eventually managed to confess to one another and started a slow-burn process of dating.
