Literally just saw an article about must-watch queer shows that mentioned Black Sails that said "the show doesn't present itself as a queer show at the start it's only as we delve into captain flint's memories that we find love" and DO NOT PISS ME OFF!! THE FIRST EPISODES literally deal with Max and Eleanor's crumbling relationship and their love and they have sex in the PILOT!! But I guess it doesn't count huh!?

the thing that I love about James Fucking Flint is that I believe him

he starts giving a speech about how we’re going to destroy the entire british empire and end colonialism once and for all and we’re going to start a new self-governing society outside of the constraints of imperialism and I believe him

I have several centuries of hindsight on my side, but I still listen to this man in 1715 saying he’s going to end the british empire and I think yes you will! 

and of course, Flint’s ability to rouse and rally people to his cause, to talk them around to his side, recurs over and over throughout. to a point that elevates him near godhood. but you never think, oh that’s not realistic. you never think, why are they listening to him. you never think, yeah okay but if they just acted rationally then—

because you. sitting on your couch. in the 21st century. even with the full knowledge of history and also the plot of black sails because you’ve seen it before. 

you hear flint start talking. and you believe him too. you believe he can do it. you believe he’s going to do it. this time. this time, surely he must.

black sails was actually so good for jackanne. they are not romantically in love, anne is not his wife, yet they are still a unit. they are two sides of the same coin and they love each other more than anyone else. black sails said hey we're going to show you so many types of love and you are going to eat it up

Just started reading Sherlock Holmes and all the adaptations are wrong. This man is a delight. He gets excited about hemoglobin and is ecstatic at the thought of Watson as a roommate. He purposefully forgets how the solar system works so he has more room in his brain for crime. He shows Watson the dirt stains on his trousers and he can tell what part of London they come from based on color and consistency. (As far as i can tell Watson didn't ask, Sherlock just gets back from walks and tells Watson about the stains unprompted.) The text specifically says "Holmes was certainly not a difficult man to live with." Why does every adaptation make him unpleasant and rude, he's literally just eccentric. He's such a goober, I love him.

You can acknowledge that something is good, great, a masterpiece even, and just straight-up not enjoy it.
