       To say she was STARTLED by the sudden hug would be quite the understatement – Lapis still wasn’t used to people suddenly initiating physical contact after being robbed of it for thousands of years. Once she processed that no harm was going to come to her, though, all tenseness melted away and she leaned on her father, wrapping her arms tightly around him. A small smile, the first since her adventure with Steven, appeared against her lips.

           “i’ve missed you.”

           That was an understatement yet again.

Tears started to well up in the ol’ gem’s eyes. He was just so... overwhelmed with emotions. Finally, finally, after thousands of years he could hold his little gem in his arms again. He could hold her and protect her and make sure she’s never alone again. Finally, he could be a good dad-gem and take care of her.

“ I’ve missed you too, kiddo... HA, I’m surprised you remember me after all these years! ”

Cue the dorky-dad smile.

        Hearing that from GARNET or PEARL or LAPIS would have been expected, and it might not have scared him, but… Tourmaline was always optimistic and rarely was this blunt with him about deadly situations. It must have been really,really bad if he was trying to warn him… but Steven was nothing if not determined and optimistic, and instead of backing down he straightened up and gave a firm nod.

         “I won’t! I know I can handle this, Tourmaline. I’m a CRYSTAL GEM.”

“ I  K N O W you can, Steven, I just... ”

The last promise Pink Tourmaline made to the late Rose Quartz was the promise to care for her Steven like she had to him. And Tourmaline vowed to stay TRUE to that promise. When he received word of tougher, crueler  Homeworld gems on their way to Earth, his immediate concern was Steven. True, the boy was one tough cookie, ( a quick wit and a mastery of his shield was nothing to snuff at ) but Homeworld was renowned for being MERCILESS and CRUEL. They wouldn’t hesitate to SHATTER and DESTROY anyone who got in their way.

And just the thought of any harm coming to the boy made him want to burst into tears.

“ I want you to be safe. You’re still half human, you know. ”

Pink was wandering around beach city enjoying a perfect sunny day when she bumped into Pink Tourmaline. “Oh! Im so sorry!!!” She said holding a hand out for the other to grab so she could help the other up. “I should of watched where i was going.”

Pike was a simple man with simple tastes. He took his coffee with simple cream and sugar. He only cared for plain, chocolate donuts. Frankly, he didn’t care much for the finer things in life. 

Unless, of course, it was for his adopted daughter, Robin “Lapis” Lazuli, then he went all out.

“ SO, I saw this blue pendant while I was out doing errands, you know, that little boutique downtown? And I saw it in the window and said to myself, ‘ you know who’d like that, Lapis would like that. ‘ So, ta-da! In honor of getting an A on that science test. ”

Honestly, it was the little things that got Mr. Torian the most excited.

          Harley’s APPEARANCE wasn’t really something that people gawked at in Gotham, or even in Brooklyn. She supposed it was nothing particularly special in such big cities, where crime and super-villainy were commonplace… but now she was in small-town Delmarva, some little community called Beach City. A white-as-a-sheet woman with the fashion sense of a clown’s emo daughter was probably uncommon. … Didn’t make it any less rude.

The LAST thing Tourmaline ever wanted to do was OFFEND anyone.

But, he couldn’t help his eyes from locking onto the newcomer. He had never seen the likes of someone like HER before. The woman’s sense of style was certainly UNIQUE! Maybe she was a cosplayer...? Or, she just liked expressing herself! He had to admire that level of dedication and courage. 

He was so lost in his thoughts that he didn’t immediately react when she spoke to him. Her accent was so exotic and fun!

             “ Oh! I-I’m sorry, ma’am, I-I didn’t mean to stare. ”                 He lowered his head, resembling a puppy when scolded.
